Well what a game. North open it up and away we go! North close it down and the second half is a yawn. At least we were 6 goals up by the time it turned crappy.

Big week for me this wk, lost the little fella and was hoping we would win for him.

Anyway the coach / player review

Malthouse - had them up tonight and it showed. i do think that laidley set the game plan and what we saw in the first hour had more to do with Laidley wanting to attack. Our blokes seemed to enjoy the pace of the game and took advantage. cannot help but wonder if he let them have a crack at the corridor what would happen. I think the skills are good enough and the pressure on the opp carrier is great.

L.Davis - now an elite midfielder. Just brilliant.

N.Maxwell - good to have him back. Solid game. Good goal off Warren early. Def better than Cox and Goldy.

Medhurst - outstanding when the game was there to be won. Gee I hope he plays next monday.

OBrien - Shocking game in the cont mark situation. Very good at ground level though wasnt he.

Anthony - He didnt blink thru that spray - must have been a good one. Thought he played a solid game. Chases well and creates pressure. Also happy to hit blokes hard which I love in a FF

Pendles - Another one who has become an elite midfielder. Just wonderful. If he could develop a more penetrating kick he would be perfect.

OBree - good again. DaVe will love me writing this. Tackled well and pressured the carrier. Good with hands as well.

Thomas - One I have been a bit hard on lately. Got another 20 touches tonight but they were much more damaging. He was running fwd of the ball which is when he plays his best. Ran super hard.

Corrie - All you blokes who have been watching VFL need to fess up now and apologise. This kid was terrific. Energetic, moves it quickly, good with hands, shared the ball (didnt see anything selfish), looks inside, hands particularly very good. Well done

L.Brown - Solid game.

N.Brown - Held Petrie and Hale when he had to. Went fwd for a goal that was good as well. He made a lot of errors last week and he was better this week.

Beams - what happened to him. Must have been inj as wasnt spotted in last. Geez he was good though. That play where he ran thru middle and then passed off his left to 7 was great.

Clarke - Found out overhead early but recovered and played well. He is a talent this kid and a more aggressive game plan suits him.

Wellingham - Fantastic. Another hard runner and has improved his 1:1 skills a lot. Ran hard and foot skills super. Another who looks to move ball quickly and we look a whole lot better when thats happening.

Lockyer - Magnificent. When we lacked leadership last week this bloke picked it up tonight. Ran hard and skills fantastic.

Fraser - Grant Thomas I hope you go out of your way to make good on this kid. He tore McIntosh, Hale and Petrie up. 25 touches says it all.

MacAffer - didnt do a lot but goal was v good. Pressure as well was nice so has to keep that up.

Cloke - was ok but Firrito did a good job to be fair. They at him the whole not and Meddy and Anthony benefited bc of it.

Toovey - was ok and tried his hardest as usual but skills poor. Surely Shaw gets his spot.

Presti - Well done. Knocked off Hale and then Edwards after he'd gotten away from Harry.

Swan - along with Pendles and Davis gives us three very good mids. He stood up.

Barham - Like Toovey you just cannot fault the effort but the skills are poor to average. His pace, pressure and tackling a feature but would love to see him keep his kicks lower.

Wellingham has improved his core strength hasn't he?

Shrugs off those tackles a lot easier now, and has improved overhead.

Good to see improvement from him, it was needed.

I get the feeling he plays better at AFL level than VFL level. I think he feels the need to try and stand out at VFL level and ignores the little things.

Apparently, it was reported on MMM that Beams was injured. Can anyone confirm this?

Leon was bloody amazing tonight, BOG for mine.

I actually liked Toovey's game tonights, his skills wernt as bad as they have been in the past.

Cloke's poor start continues, serious worries now.

Pendles, OBree and Medhurst* were also amongst the best for me

Fraser was beaten by McIntosh tonight, although he was pretty good.

Well being someone who knows zero about the injury my estimate may not be the best haha.

I'd pluck 2 weeks out of thin air haha.

Yeah confirmed on MMM that it is an adductor strain. Usually at least a one week injury. More likely to be two. It's a shame cos like you guys, I thought he was impressive in the first half.

