Yes, a good fair deal, lets be honest Gumby is steaknives but Mellington does give us a player we can use, and he is a better player than Davey and Kommer at least!

Both Mellington and Chappy very gettable prospects and in the areas we need to improve, hopefully we pull our finger out next week.

Davey will probably be a casualty if it happens though.

Is he?

come on bno1!!

A guy who has played how many games? is suddenly better than a proven 100 game player (Davey), and a guy, who much to the dismay of the Essendon faithful was a best 22 player this season (Kommer).

More than Heppell.

2011 and 2012 drafts we've done very well, but one thing we haven't got is an absolute bottom of the pack ballhound. A lot of poise and class in Kav, Merrett, Ashby, Gleeson and Dalgleish but the closest thing to an inside midfielder in that time is NOB. If we don't draft someone this year then we end up with a 3 year void, and we don't want that.

Have you told Hams this?

Does anyone else here couldn't give two shits about NDS? He is not needed, we just need to get another preseason is in Zaha, Heppell, Myers, Melksham, Howlett. They are the future!

the future is now. Anyone who doesn't think we need another class player like Dal Santo should discuss a different sport.

I'm really excited with the news around Chapman, he is still a fantastic player when fit and an excellent leader.

It's not worth crippling the development of our young midfielders, we gain NDS it might not be only Myers next years trade week looking for another club because of lack of midfield time. it could be Myers and Zaha because zaha has been pigeon holed on the forward flank. Angus Monfries rings a bell about being pigeon holed?

Zaka's 2013 was statistically pretty good but he did taper off towards the end of the season. Can't see him being pigeonholed as a forward flanker I think that has gone the way of Licha. If we gain NDS I think Howlett or Komer will be the ones to be benched.

it was just an example....

If Chapman is coming in and Crameri is leaving I'm keen on keeping Gumby. Solid dukes, straight kick, great tank. Not keen on losing Gumby and having to rely on either Ryder or TBell to develop that much into a forward role. He played a full season this year, he'll have another solid pre-season before 2014. Persistence with Gumbleton could be about to reap rewards, especially with the prosepct of being able to have more consistent game time. It will only be Daniher's second season. Body will still be too slight and, I think, he'll probably still be a bit raw for a full season.

I agree although if I was Gumby I'd be looking at Daniher, Hooker, Hurley, Carlisle, Bellchambers and Ryder and thinking there isn't much chance of me pushing any of these players out in the long term.

Realistically looking at Port they have room for a bloke who plays as a true CHF and can pinch hit in the ruck but I'm not sure if they're interested.

So according to the AFL website the Blues have given up on Chappy, 99.9% confident he'll be playing for us next season now. Hopefully he brings the Chappy curse with him (he's yet to play in a losing side against Hawthorn).

I'd be looking at those names and seeing a lot of injuries and a fair few rests. If he stuck around he'd get plenty of games in 2014 and would allow Hurley to go back.

Not keen on Mellington, who has shown little. Gumby as a key forward is worth plenty more than that. Very happy with Chappy, because just like BJ, he hates losing and will lift standards - not happy to put up with second best.

I'd take the Gumby + pick for Mellington + pick trade. We don't need anymore KPP, and we need small forwards. I can't see Gumby getting a game ahead of Hurley, Joe and the resting ruckman. Anything more and we'd have a top-heavy forward-line. Add Chapman and Mellington in and our small forward stocks improve. We need someone of Chapman's experience in our side, as our core is young and inexperienced when compared to the Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong's of the AFL.

I might have been keen on Mellington or Michie had we not been about to secure Chapman.

Do you really think JD will be ready for a full season of senior footy? I reckon he'd be cooked by round 15 - 20. I'm hoping Gumbleton remains a required player.

It'll be interesting to see how many years he's offered. I'm thinking 2 maximum?

It'd be a "one-and-one" type contract: 1 year, with an option for a 2nd if he meets performance and games requirements, i.e.: his hammy's don't decide to pack up again and sideline him for most of the year.
