Do not see us going down the Garlett path given the leadership group gave him the big no last year and we passed on him. Despite him getting his shit together he is well out of favour on the inside.
Too bad really as someone else is likely to reap the rewards of taking a risk.

I'm sick of reading this quote over and over in this thread.

Our forwards were never awful - it was the delivery to them that was the problem. Kicking it on to the head of Davey and Jetta all year did my head in as they struggle to take overhead marks consistanly at the best of times. Crameri, a bull and tough to beat on a lead - lets put it on his head too. We struggled to kick to our strength up forward too many times and got found out. No wonder Stew wants out.

As much as his time is to move on, Gumby straightened us up when he played as he was always over a 50% chance to take a mark.
I'd argue that our forward line as a unit was awful....This is why I've come to love the idea of getting Chapman. Want him as essentially an on-field forward coach - in the face of other forwards telling them where and where not to go, teaching them how to work for each other and demanding they do so....and with a license to eyeball and scare anyone who fails to do so.
Chappy in this role improves us more than anyone else available...if it comes to pass he'll not only be an upgrade on Davey ( or whoever) but will make guys like Hurley/TBC/ Ryder/ better players.

Reckon I'd like to see us take the punt at pick 22 and back our culture in. Seems like the dynamic flanker/mid that I believe we really need.

Has he actually done anything THAT bad as to be judged untouchable?

His career stats in the WAFL are quite impressive...73.40 is a good return from 39 games.

Its not necessarily one thing that clubs (especially Essendon) viewed him as being too much of a risk last year, but more a few incidents (that were entirely his own fault) which when stacked up counted against him. He's done some things this year as well (like failing to show at a club interview) that will put him back in the pecking order. Whoever (if anyone) picks him up will be getting a bargain in terms of talent but he'd have to understand that one more indiscretion will more than likely be the end of any chance he has of a career in the AFL.

Our forward line functioned well when our midfield was holding up and Hurley was injury free.

Daniher will play at least 75% games this year if fit.. and will be better than last year..

A forward line of Hurley, Daniher, Winderlich, Chapman, Zaka and Kommer.. could do some damage.. especially if you trade out Kommer and send Goddard forward.. with him and NDS rotating!!

Also both TBC and Ryder can kick a few when up forward..

I think ppl need to remember we won 14 games this year.. with all the crap going on and were basically 1-2 games away from being serious top 4 contender.. and we beat one of the grand final teams at their home ground!!

We are close.. and the forward line doesn't need a complete overhaul.. the addition of chapman is a 2 goal a game difference immediately!

I'm sure he has done nothing that could compare with the actions of our coaching staff. Perhaps the club will be more willing to make decisions based on output rather than intangibles that they themselves comprehensively failed.

Won 14 but weren't in the hunt against the teams that played prelims ( Freo win aside )...even when we were winning forward structure was poor, always looked like we struggle to kick a score against the best teams in big games. Turning forward line into a cohesive, smart and selfless unit will improve us more than any individuals recruitment or development. Get this right and THEN we are close!

Yeah sorry.. I wasn't meaning to say our forward line was great.. I wasn't a big fan of the structure down there for most of the year..

Mainly cause I don't think Davey or Kommer or Merrett were ready for regular AFL game time..

That is where trading comes in..

Also I am starting to think that losing Crameri and giving Daniher more opportunity will be a blessing in disguise.. Watching some tape shows you just how lazy Crameri could be defensively.. and we looked too top heavy at times last year..

I like the idea of two key forwards and resting ruckman.. and the rest smalls/rotating mids..

I think it will make us faster and more flexible down forward next season..

After listening to Paul Connors today i get the feel imo that Gumby would be happy for trade but also wouldn't really care if he stays. Also seems pretty settled living in Melbourne with his girlfriend.

He watch it, Jobe is not his girlfriend.

You are probably the one who started the rumour that Scott Cummings liked big Cox.

