So what do you all think about the pies youngsters?? (25 & under)

Fraser- Ready to become an A grader
Didak- Already is an A grader
Thomas- Will be an A Grader
H Shaw- Will be an A grader
Pendelbury- Will be an A grader
Cloke- Will be an A grader
Egan- Dont think will ever be an A grader but has potential to be ok!
Reid- Hard to say, but early signs are very good:thumbsu:
Brown- looks promising, but too early to tell
MAxwell- I believe he is a very good player & can easliy be a 200 player
IIles- Solid, but no gun. In the lockyer mould
Swan- Never will be an A grader, but will be a very good player
Johnson- A grader already!
Davis- telling year, doesnt perform he is out I think
Anthony- hasnt played yet, but comes with big wraps
Obrien- hmm not sure but good for depth
Martin Clake- exciting will need time though
cox- not good enough
cook- not good enough
toovey- not good enough
davies- delist him please
****- early signs are very exciting
dawes- wait til next year, but has good wraps
goldsack- jury is out, hasnt played yet
stanley- not good enough
richards- not good enough
Bryan- might be servicable
Lonie- trade him please, too soft!!!

I have put in bold players that will play for at least another 8 years! I think our future is Great!!! :thumbsu:

I rekon Martin Clark will play at least 400 going by what Vinnie says. lol jk I say he will be a great player for us in the future years and will player 200+ games for us

Davis- telling year, doesnt perform he is out I think
Obrien- hmm not sure but good for depth
cox- not good enough
richards- not good enough
Lonie- trade him please, too soft!!!
:thumbsu:

I disagree with all of these points.
Davis was great last year. If he can do that every year I feel that his position is secure.
O'Brien should be worth more than depth. I see him as a future FB.
Cox has played exceptionally well for Willi. A fair chance to secure a spot in the side this year or next.
Richards is good enough, it's just a matter of whether he can reclaim his form of two years ago by the years end. Otherwise yeah he is probably gone.
Lonie. Trade him and we will regret it, he has a lot of improving to do yet.

Keep thinking of Lockyer as 23, not 27 because of AFL Live 2004.

2nd Year Players

Iles - looks OK, I personally am not a big fan.
Nicholls - Going OK, but I doubt he will get a game
Stanley - Hasn't shown much for me, will be chopped at the end of the year.
Anthony - Very impressive, will nudge Wakelin out of spots when he gets fit again.
Cook - I like the kid, he has guts and determination and will improve heaps.
Pendlebury - STAR MIDFIELDER, Plays like Dally.
Thomas - Does those courageous acts that lift a team.
Cox - Only seen the kid once, at Subiaco Oval last year in the NAB cub game vs Fremantle. Very impressive game.
Toovey - Will continue to improve.

I think our youngsters are pretty strong.

CBF doing any more reports though;)

Great post buddy, i think you were very honest and fair to all. Leon has a crunch year due to his inconsistency, yeah some good games but too many missing ones, and you are right with lonie, no premierships with footsteps and not many cheap kicks for him in GF's. Well done

On the Lonie issue, I know I do this every-year, but it is simple garbage what some people think his future holds.

Lonie is a good footballer, and has done nothing too wrong to deserve an axing or close to one. He has been servicable over his first 6 seasons, and despite playing more games than we expected, and being a little lucky at the selection table sometimes, he can be valuable on the field.

He gets called soft, fair enough, but not only are we living in the modern age football, people forget his role in the side. His best value for the side is being a receiver, where his assets are most damaging. That is, i) his left boot, and ii) his dash with the ball. If he is going to play the role of the aggressor, ie. Maxwell, his main factors of being in the side are ignored.

Then, on top of that, Ryan Lonie has a good tackling record. Now, we see at games sometimes that he should lay a tackle but doesn't, but that comes back to the above paragraph. This is just a back up point to show you he does do it. In 2003, he was 8th at the club in tackles, and in 2004, he was 6th at the club...the former was a year in which the Pies played in a Grand Final. And then on recent form, in 2006, Ryan Lonie was leading the club in tackles during the successful first half of the season, where he would finish 4th in the club in the defining statistic.

Then Barwick mentioned he would be no good in a Grand Final. Ryan Lonie has already played in two grand finals. In 2002, as a 19 year old, he had 21 touches and 3 tackles, a reasonable game, to add to a very good finals series, in which he was named, Man of the Finals, if I am not mistaken (I am not 100% sure on that). In 2003, he had a poor game, however he had as many tackles as disposals, so the pressure was there at least, despite having a very poor finals series. He was in our best in our Elimination Final loss to the Doggies last year also, so he has had some success and put good pressure on in finals footy, which sort of makes the argument un-called for.

