Listening to scotty Lucus on SEN he was saying that Richmond players that are not that highly skilled should be doing extra work on areas that they lack...whether it be handball, kicking to teamates, shots on goal etc etc, rather than in their spare time walk around playing Golf for 4 hours enjoying themself? was set up a bit by footy panel on radio, and did talk it down later... though i think he has a point we see it every week poor skills, what do you think?

Work to your strengths...you're either a footballer-athlete or an athlete-footballer. Working on weaknesses in a game like football often leads to a player losing their "special ability", and as a result becoming just another "all round player".

If you're strong, fast and have good hands, you dont need a good kick because the coach should realise your strengths and make sure the gameplan uses them...always have someone with good footskills running by the weak kickers. AFL is becoming more strategic and coaches are realising that working to each players strength rather than making all players well rounded is often a much better tactic.

Case in point: west coast 2005-2006 clearance pattern - hard ball get by one of judd, kerr, cousins handball out NEARLY ALWAYS to fletcher, dishes straight away to any of judd, kerr, cousins (one of the 2 that didnt go in), they dish out to the 3rd of judd, kerr, cousins who is already running at near full pace. Fletcher is used for his strength, balance and his hands but isnt expected to kick, create or burst away, is just a linkman. They knew his strengths.

Similarly we should be looking at this in the future:

Hard ball get by tambling, foley, cotchin, handball out to...say...coughlan/johnson/tuck, quick handball to tambling, foley or cotchin, the third of which is running by for the receive. Its simple. It works.
