With the scratching of Plat Scaissors, this now makes it a two horse race, with Helenus and Davidoff to fight it out.

I think the Oliver/Moroney combination might do it. It's Davidoff for mmine.

Can't fault the form of HELENUS.

I give MASKERADO some chance in this. HYDROMETER looks the best of the others in a typically lacklustre Victoria Derby.

There's no doubt that the REAL Derby is the one they run at Randwick in the autumn. Racing three-year-olds over a mile and a half at this stage of the season is ludicrous.

But anyway ... just for the sake of a pick:

1st. HELENUS
2nd. MASKERADO
3rd. HYDROMETER

I would suggest that this year's star 3-year-old probably hasn't raced yet.

Hope so - it is a very, very, very gutys effort for damien to decide to ride in the vic derby / melboune cup
