COLLINGWOOD's Dayne Beams has been declared fit and ready to take on West Coast in Saturday's elimination final.

Beams had been under a cloud for much of the week leading up to the game with a corked calf and missed a training session early in the week.

Dale Thomas was another player with supposed fitness queries but Collingwood assistant coach Ben Hart said the pair would take their place against the Eagles.

"Both those guys are fit and ready to go," Hart said.

"It's more precautionary and at this time of the year you're not going to get any fitter from doing a session - it's more about getting them through and making sure they're right to go for the game."

Great news!

yes it is great news indeed but I hope they are "fully fit" not just fit. By that I mean able to run flat out and attack the contest. Something we haven't seen from Daisy since the first quarter of the Swans match a month ago.

Our side would improve immeasurably if Daisy can get his mojo back and play the manic attack on the footy with a defensive mindset style we all became accustomed to in 2010/2011.

He is such a vital player to our team, I just hope so much for Daisy to fire tomorrow night.

I doubt either of them would be playing if it was Round 10.

Injuries can be played through much easier during finals. Most players need to be legless, or have a spike hanging out of their head to be decalred 'unfit'.

Look at Reid and Jolly. Both playing in a Grand Final despite basically being unable to walk. I doubt they'll show us the photos of them both that most likely show them on crutches after the game.

I'd like to think that our club would not do that if it was 100% sure that it would be to the detriment of a player's longevity.

My theory on it is that a player usually hides the severity of his injuries. That is why Presti is so respected as a selfless individual.

I agree Jath, im sure players 'hide' or talk down injuries just to get out there. I dont think it is done with any sinister intent, it's just the desperate desire to play. They feel they are helping the team and that the injury wont affect them , that they can get through it.

Thinking on Ed's comment, from 100 meters away it was so obvious Jolly and Reid were in bad shape very early in the game last year. Young Beams and Presti putting there hands up is the other side of the argument.
Let's keep our fingers crossed the correct call have been made for tomorrow.

I wasn't suggesting the club was pushing them out onto the field against their will.

Although I can now see how my post may have insinuated as much.

I'm sure it's the players who hide the extent of the injury. Hence why I said it's much easier to play though injuries for a final.

Last time we played players that weren't close to 100% in a final. Tom Hawkins cost us a flag.

I doubt Daisy's ankle is restircting him, he still looks to be running well. The game immediately after he was on fire but got the cork. So I think he's rocking alright fitness wise.