Davis, Swan and Pendles were fantastic in the middle tonight. Good to see Wellingham and Corrie both come in and play well.

Barham butchered a few kicks, but he was better tonight, quite a few found their targets, and you can't fault his running and tackling which is first rate.

Totally agree with these two....

Super impressed with Corrie tonight and I have always known that Sherrif has the talent..... :D

What a difference a week makes hey...... How good did we look playing a fast, through the corridor, running game.

I would be happy to leave him in because his pressure nearly the best in the team. Hopefully his skills come on... I didnt notice as many clangers tonight as there was against Essendon.

Barham had that one massive brain fart, he just totally spotted up a Roo's player. It was a bit weird.

But his kicking was better tonight, he was also a bit more inclined to handball.

He just needs to drop it a little lower, wait a tad longer for it to hit the boot so he isn't getting underneath the ball or 'shovelling' under it.
Little bit more spear to it and he won't be bad.

I'm all for keeping him around, and keeping Wellingham and Corrie.

One absolute howler from Jaxson, but without checking the stats he seemed to look for the handball more tonight rather than kicking it - may have contributed to his improved use of the ball.

Best: Dane Swan, Leon Davis, Scott Pendlebury, Tarkyn Lockyer, Shane O'Bree, Simon Prestigiacomo
Good: Sharrod Wellingham, Nick Maxwell, Anthony Corrie, Martin Clarke, Jack Anthony
Average: Josh Fraser, Dale Thomas, Toovey, Barham, Medhurst, Dayne Beams, Nathan Brown, Macaffer
Bad: O'Brien, Travis Cloke, Leigh Brown

BOG for me would have to be Tarkyn Lockyer. He is a star.
Wellingham and Corrie both suprised me today, didn't expect them to do so well. Although I reckon Fraser got beaten in the ruck he was good around the ground but needs to do better in ruck work.
Medhurst, Macaffer and Toovey need to be more damaging. Medhurst is great but goes missing for a while.
Edwards absolutely DOMINATED O'Brien. Poor effort.
Travis Cloke and Leigh Brown both went missing tonight. Send them to the two's.

I only got to watch the first half (not even actually), but I thought Pendlebury started out shockingly. Couldn't find a target and wasn't feeding the handballs as much as usual. Did he improve after half time?

i watched barham closely.

His kicking issue isnt that he is a dodgy kick although they are flighted, its more he doesnt engage his brain before kicking and just kicks in a direction. When he does actually aim up and look for a target he generally hits it

My take...

