What I liked

The fact they had 48 i50's and won the clearances says a heap about how out defence went. They were awesome. I was expecting us to cruise thru this game and win by 5 goals - we didnt and we sent a statement to the comp. Also loved the form of the Baby Pies. Ps Big shout out to Foxtel. They are by far the best footy broadcaster.

What I didnt like

Nothing......

Votes

Caviat this with the fact I thought the defence was incredible today. We got beaten at the clearances and hence have marked the mids back a bit for that. They got it in near 50 times so they had their chances to score more than 30 or whatever it was.

5 - Reid - took their best player and smashed him
4 - Pendles - 160 SC points is a pretty good effort. Hope you have him Capt!
3 - Obrien - smashed Thomas who despite the poor kicking has been in good nick
2 - Toovey - will surprise many but when they get 48 I50's (not a bad effort - we had 66) it says a lot about our defence and this bloke repelled a lot of footy over 4 qtrs.
1 - Swan / Rounds / Sidebottom - take your pick.

Apols to Thomas but you were subbed pal!

Players

Davis - Exceptional. I think he was going at 100% effectiveness to half time or so. Wished he kicked that goal in the second. He just reads the play so well up the back their and even showed he hasnt lost any of the offensive ability.

Tazz - Thought he was real good. Seemed to have whoever rotated to FF and did his job on all of them as well as picking up some good possessions. I think Danny Frawley said the perfect game and he was right.

Maxy - Wasnt really sited to half time and probably his highlight was a negative when he got runned down and it ended in a Harvey goal albeit Rounds effort wasnt good. Second half was a different story. Started fwd and was ok but then pushed back and was really good. Back to his usual game.

Kraks - I thought he was good. PLayed fwd and had a run in the middle a few times. As usual happy to put his head on the ball. Pity he didnt finish that goal he weaved out of a pack from. Also good to see get some mid time.

OBrien - Slaughtered Edwards and I think he even had Thomas a bit early. Hard to know bc whoever he was on didnt get a bloody kick. Very good - his ability to slip a tackle is incredible. Was really good I thought.

Pendles - Had Firritto early and got 11 very good ones in the 1st qtr. Then had Swallow a bit and even Adams one stage but didnt matter. Smashed them all. His ability to get the ball in the corridor and lower his eyes is a treat. DVery good wet ball use

Ball - Wasnt really noticed muhc in the first half but the handball to Reid who spotted up Blair for a goal was terrific. Lovely pass off the left to in the last qtr was a feature.

Thomas - Superstar this bloke and he is largely that because of how hard he works. Marks it, kicks to advantage off ground, kicked a few himself. Really good. Hope the injury aint to bad. Next week off maybe? Big game but look no need to play inj players to win it.

Rounds - Look made one bad mistake on Harvey when he didnt watch the footy but otherwise just smashed their 2nd best player. North thought they could exploit it by having him fwd ..... didnt work. We may have found a tagger!

Brown - Ok. Thought he rucked well against Goldy. Was expecting him to get well beaten when he had that role and was good enough without being a real influence offensively until the last qtr when it was WB all over again.

Beams - Geez I miss him in the team! But going to be a big effort to get back in!

Jolly - Anyone else notice he didnt jump much at the ruck contest? Not his finest. They belted us in the clearances and Goldy seemed to be getting it more to advantage at stoppages. Gave away a few frees as he likes to and was lucky the north blokes didnt see Goldy pushing fwd a few times. No real influence but kicked a nice goal in the 3rd I think it was.

Reid - Exceptional. Shut out Petrie completely. His kicking is elite.

Wellers - Started slowly but like a bloody cougar he patrolled that wing to great effect and kicked a couple of goals in the fist half from memory. Then went out of it a bit in the 3rd. In the last he got the first two clearances which at least one ended in a goal and maybe the other did. Like to see him get a bit more mid time soon.

Sidey - Thought his ball use early was average but like Wellers clicked into gear halfway thru the 1st and belted his man and was a really good weapon offensively with his 4 goals. Ball use was super and lovely goal in the second from the pocket. Another who seems to work so hard...how else does he get into the goals without anyone on him all the time.

