As we have good depth now, there will be fierce competition, particularly between older players of similar type/position for places in the team. To have a chance of playing games this year and possibly avoid being one of the candidates for delisting later in the year, I think, one wouldn't want to end up being judged as the worst-performed player in any of the following parings/groupings:

1. Ellard, McLean and Curnow
2. Collins and Kerr
3. Rowe and Casboult
4. White, Bower and Thornton
5. Davies, Russell and Duigan
6. Joseph and Armfield (perhaps Davies should be included here instead?)

Does anyone have any thoughts on how any of these players might perform in comparison to others in the same pairings/groupings?
Note: Apart from Duigan, Curnow and Rowe (who were more mature recruits), I haven't included any first or second year recruits as they are still developing.

Whilst competing with eachother, I wouldn't have any of the players from 2 & 3 in our best 22. Rowe is an unknown quantity but the others are currently depth IMO.

The others are good though should be an interesting year.

Couldn't agree more with this. Well said.

wouldnt mind seeing a change for bower or thornton, permanent forward perhaps, depends on their pre season and devotion, from what i have seen in games i have watched, thornton is committed and an agile player who week in week out justifys his position in the team
great thread btw

I think Casboult could get a chance.

We'll see him in the NAB Cup, but I think it is highly unlikely that we'll see him play a senior game.

Firstly he's on the rookie list. We have 2 nominated rookie spots, and I'd think that Curnow & Tuohy would be ahead of Casboult for them. That means he won't get an opportunity until later in the season when we are able to elevate a further rookie (by which time I'm not sure we'd be willing to experiment too much), or if we lose someone on the senior list to a long-term injury - and even then he'd be no guarantee.

We have a fair few taller forward options that would all be ahead of Levi, so he's a fair way back in the pecking order.

I really doubt we'll see him. I'm not nearly convinced he has what it takes to make it.

On the CFC website atm, Curnow, Casboult and Tuohy are all shown as senior listed players. The six rookies are shown as Carter, Bray, Heyne, Bell, Dale and Lodge. Just sloppy webwork, or have some decisions been made?

Pretty sure that's just how they finished season 2011, so it that would be sloppy website maintenance.

Curnow & Tuohy were the nominated rookies in 2011. Casboult was promoted (for Mitchell IIRC) and was either still eligible to be on the senior list by the end of the season because of that, or he was elevated as the rookie that can be nominated after round 11 (or 13?).

We had no official rookie elevations at the end of last season. Proof of that being:
1) the only announcement regarding our rookies at the end of last season was to farewell Cachia, Dare and Twomey; and
2) we only had 3 picks in the draft, being Bootsma, Rowe and Buckley. Rookies must now be elevated through the draft.

Our depth really helps now that we're going to be resting players more frequently than in yesteryear. Gives everyone a chance to show what they've got at the top level.

I think Casboult could get a chance.

I hope he performs well with the Bullants and is given a chance. As far as my understanding goes, at the end of the year he will be either be delisted, re-rookied or given someone else's spot on the senior list (Rowe's, if he is not AFL level?). The same goes for Carter, Bray, O'Keeffe, Curnow and Touhy.
Out of that lot, only Touhy looks certain for promotion with Curnow a good chance, too.

In that case O'Keeffe must still be a rookie also, as he was delisted and then taken up again in the 2010 rookie draft. That makes 10 rookies and 38 on the senior list. Can that be right?

Good question. ROK is a rookie as well, not sure why he's listed on the senior list on the website.

Pretty sure our rookie list is as follows:

Rhys O'Keeffe
Levi Casboult
Ed Curnow
Zach Tuohy
Mitch Carter
Tom Bell
Nick Heyne
Frazer Dale
Blake Bray
Matthew Lodge

Bray was technically on the rookie list but was not eligible to play senior games at all. I would think the same deal applies to Lodge in 2012. Not sure if Bray is now onto the main rookie list or not.

Would love some clarification from the club which has never really been forthcoming. It is quite confusing but I think the above is correct.
