with the pre-season dragging along i thought i would get everybodys opinion about what they expect from every player next season.
How many games they expect them to play? Where they expect them to play? Where the wont them to play? How they expect them to perform? Where they expect or wont them to finish in the b&f?
I thought we will go buy jumper number and move on to the next player the following. Should kill some time.

Starting with no 1 Mark Johnson

I am hoping mark returns to his best form and would be close to being top 5 in the b&f. Is his best form behind him? I don't know? As for where his best position is i think he is a great defender/tagger type who can hopefully do what mcveigh did this year allowing mcveigh to have a go as a forward. But knowing sheed's he will probably be having him play in every position bar ruck by season's end.

Thoughts?

P.S. Tomorrow Ricky Dyson.

i expect him to play the full 22 games, im hoping that he gets the form he had in 05, i would like him to play as a small foward or a tagger but he is good as a defender, i expect a top 10 b&f finish from him.

Agree with you there Gus as to position. I also think he will play all games, only weakness is that he can be undisciplined when in the back half and gives away too many free kicks - usually for high tackles. Can be used in backline, wing hbf or hff. Want more consistency. McVeigh was great for us last year. Would also like a top 10 in the B & F, if you play all games that should be a monty (would have last year with all our injuries).

What is his contract status? If he has another year like last and it's up next year he might find him slef in other colours. I certainly hope not but he needs to lift, and lift round 1.

If we werent so blessed with forward options, Id love to see MJ in the forward pocket. I really think he cold turn out to be a great avenue to goal and dare I say kick between 30-40 in a season. Least of all, with his application to each contest, he could lock the ball in our forward 50.

:thumbsu: Well thought and so right

Ricky Dyson?

Hope that this is a break through type of year for him where he cements his spot in the 22 and plays 22 consistant games. Is the classic wingman type with his pace and beautiful left foot kick. hoping he starts well in the preseason and builds his confidence and hopefully finish in our near the top 10 in the b&f

Tomorrow: Jobe Watson

im hopig for 15+ games from dyson, i think that he can fin top 10 in b&f, i want him to find consistent form, keep him around the midfield - foward area.

Simply, this kid should be asked to be given the ball and run/kick it long. Thats where his strength lies and with our major ball winners feeding it out to him, he should hopefully be up to the task and assert himself as a vital link to our potentially best forward structure in years.

This could get me in a lot of trouble on this board, and hopefully I'm proven wrong...but I don't think he's going to make it.

I think he'll struggle for a game in 2007.

Where do you think he's lacking and who do you think would be immediately taking his spot in our first 22?

To answer my own question, Id nominate Dempsey and Winderlich..

Agree with you longy.

He is my mates favourite player, has been since the start, whilst I kept telling him stants would be something.

With the influx of speed and midfielders this will be a telling season for him, if he cant stand up it will be all over by season end.

Needs to really work hard to keep his spot on the wing. Also needs to improve his disposal when running flat out (I know they have been working on this at Essendon during their preseason so will be interested to see results in the NAB cup andround 1) Best of luck to him.

He's only a young player, so it's hard to be critical about his weaknesses without knowing whether it's just a lack of experience that is holding him back.

He doesn't appear to be able to combine a defensive and attacking game and I'm not sure he works hard enough on the field. For someone who is such a beautiful kick, he really doesn't show it enough. He does have some great qualities, we just don't see enough of it.

Winderlich and Jetta are the two that spring to mind to push him out of the side. Nash also.

Dyson needs to develop consistency and the ability to play a whole game rather than just bursts. The pressure will be on for him this year for sure, but I haven't lost hope for him yet.

Has he been given the opportunity to play close to a full game? I don't think he has had enough game time enough moist of the time. He will make it.

I think he will be dropped a couple of times during the season and will find some form in the 2s. Overall i think he will play about 10 -15 games.

Was thinking along the same lines. He really has to come out of the blocks hard or he will be in serious trouble getting a game and retaining his spot on the list. I really hope he makes a good go of it but the pressure is now really on him.

Jobe Watson.

I expect jobe to be again be in the middle with his brillient clearence ability and positions. He will get alot more attention this year but hopefully with stanton in there and hopefully JJ having one of his better seasons they too will also get attention. I hope he doesn't sort of get second year blues so to speak in that last season was a break through type year where he played consistant senior footy. On the way to being one the league's top midfielders sort of in the mould of a scott west. Top 5 b&f again would be a great effort.

Tomorrow James Hird.

If he's not a regular senior player next year then he's gone, simple as that.

With a decent pre-season behind him i'll think he'll be ok but he has some serious confidence issues. Ricky needs to back himself a little more and become a little more selfish on the field.

Back on to Dyson. Currently he is a poor mans Ryan Lonie.

Is this his 4th or 5th year on the list?

How many players around the league that can't cement a spot in the best 22 after 5 years?

I have a worry that he will get overtaken this year by some of the players already mentioned.

He needs to get a little bit of mongrel about him and stop looking lost on the field for a good part of the game.

Make or break season.
