You dont have to be a genius to see our forward line is a disgrace and has no structure.
No harm can be done by playing Jurrah.
The guy is in solid form for Casey and itll be great for him to get some games under his belt.
Sylvia, Petterd, Miller and Bate are simply not getting it done.

Put the kid in this week Bailey and lets see what hes capable of.

On a good note. we could have a solid team in this week with the possible returns of Robbo, Wheatley, Whelan and Wona.

Go Dees

Sounds good in theory but if he isn't developed enough then you can't use our situation as a reason to rush him. Also, bringing Jurrah into the side will not automatically give us structure, another option perhaps, but structure takes a while to get in place.

in defence of Bate. he kicked 2.2, 3 inside 50's and 3 goal assists

Yep. I thought he worked really hard and I was pretty satisfied with his game.

Sylvia, on the other hand.. :thumbsd:

i agree with the commentators yesterday that all our midfielders were getting kicks in the back half and the problem we had was kicking to the half forwards with miller and bate playing pretty deep from what i saw, we really need a strong marking centre half forward. If Jurrah and Robo did get a game soon they could play deep and Miller could play up more and i think that would be better structure wise. I cant wait to see Jurrah, but play him when he is ready.

The problem with the forward structure is no run forward out of the midfield. We get the odd break away with Morton, Bruce etc, and Jones is running the footy straight and fast but its not enough. We already are generally dropping a man back (Rivers) and then we are playing Davey as a quaterback, it leaves no run through the middle, or no one at home up forward. The Forward line doesn't connect to the backline, you need run and carry like Geelong, or switches and long kicks to midfielders like Hawthorn. Otherwise you can have Bate and Miller marking on the wing but that achieves nothing.

As for Jurrah there is no point rushing him, let him settle in to Melbourne and play some more good footy for Casey first. Robbo should return which might help. Also I think his correct height is about 188cm, but a Melbourne player told me the other day he can jump up to Spencers head of a couple of steps. His leap is quite amazing.

According to the AFL Prospectus, Liam Jurrah is 191cm and 81kg.

I'm interested to see how he'll go, as Indigenous talents are always intriguing, and because he was linked to Collingwood via their VFL side at one point. It'd be a great story if he can get a game so early on, considering the obstacles he's had to face in terms of adapting to a whole new environment (in 'the big city'), learning a new language and so on.

What new language would that be?
I used to live in Alice Springs and played footy against Liams father .
He speaks English as well as several native tongues.
Liam Jurrah is from Central Australia. Not darkest africa.
There was an article from Martin Flanagan earlier this year, talking about how Liam was learning English as part of an AFL program.

I'm sure he must speak a little bit but he's not fluent by any means.

Maybe its the reading and writing side of things they refer to?
That I can understand.:)

Saw Jurrah play on the weekend and really liked what I saw. A future champion I think.

14 rounds from now we will have Jurrah, Wona, Watts and Robbo up forward. Totally different and quite imposing.

In a perfect world.

Agree with before, Bate and Miller are CHF targets, Watts/Jurrah/Robbo are the forward line.

But thats not possible right now.

So we soldier on, rotate everyone through the forward line, keep our fingers and toes crossed, and watch through our fingers

Play him - we need forwards. Sick of getting the ball to the 50 and shitting it.

Hmmm, not sure about that, Casey put up one of the worst performances I have ever seen.

As for Jurrah he got a bake from Peter German at 1/4 time yesterday, being told if your not interested in playing we will sit you on the bench and get someone else. To his credit his efforts after that were better, took a good grab in the 3rd.

As others have mentioned, he's reportedly not fluent in English, as it's not his first language. I read the Flanagan article when it came out, so that's where I'm getting this information from.

I'd imagine it'd be hard fitting in for any young person at AFL level, let alone someone from a remote Indigenous community. Full credit to Liam Jurrah for making it this far. Hopefully he can do well at AFL level :thumbsu:

Later in the year when we have Robbo and Watts up forward we will be a better team! At the moment our forward line is made of half foward flankers and the only time we mark the ball iside 50 is from kicking the ball over the players head and running back with the flight to mark i.e. Neville Jetta in the first quarter.

English far from his first language and is from remote Central Australia which is an unexplainably notable difference in cultural/personal/social context.

Keep going Jungarrayi Jinta. All of Yuendumu proud :thumbsu::).

Wow, those articles were fantastic reads. I sincerely hope this kid makes it. I will watch his career with great interest. Good luck Liam.
