Barry Davis, Ken Fletcher over ankle boots, Rotten Ronnie and the Disciple, The Budgie, Otway, Finishing 6th, South terrorizing us etc. Then Sheeds the saviour. Anyway I do think the Fletch in the Forward line is overdue. Rucked as a 17 yr old. Might be an effective way to maximise his last year/s and allows graduation of youth...both retention of quality...Pears...KEEP...and I agree with someone's post that we already have the team 22 that can go places as they mature and emerge as a complete team.

Didn't Sheedy play Fletcher in the forwardline against Carlton? In a Prelim? ...am I imagining things?

So we lose Gumby and Crameri, gain NDS + 4th rounder.. that is probably pretty fair for us.
Freo get Gumby for 54, they are very happy
Dogs get Crameri for 22, they are happy
Lions get 22 and 54 for Longer, they are unhappy but it is fair price for young ruckman
St Kilda lose NDS + 4th Rounder and gain Longer which fits with their youth policy and gives them another early pick.

I just don't understand why the guys paid to get this stuff done.. can't behave sensibly.. doesn't seem that difficult really.

According to Fairfax and News Limited, we're competing with St Kilda for Billy Longer.

Surprising to say the least.

Every Player on the Market Essendon has been linked to all because last year we got goddard i reckon

As I said in an earlier post, why not play him as a permanent forward alongside Daniher, which then free's Hurley to go back.

So your playing Longer (if we get him), Daniher and TBC in the same forward line

He isn't a forward! He is probably as pure a ruck as you get, really isn't that good forward, well not on a permanent basis anyway. We have the same issue as this season with 3 first choice rucks. I would rather pick up a Dan Currie than pay premium for a reserve ruck, unless we are planning on trading Ryder sometime soon and that idea is beyond stupid!

Or st kilda just let dal santo go to north as a free agent and use the compo pick (22) for longer...don't see why all the other fuss is needed.

That's why you don't get paid to do this.

However id prefer to keep pick 22 and go to the draft with it. Picking up NDS is only pushing guys like Myers, Howlett, Ekav, Melksahm back another cog and if we throw all eggs in one basket we could have some possible bleak times in the not so distant future.

I think Longer will be a pretty damn good player TBH he just needs the number one ruck role hes developed nicely over his first 2 years in comparison to other rucks in the past. You ideally wouldnt want him to be your number one ruck right now however in 2-3 years time i think hes be very serviceable in comparison to other rucks. I love a ruck these days that can go forward and hes certainly got that ability.

Understand the need to play in the trade...but given the TPP status I'm not rushing to load up too much given the current climate. Pay who we've got...persevere and believe b/c I don't like the look of the next 5 years based on the new and up and coming teams and the support they receive. Currency may well pay off in a couple of years...hopefully we win one before that time b/c it's looking tough to compete with all of the allowances being made.

Yeah I like that Rines. We support blokes who are looking for opprtunity other places which is fair enough and we pick up immediate quality with a longer term prospect. That works and is more than reasonable. paints us well in the whole scheme also.

Fletch at FF, smells like Melbourne tactics circa 2009. We need more controversy like we need Tayte Pears holding up our backline.
Longer will be a quailty 1st ruck and a sensible investment if we were to pay pick 20+.
NDS would be great but only on FA, we dont need to start paying picks and topping up our list for a flag tilt, steady list building is the way to go.

Maybe but would they do Ryder for pick 1-2, that is the sort of pick I would want and I am not sure they would, never know I guess. I still think it is a silly way as Ryder will be one of the main reasons if we do win a flag in the next 4 years.

That's why you don't get paid to do this.

Maybe.. or maybe the AFL screw you and tell you it is 3rd or, more likely, you would get nothing as the AFL will class it as a 'delisted FA' scenario as you had the chance to offer NDS a contract..

I would much prefer to use pick 22 in the draft or on something else than Longer and even though i think its very slight unders for him.

A lot of teams this year got away with pretty much playing only one ruck this year and it seemed to be the new trend with maybe a very small chop out of like 5-10% in those teams.

We dont need Longer

Ryder, TBC, JoeD is more than enough and JoeD will never likely become a full time ruck but he will be providing that small chop out when he devlops at some point in his career very similar to what Petrie did for the Roos this year. The thing with Ryder, TBC and JoeD is they are either young or havnt experienced severe injury problems *touch wood* they look durable types that will play plenty more footy. We can always pick up a mature FA if need be or from WAFL/SANFL/VFL if need be eg: Paul Johnson, Seaby, Orren stephenson, Jolly (this year) ect as pure backup if 2 severe injuries occur.

If we are including Hawkins then we have every right to include one of Hooker, Carlisle, Hurley

He would get a game at Geelong, that is probably their only weak point- there is a reason they took a massive gamble on McIntosh!

And would I give pick 22 for NDS? In a heartbeat.. without hesitation.. he is a very talented midfielder.. and he would flourish as the 6th midfielder.. no tag.. just doing what he pleases.. scary good...!!

So only 2, of which none are proven and off which Longer is more likely to get in front of. Every club has rucks, not every side has rucks in the quality of ours!
