Also sick of people saying Gumby and JoeD as their favoured KPF's when you either have TBC playing in the forward line with them and get smashed on rebounds like we already have in the past or have him playing in the VFL in which case he should've been on traded for something very good and not paid big dollars just to sit as a backup for the 2's.



Ive read a few saying how good his skill is and how good he would be at delivering the football inside 50.


Thank god melbourne have way more need for him and much better bargaining power.

This situation has been worsened by having ordinary players like Davey and Jetta in the team that are lazy

Yeah I don't believe anything with the media after our year with them just reporting what is being said

Hes linked to bombers every year I reckon plus with Craig there now crows players will always be linked no doubt!

From a cats supporters point of view I disagree.

The main reason we have moved on 4 over 30 year old players chapman, Corey, hunt , podsiadly is that there is a list squeeze at geelong and if we kept them and probably only chapman deserved another year then one or more of our talented 18-22 y.o would walk out and that makes no sense to keep 32 year olds to push out 20 year olds.
Especially when our coaches have been saying all year there is about 10 guys who could be playing afl in other teams.

Anyway if it true you have landed Chappy he will be a good addition good luck for 2014

I agree with your summary. Geelong is a very well managed club who are always looking to the future. You are wise in bringing in your next generation of players, or risk losing them to other clubs.

Get rid of Fletcher. His form isn't what it was in 2012. It is absolutely stupid to think that we could lose guy who could very well be a best 22 player to keep Fletcher around for another year.

Didn't you say that the Cats were silly to let go of Chapman. Surely he would be taking the place of a young player who could be best 22.

I agree that ppl become obsessed with picks.. and they usually end up poorly..

But in modern times.. a top 3 pick - especially if a midfielder - tend to end up pretty good players...

Pick 2 would be awesome.. especially if all we have to give up is Crameri and Myers.. can't believe it would happen.. but that would be the steal of the century for EFC.

Tony Shaw on 3AW said that we are one of the three teams in the running for Heath Shaw. If we somehow got pick 2 it would be traded for Shaw in return for pick 10 or 11.

Some thoughts for people to consider:

After the retirements of NatRat and Hilley, Essendon has one and one only 30+ player on our list (and that bloke just doesn't seem to age).

By comparison in 2013, Hawthorn had 5, Freo 3 and Cats had 6. Sydney had 7. SEVEN.

Removing Crameri, Essendon has 39 current players on its list. 31 of those guys are 25 or under. Consider what we can actually do on a footy field; that is ****ing outstanding.

Not including rookie upgrades, we have taken the following number of picks at the national draft:

2012: 6
2011: 3
2010: 5
2009: 4
2008: 4

We only have to take three (even including rookie upgrades).

Gotta say, I think Essendon has predicted the impact of free agency and how it allows you to augment a list better than any other side. We have deliberately skewed our list age profile downwards, and IMO we did it specifically in preparation for free agency.

Draft sanctions impact us FAR LESS than what is often thought - we've brought in a **** load of young talent and can afford to take the minimum picks for 2013 and 2014 (and we STILL managed to maintain a first round pick next year).

Love him or hate him, Dodoro has done a brilliant job.

Consider our deletions from the senior list - Hille, NatRat, Davis, Crameri (near certainty), along with the likely loss of Gumbleton.

That's five spots and we need to fill at least three through the draft. We not only have the room to pick up some senior bodies, our list profile almost demands it. We can giggle our arses off all the way to the FA market and take who we please. Welcome Chappy.

So if you assume as I do, that we take the minimum number of picks at the draft, we'll have 24-ish, 35-ish as our 'live' picks (Crameri and Gumbleton). It doesn't matter where our third pick falls if we upgrade a rookie (and I suspect Dalgleish will be that man).

Think about it, that means pick 44, 62 and 80 (or whatever they slide to) are completely useless to us in that situation and we still have a spot free to fill.

Bernie Vince at pick 44 doesn't look so bad anymore.......

Davey might be lazy but his speed makes up for it most of the time and defenders are usually worried when hes around.

We have three talls up forward and up back. Our default lineup would be Hurley / Daniher / Bellchambers or Ryder up forward and Fletcher / Hooker and Carlisle in the backline. Gumbleton and Pears act as depth.

The forward line has 66 games that can be allocated to KPFs. Hurley has a history of injuries, while Daniher is still developing physically and will require a rest to get him through the season. Ryder and Bellchambers rarely get injured but Ryder can often be reported and may miss a few games.

In a best case scenario Hurley and Daniher play 18 games each, with Ryder / Bellchambers playing every game; this leaves Gumbleton with eight games. But that is the best case scenario, Gumbleton would likely be needed for at least a dozen games. The need for Gumbleton becomes greater if Hurley is required in the backline, which could certainly happen given the injury profiles of both Pears and Fletcher. Suddenly you are looking at a situation where Gumbleton may be needed to play 14 or 15 games.

The absence of Crameri will provide opportunities for someone like Gumbleton. And Gumbleton is probably better than any replacement forward we are likely to get through the draft. To be honest there may be as much opportunity for him at Essendon as there will be anywhere else.

If he is our 6th, 7th or 8th mid we re in a great position. I don't mind if we get him TBH, as long as it is cheap. I'd take the pick 44 trade for Vince easily.