1. Davis - He's now a very accomplished footballer, has a ton of weapons from most points of the ground. Can seem to wander around a bit but is excused by his superior disposal and ground level ability. Another great game; is establishing himself as one of the top players in the league.
5. Maxwell - Great to see him back, I really rated his game. Is a captain - puts his body on the line when it matters and is underrated in contested situations.
7. Medhurst - Early he was great - left with an injury and I'm not sure of the extent of it. Hopefully he is ok for next week.
8. O'Brien - Not great tonight. Struggled on Edwards.
9. Anthony - Doesn't need much of it to make an impact. Another 5 kicks tonight for 3 goals. Would like to see more than that but can't argue with his conversion.
10. Pendlebury - Probably not as good as his stats suggest but is, for the most part, a class above his opponents. Still he's one of, if not, our best player.
11. O'Bree - I didn't realise he had 25 but he wasn't awful - he certainly wasn't great though.
13. Thomas - Did the hard things but once again didn't get enough of it. Happy enough with his game, he's slowly getting there. Still not convinced he'll ever be an elite ballwinner.
14. Corrie - Not a fan but can't argue with his game tonight. Got a bit of it and kicked 2 important goals. He'll get a few more weeks and after that performance, rightly so.
15. L Brown - He offers nothing at all. Just play Bryan or Wood - we may win a hit out that way. Spud.
16. N Brown - When he doesn't have a role he is exposed. Didn't do anything horribly wrong but didn't really offer much either.
17. Beams - Did what mattered, didn't get much of it tonight though. His in and under and shephearding work was good, he's a long term prospect.
18. Clarke - Not great tonight. Needs to be encouraged to run through contests and kick long instead of trying to get creative because he's not quite there yet.
21. Wellingham - Such a confidence player and was wonderful to see him get an opportunity. Don't care what anyone says, he's going to be a big part in our future and showed tonight why he will be. Contests well, uses the ball well, knows what to do. Is still skinny so gets pushed around a bit but just give him some time - he's going to be a great player for us.
24. Lockyer - Can't fault his performance tonight, kicked goals when they mattered and used the ball well also. I do expect more consistency from him however when it matters.
25. Fraser - Still not great tonight. Beaten in the ruck but he did show more intent when he entered the contest. McIntosh is one of the better ruckman running around so he certainly didn't have his colours lowered too far, I still expect more though.
30. Macaffer - I rate the guy. Clever, knows where the goals are and does the little things that are needed. Is obviously still very raw but I am not against him being given more opportunities to develop and grow into that role.
32. Cloke - Not great. He's probably been our biggest disappointment so far for the season. I understand that the opposition defensive structure is built around stopping him but he's now at a stage of his career where he needs to exert himself more upon games and he's just not doing that currently.
34. Toovey - I'm one of his biggest critics going around but he wasn't horrible tonight. Still he does let me down when playing in bigger, high pressure games but was OK tonight.
35. Prestigiacomo - Great again, he's a timeless footballer. Can't fault him.
36. Swan - Again... magnificent. Just goes so hard and his ball winning ability plus his knack to find the footy is second to none on our list. Just goes and goes and goes. Love him.
43. Barham - Moves so well - just can't use it. Heart goes to mouth when he gets the ball.

Medhurst is a star! the way this guy uses the footy to spot up players loose in the 50 is second to none.
Corrie is the one who surprised me, fantastic game, seems self asured didnt panick under pressure, and very smart ball use, well done son terrific effort!
Pendles Davis Swan Lockyer were the difference all played super games.

Channel replayed the piece of play and someone already mentioned it in here, but how good was it when we went through the corridor, balls ends up with Beams and he squeezes the most divine little left foot love tap right between two players. Resulting kick ends up in the lap of Medhurst.
Jizzed in my pants.

I only got to watch the first half (not even actually), but I thought Pendlebury started out shockingly. Couldn't find a target and wasn't feeding the handballs as much as usual. Did he improve after half time?

His stats were flattering for mine. Got plenty of it, but didn't hit as many targets as usual. Had 2 pretty average defensive contests in NM's forward 50.
It was a solid game, and if he could do that week in week out, i'd be happy enough, but it wasn't as great as some are making it out.

h)Pendles - Another one who has become an elite midfielder. Just wonderful. If he could develop a more penetrating kick he would be perfect.
Six minute mark in the second quarter, Lockyer wins the centre square clearance and dishes it out to Pendlebury who kicks it 50+ meters straight down the guts into the forward 50 which results in a goal.

...and I'm pleased to see the return of the strong Thomas mark.

It may just be me but late in the third and for most of the 4th i noticed that players weren't going to barham and he had to win his own ball to get a kick. For example Tarks would gather around the half back line and look up to see barham running past but instead he would decide to kick it himself. Not saying this is a bad thing as i rates Tarks' kick highly and it could just be me who thinks this.
Also i think Barham could be a very good tagger. Has pace and great tackling ability and with a little more Body strength and footy knowledge he could be very handy.

For me davis swan and tarks were BOG.

Just thought I'd mention that Maxwell was excellent, played a smart game and didn't waste a disposal. Great to see him back in the team.

Love the O'BRee love.

Great review Snoop.

Only thing i disagree with is that I reckon Toovey deserves more credit than you gave. Also think you were generous with Leigh Brown.

Cloke was good i thought. Is still strugglign for form...but if he keeps that workrate up then he'll regain touch quick. He kicked a goal, set Leon up with another which he couldve had a shot at himself...and missed 2 others. Plus he worked harder up the ground