Mods, Mods ban him I say:hearts:

JD will fix this in time - natural forward, great presence and finds the footy easily in dangerous spots...helps a lot with structural issues. As you say, could be the silver lining to Crameri leaving.

Getting 29 year olds won't do it either. Wait for Mundy next season!
This guy says you are wrong....

We desperately need a small forward like Chappy, must get him,
Nobody sends out notifications saying your premiership window is open, nobody would have thought we could win in 93, to suggest we don't get these guys because we're not ready means that you're not ready, I can assure you our club and players truly believe this...If you've ever had any personal premiership success even in Park footy or cricket you'd know what i mean, but some people are glass half empty, they are the ones who normally fail....

73 in two seasons at WAFL level from a kid playing flank/mid is impressive.

He plays pretty close to goal, certainly this year he did.

We must get Chapman cant go wrong with him for nothing and he showed he can still play very good football and at the right end of the season he could be something we lack. I still think hes good some good football ahead of him if he can get a semi decent preseason in.

Do you think we'll look at Mitch Thorp?

Sick of hearing the truth???? Ask yourself why was a crumbing forward sitting at CHF?
Crameri played himself as a tall forward and only rarely got on his bike and lead for the ball.

Yes the mids have to shoulder some of the blame but it has a hell of a lot to do with how the forward line structured up in the first place.
Win the game forwards were great, lose the game forwards are hopeless..

It's pretty simple for some simple people...

We won more games than we lost so our forwards passed...

How many forwards dominated in the Grand Final?

We really need a small forward or 2 but our talls are in for the long haul..

Against Geelong we were in the hunt. They were dead accurate infront of goal like vs hawks in the prelim

Kind of know what you mean my side made it into a cricket grand final and we lost because we couldn't get the wicket of one guy. He should have been out before he made 10 (was dropped by the keeper off my bowling when he was on 8 or something). He went on to score over 100 and win the game for them (he was dropped off me a further 5 times). After the game the captain proceeded to blame everyone but himself (he dropped the guy twice). Point being Essendon now need EVERYONE to step up and there can't be anymore passengers *cough* Jetta *cough*, because ultimately one player stepping up CAN and often will be the difference between a win and a loss.

Hey everyone,

Here's the latest podcast featuring myself, Jade and Hirdismyhero as we discuss all things list management including our un-contracted players, players who may seek a trade and potential targets.

Even if you don't feel like the long listen, I highly reccomend giving the first minute or so a listen to hear Jade provide a fantastic off-the-cuff rant on Carlton and their future prospects.

As an aside, I'll be looking to change the podcast up in future editions to get more general conversation such as that which saw Jade have his rant (the rant occurred between segments on the podcast in a random discussion about membership slogans which inevitably led to Carlton).

Check it out.

Bit weak on the captain's part, better luck next time...Agree with you on Jetta, his body language in the last game was a disgrace...I can't see any other club wanting him and he has a contract as well, may get another year...I'd like to have garlett but was scared off when i saw his facebook wall...time will tell..I don't think any of our small forwards are good enough to be elite..

Best rant ever

He would probably be the laziest player on this list as it stands, I've said it previously but I'd be happy even if we only got a 4th rounder at the earliest for him. Garlett is a tough one his off-field behaviour and attitude leaves a hell of a lot to be desired, but the sheer amount of talent and potential he has is extremely tempting. I've heard people saying he'll go in the 2nd or 3rd round but I reckon it could be later (maybe even the rookie draft if he misses out in the ND) and thats purely because clubs won't have any patience if he screws up again.

I cant see Hurley, Daniher and TBC working up forward. Daniher will probably have to help out in the ruck next year or we have to play these 3 and risk getting killed on the rebound or 'sling shot',
Agree - the better scenario would be Ryder playing more forward (moves like a mid when he wants to) and TBC playing no. 1 ruck....as we know Paddy just disappears when he plays forward for long stretches though, so won't happen.