Just a couple of points

1) Guy Richards is a hack, he is soft and lacks agression. Bryan gives his all and should play before Guy. I say we delist him at the end of the season!!!
2) We cant afford to chop Lonie. He is a gun when running with the footy and he is a sizeable and accurate kick. I think he seems to struggle when looking after a gun opposition forward. Is it worth throwing him on the Forward Flank and see if he can snag a few from outside 50??
3) Is anthony as good as everyone says he is???? i havnt seen him play
4) Pendlebury will win a brownlow, he is gunna be an absolute STAR! as will daisy.
5) Maxwell is very underated i believe. He will be an All Aust one day. Very brave and tough and has fantastic hands overhead. GUN!!!!

I think with regards to Lonie. You'll find that if Malthouse plays him in the right position, primarily on the wing and in an attacking role,Lonie would be a very good player.'Ball is bounced someone out of the centre to lonie ,lonie either kicks the goal,or boots it deep into the forward line to a leading forward,it's all over.'
Malthouse loves p[laying him at half back then he get's taken out of the game .Put him on the wing or in attck and leave him there maltouse, then we'll see some great results from him.

Just a couple of points

Good points; especially the one I've singled out. Anthony is not a body on body player. The best outcome is that he can become a player in the same mould as Shane Morwood. Shane was one of the best defenders of his era. So I'm being very optimistic here.

So typical of you CT, not once have you given the kid any praise. Let me ask you a question, how many times, if at all, did you go to a Williamstown game last season and see John play? It amazes me how someone like you can be so negative yet Mick Malthouse stated in the Black & White Magazine that John was the most improved player on the list. I hope one day you eat humble pie and offer me an oplology for the constant bagging you have given my son.

i don't think they will chop a bloke they picked up at 21 in the draft after 2 seasons. stanley will be given every chance to prove he can play, dispite what some of the more learned members think

I watched them play regularly, there is your answer.

I'm not being negative - I'm posting an opinion from what I've seen of him. Don't get me wrong, I hope he proves me wrong, but I won't make any rash predictions at the moment since he hasn't played a senior game yet.

Tell John he still has my full support, just in case he feels worried.

Swan not going to be an A grader? Get your hand off it, please.

I dont know what your definition of an A grader is, but its someone like Bucks, Judd, Hird etc,, someone that can dominate a game week in week out.

Swan is a Very good footballer & I like him, but he will never be an A grader.

Well, you are the only one I have heard bag him. As I have said previously, I don't want to appear to be an over-protective father, but not once have you said a positive thing in his favour and to be blunt, I get sick of reading your crap, not just about John but others as well, you rave on as if you are the world's greatest expert on football. Just let these kids develop and prove themselves on the field without dragging them down before they have a chance to prove themselves. John appreciates all the support he gets, but I can assure you he isn't worried about what you think.

Fair enough, JAJH 1, CT 0

hey guys... i have a question for all... and i do remember this quite clearly..
you know how the herald sin releases top 10 list compiled by afl footballers every year? E.g most liked, most hated etc? Does anyone remember the most feared players section circa ( not sure exact year ) 2002-04?

i clearly remember lonie being in the top 7.. i wish i could locate it for u but i wouldnt know where to start...

just thought thta this info would help... A soft player voted by his peers to be most feared.
BTW im not making this up... it is 100% true.

Yep. It was a heap of the Lions players that had a dig at Lonie.

He may not be the hardest player going around but as LF50 said, he is a gun when running with the footy or using his racking left foot. Like to see us play him more in that type of role. Perhaps filling in Dids role while he is out(I'm not saying he plays like or is as good as Dids). Midfield to HFF. Very attacking role.

If he was put up for trade bait I bet we would receive a good deal from a few teams nearing 12 O'Clock on the premiership clock.

Sour grapes.

Whom are the 'others' you are referring to?

Am I the world's gretest football expert? No, not in a million years, but I know when I've spotted genuine talent, i.e. Ben Reid.

I don't want to sound cruel, but you come across like an over-protective father. I'm happy for you to post as long as you respect other people's opinions, including mine if possible.

I'm not sure whether it is more tragic or hilarious.