Keefe - First few efforts were good but he gave away a 50, dropped a sitter and got caught holding the ball in the second so wasnt his finest. But didnt he find his feet in the second half. Some lovely marks and good ball use but the thing I loved were the two tackles he put on in the middle which ended in Fasolo's first goal. He showed enough.

Buckley - Wasnt a real influence but didnt do anything wrong at all. Didnt really pick up who he was on but it is a credit it to him that he now considered a bit of a regular. Johnson will want that spot back but the lad is doing enough.

Caf - Miss him to!

Cloke - Was excellent I thought in those conditions and being double teamed. Ran hard and presented which was great. For me he has that John Brown ability to read the footy in the air better than his man. Kicking is a treat to watch now.

Tooves - His ball use in those conditions was incredible. He is so under rated this bloke. In that first half I couldnt count how many times he repelled it and his man (Thomas) did little. That effort in the last qtr highlighted his day I thought. Super effort. Got votes for me.

Fasolo - Sub obviously and didnt look happy about it did he? made up for it when he got on and showed plenty as a medium fwd. The effort off HB and then to get the ball back and weave before sending it perfectly for Sidey was great. Is a player.

Swan - Superstar.....not going to say any more.

Shaw - Had Harper and whilst he got a bit of it it was bc Shaw let him run up. Shaw stayed back and was very effective I thought. Organises that defence wonderfully and was good over the 4 qtrs. Nice to see he got a run in the middle in the last.

I think you've left someone out.:p

Absolutely agree about our defense.

Heres some random musings.

Reid - Was the most influencial key position player on the ground and looked as confortable in the wet as the smalls. Just owned anything that was put in his direction. Cut off so many forward thrusts. Fast becoming one of the finest exponents of reading the ball coming into defense. And clinical field kicking when he inevitable wins it. This dude is a unit, and not in a bad way.

Toovey - Our best defender in the first half easily. Another that just doesn't lose a contest. Loved his collect in the centre, baulk, shrugged tackle and handball (goal assist) in the 2nd? Shows the level of confidence he has reached since the early part of his career.

Blair - He's a wet weather footy player isn't he? Great early in the game, faded a little later but made a very good player in Rawlings look silly at times. Couldn't believe the confidence we had kicking to him deep today. But i'm not arguing with the results. The weather played it's part but this guy belongs.

Keeffe - Was really interested in his debut. Look he looked a bit lost at the beginning of the game in conditions which would be a nightmare to debut in for a guy his size. Seemed a bit nervy to me early but settled into the game beautifully. People at the pub were looking at me stupid when I was prophesising him as a player for the future but he is class. The wet weather scuppered the greatest advantage of his, mobility, at his height, yet I felt his ability still came to the fore. Maybe i'm a victim of a man crush though!

Rounds - Was given Harvey and blanketed the cagey old war horse. I'm glad we let him revert back to a role he is more practiced in this season and the result showed. Definitely good to play a role part if called on even if not be a huge influence just yet. Really interested how he continues to develop.

Keefe's footskills stood out to me. In the wet for a guy his size, very impressive. Would like to see how he goes about his marking in better conditions, he didn't extend his arms really today when marking. Could be due to conditions though.

You missed out on Blair. 100% in our top 5 best today. Played half the game as our i50 target. If the bloke was 6'3 no doubt in my mind he would be the next Lockett/Dunstall!

that was in the 1st he kicked it to the square when daisy took his hanger, thought it very unfair that toovey didn't get any accolades at all for his work in the middle and his run to set that up

otherwise everyone played well, and I thought Tarrant had Petrie for most of the day, but its so hard to pick up nowadays with the way they rotate around. Was good to see Heath playing on a wing and through the middle for a fair chunk of the day

rounds was good on harvey, a couple of mistakes but a lot to work with there

just finish on keefe, started nervously, but really liked his 2nd half, was so full of promise. Like Malcolm Blight says, what you look for in a young tall in their first few games is a sign, a strong mark, a tackle, something like that, he produced enough to get excited about

Great summation Snoop. Very tough to do.

