I was all for trading last year, but IMO, surely his year to date has shown that he is a vital cog in our team now?

It's have to be a bloody good offer t get me to the table
I would do it for a top 3 pick. Picks 4-7 id consider and weigh it up. Pick 8 onwards i wouldnt do it.

Instead of having Ryder, TBC, Hille, JoeD, Gumby (2013) if we lost TBC wed also lose Hille due to retirement, it would mean we have too find 2 more solid rucks. Probably one via trade and one via draft (mature age likely).

Just seeing which sides have too many rucks or a plethora. Probably.

Geelong (Simpson?)
GC (Gorringe?)

Isnt a lot on the free agency table either. Max Bailey although id say hed accept to stay at the hawks.

Id be happy to have a guy like Seaby as our backup mature aged rookie pick if worse goes to worse - i dont really know whats around the VFL/SANFL ect but im not a fan of Gabriel.

Yeah I'm not sure that I've been very clear on this one. I do not WANT to trade any of our rucks or KPPs. I do not think we have surplus in a numeric sense. I think most clubs will play 4 genuine KPPs, 2 rucks of which at least one can play forward and a few medium sized players.

Essendon could play 6 talls as well as Crameri and Pears as oversized flankers.

So if we were to do that than only 2 of Pears, Gumby, Hooker, TBell and Daniher (at this age) will miss out each week. This isn't extraordinary depth it is just that the boys who miss regularly will consider themselves too good to be considered depth.

The club could manage them all by rotating players and making sure they all get 10 games a year at least. However, assuming the team makes the finals this year with minimal injuries among the talls then the club will play their hand to the players and those left out will probably ask to be traded for more opportunities.

I do think the club could sell missing out to any players it would be Gumby and Pears because of injuries and Daniher because of age. All three could miss and be told that they are still top 25 players at the club and with Fletch nearly winding up there is every opportunity that they could all be best 22 players soon.

However, this would only work of Ryder played mainly up forward and as much as an over sized flanker as a KPP, alongside Crameri playing the same role. Pears to play small down back alongside Carlisle, Hooker and Hurley playing tall.

I'm just not sure we could pull it off though, as Ryder, Crameri, Daniher and Gumby would be just too tall unless Crameri all of a sudden discovered his endurance and repeat sprint endurance.

Of course the main reason Bellchambers is mentioned is that if he's to play he has to play primary ruck. Ryder has more strings to his bow that should make him a damaging forward. However, the coaches and match committee occasionally see that the team works better as Ryder number 1 ruck with some relief from a forward.

Gumby's rucking performance in VFL probably makes him number 1 candidate for that role, as well as Daniher though everyone thinks that would be a waste of Daniher.

So if Bellchambers and one or two of the talls are to be depth, wouldn't it be better if they were genuine depth players? Can we fit players of that quality as depth? We are probably better off trading the quality tall and depth small to get a quality small (that fills our line breaking mid or goal sneak needs) and a depth tall?

For example White from Carlton is a bit of a plodder, but he can come in and do a job (as he has against us a few times). Garlett is a damaging small forward who is probably going the best of the lot this year. Howlett is a very good 6th-7th mid and ..... actually Carlton have an excess in the ruck!

GWS is probably the best target. I can tell you an old cricket mate of mine (Carlton supporter) is Toby Green's nephew and he's a pretty keen bomber supporter!!

Bellchambers for Brandon Matera? Gold Coast! .... Also bomber supporter!!

Also Freo would probably give up their first round pick for Hooker. I get the feeling that Lyon would absolutely love Hooker. Big boy plenty of intercept marks.

Would anyone else do Bellchambers + Hooker for Freo 1st rounder + Matera

Actually that wont work because Gold Coast have a million rucks, three of great quality.

Jeebus help a brother out here peoples!!

Freo will go after Gumby

I'd target their first rounder, obviously i don't know how that will go down but that would be what i'd start at.

If not Tom Sheridan or Hayden Crozier would be on the radar, freo have way too many small forwards.

We have too much quality as the depth rather than the numeric sense with what fish said.

Freo are probably similar but with smalls.

They have some quality smalls missing out that are performing and coming along very nicely for their futrue side (Mellington, Michie, Crozier, Neale, Sheridan) are a select group missing out that are going to be quite good players in the future. Id be targetting them with Gumby.

Surely the dogs and fremantle and anyone else after a key forward would be all over Gumbleton.

I would love one of their small forwards. Neale is a little shit too

neale is more a mid though.

would kill for walters though

What type of player do you think we need/lack in our team? and who would be a realistic get to fill that role?
My opinion is we need a fast wingman who can run, carry and dispose well, someone like an Andrew Gaff or Lewis Jetta. I don't know who would be a realistic get though.

My reason for wanting a fast wingman is because I think we break down in the Half forward line too much and don't hit up targets in our forward 50 enough, a quick winger would break the lines and give the oppositions defence less time to zone/man up

I can see Winders moving to the wing when Dempsey returns. If we are unable to recruit someone he can fill that role until Merrett is ready imo.

It wasnt my term

Brunov called it the failed list, i just went with it.

I said myers body has failed himself

I said that myers has been a failure to now (before 2013) which i have emphasised, which would suggest the jury is still out.

But no i wasnt the one that started using that term

What is this tit for tat shit. I don't know whether to take you seriously.

I dont get it, isn't Gumby a ristricted free agent ? Hence we would lose him for nothing as we can't offer him what other clubs can . . .
No, Gumby isn't a free agent at all.

It wouldnt matter what Gumby does now. Even if he wins a norm smith in our premiership success.

His body has failed him for too long as a number 2 draft pick.

Its not about that, its more whether they have been a 'failed" or "not a failed" pick. Theres obviously a scale with all things like this.
Man try to find a positive...Gumby and Myers are on our list...for you to call them failures is kinda weird..

I bet you cheered loud and proud for Dean Wallis in 2000 when he had a blinder of a season,
I also bet you were one of the haters for the 14 years previous that he was on our list and pretty much injury riddled...Myers has been fantastic this year, and Gumby is finally getting on the park. Have some faith FFS.

I said the jury is still out "Hes been a failure till now (before 2013) started" is what i said, i also said that his body had failed till now (again before this season).

So get it right.

Gumby is was a pick 2, i dont think ive seen as little from such a high pick since he was drafted, even Jack Watts has given more to the melbourne club than him, again it was his body that let him down but im not sure who you can blame for this other than himself "His body failed him".

If you've had the injury luck Gumbleton's had, you don't 'blame' anyone. He's just wretchedly unlucky.

The obsession with apportioning blame is a misguided one.
