I feel for you guys with Gumbleton. We're doing the same thing with Morabito. Number four draft pick with as much talent as anyone I have ever seen. But after three knee reco's there is very little hope of him having a decent career. Not even good odds on him playing an AFL game again since his debut year. But he's still on our list for that tiny chance that he may get some luck.

I agree, but sometimes you have to make the call. Hurley is in the same boat for me, he is a bloke that has a preium price, he must start delivering otherwise we should explore option. If you don't make the hard decisions your side doesn't improve. I feel for Gumby I really do but he was drafted in 2006, it is now 2013, we should have made this decision at the end of 2010.

But we did. We took the punt and signed him up for longer than the average player.

He'll come good.

Luckily with Morabito you have time, and he was just unlucky, he should play round 1 next season for you guys, injury aside (touch wood #).

You hope so, sometimes it doesn't happen, as I said we are entering a window of opportunity for EFC, we need to be harsh and realistic with some players. If they don't cut it, so be it. I hope Hurley comes good, I do. He is a backman though, hopeless forward.

It is a better option that playing Dustin Fletcher forward! All I said is I would rather get JPod than have Fletcher forward!

Eeeeeeh wrong!! Jpod? Sorry we're not a retirement village, chapman's enough and he's a bloody champion, but no way we should take jpod, Mitch Thorpe would be a better investment.

But yes Dusty wont ever play forward next season.

Longers a talent but I just can't see how we have room and I'd prefer to spend pick 25 on some young blood. If we did get him though could we play them all at once? Similar set up like Hawthorns forward line: Bellchambers: Hale, Roughead: Ryder, Franklin: Daniher, Hurley: Gunston, Longer: Bailey.

We'd look something like:
Fletcher, Hooker, Baguley
Dempsey, Carlisle, Hibberd
Stanton, Melksham, Goddard
Hurley, Daniher, Chapman
Winderlich, Ryder, Kommer
Bellchambers, Watson, Hocking
Inter: Heppell, Zaharakis, Longer Sub: Myers

Where's Heppell?

The key point there is before his run of injuries he was proving his worth. The issue is he hasn't been the same since then, the club has tended to hold onto injury riddled players for a bit too long, i.e. Gumby.

Who else..? Other than maybe Laycock none come to mind.

Ok quick straw poll.

Say gumby and crameri go, does the development of daniher, the ability of the ryder/belch combo to go forward and the ability of us to throw carlisle, hardingham, steinberg forward mean that marking forwards aren't a need for now? or do we look to the draft for a key forward?

Gumby for Mellington and Crameri for 22 (25) which then becomes Mitch Harvey or Cam McCarthy or any other key forward through the draft looks pretty good to me, i'll back our current midfield youth and our ability to find smalls later on in the draft

Wait for next year, this year is a rather weak draft so if you are taking pot shots at potential forwards you will lose. Would just grab the best midfielder, look for a Sam Mitchell clone and be done with it. Realistically we do need another forward but this draft isn't the one- next year is a kpp draft!

You've probably followed my posts a bit lately mate, I can see us going for that 2nd ruck/forward type. Ben Brown (21 y.o. 199cm, 99kg) could fill that no.3 ruck void we have whilst also being a sufficient no.3 forward option which he does for Weribee. Michael Apeness (18 y.o, 199cm, 101kg) was seen to be a highly rated ruck/fwd coming into 2013, he could also potentially fill the same role.

I can certainly see us taking two tales/ruckmen this year. A variety of options should be available around our initial picks (pick 40 - 60). Toby Nankervis, Cam Conlon, Rory Lobb are three of the more highly rated ones out there.

I would not discount pick 54 for Gumby, not the greatest of picks but we need to be in a position where we can get 4 picks inside the top 60 rather than having to use 60 plus picks.

Interesting if true...

I don't see why we would want longer at all...

Except maybe we trade longer to St Kilda for NDS?
  1. Gumbleton to Freo for pick 54
  2. Crameri to dogs for Pick 22
  3. EFC trade Pick 22 +54 to Lions for Longer
  4. Longer goes to St Kilda
  5. NDS and Pick 55 from St Kilda to EFC
So we lose Gumby and Crameri, gain NDS + 4th rounder.. that is probably pretty fair for us.
Freo get Gumby for 54, they are very happy
Dogs get Crameri for 22, they are happy
Lions get 22 and 54 for Longer, they are unhappy but it is fair price for young ruckman
St Kilda lose NDS + 4th Rounder and gain Longer which fits with their youth policy and gives them another early pick.

I just don't understand why the guys paid to get this stuff done.. can't behave sensibly.. doesn't seem that difficult really.
Can't on-trade players.
****S HAPPENING WITH CHAPMAN. I swear if he doesn't end up signing...
Might get him through DFA. That way Geelong won't be compensated.

Longer's an interesting player. He's very good aerobically, has good hands but isn't the best "tap" ruckman in the world. Brisbane's main issue with not picking him was that he hadn't developed his forward play enough. If we could develop that, he could become a very handy CHF (allowing Hurley back and have the dream combo of Hurley/Hooker/Carlisle)

Ok. Fletcher Full Forward. Who's gonna stop him? Other forwards roaming. Dangerous. Coach against that. Tell me how other teams would manage that...Fletch at the FF line. Allows Pears, Carlisle, Hooker etc to hold down and establish solid back half.

No one needs to. He cant mark the ball.

This is just irrational foaming dressed up as "making hard decisions". Be patient. Hurley was as influential as anyone when he played this year. He has been cursed injuries such as rolling ankles and other minor contact stuff. It will turn because there is no reason for it not to.