Blair had 11 tackles to go with his 3 goals. A perfect small forwards game.

I'm a big Buckley fan but early on he missed a few targets he should have hit and a poor decision to kick it long out of our defensive 50 when if he lowered his eyes, there was an unmarked player 20m away. Being a bit picky here though. His 2nd half was pretty good IMO. Agree, Johnno gets his spot.

Scott Pendlebury is a freak. Composure in traffic is unbelievable. Out marking Firrito in a contested marking contest is a sign of the player this guy is becoming.

Daisy was magnificent, and Swanny is back to 2010 form.

We kick arse.

Poor crowd today for 70K members.
The team played well, loved that were I was sitting to be able to hear Maxy and Heaters organise the back line.
Since Maxy has been back the back line is on top of it's game.
Good to see the defenders rotate through the forward line today.

I would like to put my hand up after last weeks poor effort on my behalf. While watching the game live I did not think that Jolly had a great game. Upon review of the game on the TV I realised that he was an absolute gun in the first half. My bad on that one.
I did not get to see this weeks game so please carry on.

I thought Krak spent more time higher up the ground than usual, certainly got more possies high than usual.

Swan was a game of two halfs. The first half he got plenty of it but largely ineffectual. The second half he got plenty of it and used it well. The main thing is he is certainly moving a lot better and covering a lot more ground. I am not sure whether I find it encouraging or worrying that he has been much better in the second half for both games. On a plus side it means his fitness is back to 100% on the negative side he is doing a lot of his good work at the moment when the sting is out of the game.

Sidebottom seems to always play well against North.

Fasolo may have been the best game we have had from a sub (who came on late). Again that may have something to do with the sting going from the game but he has a lot about him. Uses the ball well, very calm and good strength for a kid.

Reid has got to be AA this year. Has had an awesome month. With the form he and Cloke have shown we have had the 2 best kpp on the ground in most of our recent outings.

Blair another decent return to form.

Rounds. You have to be rapt for the kid. That was a huge task for a guy who had previously only player a quarter. He did it well and certainly earned himself a game next week. With that said North certainly didn't do Harvey any favors. Will be interesting to see who he gets next week. Part of me would like to see how he goes on a midfield player but I know with our center square set up that a tagger is some what of a waste. If Gibbs is used on the back flank than I hope Rounds gets the job as a defensive half forward on him.

Poor crowd today for 70K members.
Haha, funny joke.

Wet weather, Sunday Arvo, Live coverage on TV and we are playing the worst drawing team in the AFL (before GC and GWS arrived;)) and we get 53K +.

Forget the 70K members, we will never get all the 70K to the one game, simply because a fair percentage of them are 3 game ticket holders.

Great crowd today, apart from the Eagles (if they had a stadium that holds that many) no other team in the comp could have matched that crowd against that team under those circumstances.

As for the players, I thought it was Sidebottom and Harry's personal best performances of the year, they shone for 4 quarters, and were great throughout.

Ben Reid is a gun, I know I keep repeating it, but apart from Harry Taylor at Geelong there isn't a rebounding tall CHB in the AFL in his class.

Jolly will get better with every game he plays, Goldstein was North's best player for mine, tried his heart out all day, and was bloody good in the ruck, too agile for Jols.

Of the "newbs", I thought Rounds was brilliant on Boomer, apart from that one that got over the back, he didn't do a lot wrong all day. Keefe got better as the game went on, and Fasolo was the super sub, great effort after visually not being happy with being the sub (a great sign, he's a born competitor who just wants to play).

We still can improve (players to come back), but that was close to perfect from those 22 today.

With Sandi out and Cox just taking the foot off the gas a touch I'd say Goldy has been a clear stand out ruck in the comp over the past 8 weeks. Jols put up a good contest second week back and as you say will get better with every week.

Don't know how you get it together so quick. Agree 100%.

yeah a few people have asked me that. I start writing it at half time bc I sometimes have a tendency to forget bits early in the game if I just do it all at the end. Yeah I left out Blair above and his game was awesome wasnt it!
