Cant get enough of these guys.
Hoping to hell they come out to Australia for The Wall tour!
Being 21 none of my mates are really into them. They all like the new shit music that comes out these days, so it's hard to get anybody to discuss them with.
What are a few of your favourite songs by them?
Their best album in your opinion?

Sorrow and Time are probably two i could never get sick of listening to.
Childhoods End is another for some reason i really get moved by.
Echoes (song) is brilliant.

Cheers guys. :)

It's not Pink Floyd doing the Wall tour, just Roger Waters. He's not scheduled to come out here either.

I doubt Pink Floyd will ever play as Pink Floyd again, not after Richard Wright died.

pretty funny that such a fan didnt realise that it's not pink floyd who were touring.

I like the 70's stuff but prefer the Barrett era psychedelia. Too bad the LSD sent him nuts.

Some great stories of recording sessions with Barrett though.

Meddle, D.S.O.T.M. and Ummagumma are still my favourites.

Saw the boys at Rod Laver in '94.
Brilliant concert and they left highlight for last, being "Run"
May not grab you on disc, but powered like an animal at the concert. Brilliant stuff.

The version of 'Run' on the P.U.L.S.E album is pretty sweet. Would have loved to have seen them.
I've always said to my parents why couldn't you have had me 10-15 years earlier? :p

Too young maybe?

Pink Floyd were silent giants in the music world and the buzz of a new album had the music world excited.
I just couldn't get into Water's later stuff, after Animals quite as much.
68 - 72 was the golden era for Floyd for me.

Yeah when you hear people talking about the big name bands very rarely do PF get a mention.
Haha despite that, it's pretty disappointing i have and probably never will get to see the bands and artists that i like perform live. ('Older' stuff as you may guess)
Those earlier albums were a bit hit and miss for my liking...but they still had some good songs. And some strange ones. Guess ya had to be there.

Definitely more a fan of the Barrett-era stuff, but everything with Waters is fantastic. 'Momentary Lapse Of Reason', 'The Division Bell', and even 'The Final Cut' were pretty pedestrian IMHO.

Favourite songs:

Barrett-era
'Astronomy Domine'
'The Nile Song'
'See Emily Play'
'Corporal Clegg'

Later
'One Of These Days'
'Careful With That Axe, Eugene'
'Brain Damage'
'Wish You Were Here'
'Sheep'
'Run Like Hell'
'In The Flesh'
'Young Lust'
'Comfortably Numb'
'Mother'
'Hey You'

Everyone should check out the two Syd Barrett solo albums too 'The Madcap Laughs' and 'Barrett'. Great stuff. There is also an outtakes album called 'Opel'.

One of these days wasn't in the Barrett era, I feel.

Bike will take you just about as "Barrett" as anything else possible.
One strange little track. Watch out for that acid, kids.

Ha! I was editing it out as you were posting this, I remembered that it was from 'Meddle' (1971).

Substitute 'Bike' for 'Corporal Clegg' in my list too, thats a much better song. I think Barrett was still in the band when 'A Sauceful Of Secrets' came out but he was virtually incoherent

IIRC there is one Barrett song on ASOS.

Bike is pure psychedelic insanity:thumbsu:

Saw Roger Waters perform Dark Side of the Moon a few years ago, once on a pile of psychedelic drugs, the other night dead sober, and both times were ****ing amazing. Roger Waters was the visionary behind The Wall, so if it's him performing it, it's going to be as good as it can be.

had a nice hungover pink floyd session this morning.

time is possibly the most epic song to have ever been recorded, although the bells at the start aren't nice with a headache.

definate top ten band for me.

mother is massively underrated as a tune too.

IIRC they were the first band to perform at Rod Laver Arena in March 1988 and what a gig it was for 'Momentary Lapse of Reason'.

Saw the boys at Rod Laver in '94.

Don't remember them coming for that year but I may be corrected...was it the Division Bell album. I thought they hadnt been back to OZ.

Anyway, to pick songs apart from albums is criminal...you can ONLY listen to Floyd in the context of the album.

The Wall stands out & the movie is just as bleak with Sir Bob. Freaked me out so much as a teenager that in the end, 22 years on, I barely can listen to it now in its entirety...probably the best album ever IMO, but one that is just so bloody depressing...!

Pink Floyd,Genesis,Led Zep,Jethro Tull-the big 4.

No bands have got close to the class of these 4.

My Big 5 are Tull, Camel, Gentle Giant, Caravan and Genesis these days :D
I can't fit Floyd or Zeps into my top 10 hehe. Gotta make room for Yes, Graaf, Zappa, Rush and Magma lol

Zep were doing great rock music in the 60s.

They will always be top 4.

Bonham had the greatest feel and drum sound.

Noone can match him even today.

Zep 1 is cool for it's time. Love Good times Bad times. I always feel Zep 2 is outdated though. But i do love Ramble on. I struggle with Whole lotta love and Heartbreaker though. Not really into the Janis Joplin vocal/Angus Young guitar sound hehe. Zeps were cool though. Mainly Zep 3 and Houses of Holy. I feel fresher listening to some Sabbath or Purple usually though except for Smoke on the water, Sabbath bloody sabbath or Black night. Yawn :D
