I seem to recall that in 2007 the players had some sort of ban on going out drinking and partying during the season, which must have made their recovery a lot easier and their performance on match days a lot better. I don't get out much in Melbourne, but a close and reliable source - in fact someone from this board - has indicated to me that the last time they went out they saw Byrnes, Mumford, Stokes, Simpson, Varcoe etc all on the gas, and apparantly Mumford was in all sorts. Is this the professional approach that will win us a flag in 09? I think not.

As long as they are only having two or three, I can't see a big problem with it. Footballers need to live as well, and the team building nature of a few beers together shouldn't be underestimated..

If its anymore than that, then questions need to be asked IMO.

I hope stokes was hitting the piss before last nights game, it would be the only thing to excuse him of his performance;)

A "reliable source" would that be the bloke who knows a bloke who knows a distant relative to one of the players uncles?

Why bother starting crap threads like this for crying out loud.

It's actually someone on this board. Why bother starting threads like this? Maybe because my membership dollars pay their salaries, and these guys are paid to be professional athletes. Where better to discuss something like this?

Name names dipwad or STFU

I don't really want to betray their trust at the moment, but the next time I talk to them I'll check and see if they'd be OK with it. I don't care what flogs think about me, but I think this person does, so I'll just make sure it's all ok. Rest assured though, players are running round on the piss. Not good enough.

Then discuss "facts" and not pointless rumours from "reliable sources?"

yep mates have seen varcoe out on the piss. Also have heard hawkins spends a bit of time at the TAB, don't think he is drinking when there

So professional athletes aren't allowed to drink?

Is that what you girlfriend looked like when she put the angel wings on? It's not my problem you don't want to accept facts.

What facts have you stated?
"I know someone who saw them."
That's someone's opinion, not a fact

was this the same person that said Joel Corey wants to go back to Perth:rolleyes:

I've got no problems with them going out for drinks. They are young men after all. It's about timing - if it's three or four nights before the game it's a problem. Saturday night after a Saturday night, for instance, they can let their hair down.

Err... I'm probably gonna cop shit for this, but the source is me. I mentioned it to BBC after seeing them out after the Melbourne game at Skilled Stadium. Was a bit shocked when I saw an incredibly drunk Mumford - I don't care if they drink, but I thought getting blind drunk hours after a game (especially that shit effort) ended was pretty unprofessional. Especially if they have to get up early for a recovery session in the morning!

I would just like to state that I dont respect Eliiza enough not to blab anything she tells me...

Last night she told me that sometimes (well more often than not) she pretends her bf is Shagga and has started using her left hand for diddle sessions out of respect for the young man.

Facts!

Actually saw Mumford say in an interview that he was going off the drink for the rest of the season a few weeks (months?) ago. Hope that was after the Melbourne game.

Don't like the way people get all holier than thou with our players. These guys won our only premiership for the last 40 years and for that reason I'll cut them and Bomber some slack.

The bottom line is fans from all clubs don't care a bit about the players. They just want them to win. If they got smashed every night and won the premiership no-one would care. Hawthorn and West Coast supporters didn't care what certain players were on when they won the premiership. And they don't care what happens when their careers are over. People have to realise that its not all about them and whether they feel good when we win. Players are people with lives and they can do what they want to with them.

After their 150th anniversary match i would find it odd if they didn't want to go out and celebrate. I know when i drink it doesn't affect what i can or can't do 7 days later so i don't see why it would affect their football abilities that long after. I doubt they suffer from 7 day hang overs.

O well, it sounds like you guys are happy that our players are out on the town ruining their health, which is what they're paid big money to keep at a high standard. Enjoy mediocrity.
