1) Kade Simpson - once again showed why IMHO he should have been made joint vice-captain. Was absolutely outstanding, kicking goals on the run from long range when we really needed them. His second goal effectively halted all the momentum the Eagles had when they had brought the margin back to 7 points in the final quarter

2) Paul Bower - some may be surprised, but I think he played a key role for us in the final quarter. Once particular circumstance sticks out where he marked the ball in the defensive 50, and instead of slowing the play down like the rest of our players had, he played on, ran down the middle, and 2 handballs later Simpson kicked the goal to extend the lead to 13 points and kill off the Eagles' momentum. He took the game on and attacked the ball when the game was in the balance and I think it shows the mental strenght of the guy

3) Chris Judd - you could tell how badly he wanted to win this game. When the game was in the balance, he was charging through the packs, trying so hard to break through. Most of the time he couldn't, but you could see how hard he was trying. Then in the end he finally broke through, got a handball off to Gibbs, who then kicked the sealer. It was a shame actually because you could see how bad Judd wanted to break through completely so he could be the one to kick the winning goal. The Eagle's player just got hold of his shirt

I thought these 3 were vital for us in the final quarter, and all lifted their game a notch when needed. Perhaps Paul Bower has a some leadership skills hidden inside him...

Judd definitely, but that is to be expected, it's the one's you don't expect and I reckon it was:

Simmo - he was shocking in the first quarter and really turned it around
Stevo - really had a crack in the 3rd when we were getting into old habits and I was throwing beer bottles against brick walls!
Eddie Betts - a good ordinary player who stood up.

I think Stevens was excellent the whole game. But didn't go any better in the 4th than other quarters. He was awesome in all of them. Whereas I thought Simpson, Judd and Bower all specifically lifted their game in the final quarter and found an extra mile. Judd said in a channel 7 interview shown at half time that he wanted to be known as a play who influenced games and stood up at the right time, he definately did that.

Josh Kennedy really stood up, he showed us why he's such a highly rated player, and easily the best young KPP prospect in the AFL.

He really is showing that Carlton's KPP development team is a laughing stock

Getting a career defining rocket up the clacker all the way back to WA can motivate anyone with potential.

Juddy goes alright...

Juddy goes just fine! ;)

Agree with Juddy, Bower , Simpson (after a rubbish 1st half!), Stevo and Eddie being the ones who stood up when the game was in the balance in the last. Think Bentick should be added to the list. His tackling and defensive work throughout the 2nd half when we were being smashed in the clearances was important. :thumbsu:

I agree with Bower as he was one that decided that teh game had to be taken on. We started to shut up shop in the thrird quarter and no one was taking any risks or providing any run from our back half until he decded to that resulted in Simmo's goal.

Bower with more game time and an increased level of confidence would be almost our most improved player this year (apologies to Eddie).

Fev goes alright. Waite has proven to be more than handy as a CHF, CHB & even FB. Bower & Jamison have developed nicely this season (Bower gave Travis Cloke a spanking 3 weeks ago & Jamison towelled up McKinley on Friday night).

Do you know why Kennedy got so much of the ball on Friday night? The Eagles' players were kicking it to him. Do you know why the Eagles' players were kicking it to him? McKinley was getting badly beaten by Jamison. Lynch is a dud, who was moving up to the centre to get kicks & Jaymie Graham is an absolute 'spud'. While Kennedy was at Carlton, even though we were poorly performed, we would constantly kick the ball to Fev, Fisher or Waite. Kennedy was always an afterthought. Not because he wasn't any good, but because Fev, Fisher or Waite were better.

What Kennedy displayed on Friday night, is what he had shown on occasions while playing for the Bullants & also what he showed in his 2nd game for us (Round 7, 2006 v Essendon) for which he got a Rising Star nomination. Kennedy is going to look good this season (& beyond) because he will be the go to man in the Eagles' forward line, because their forward line is so devoid of talent.

Nah, not surprised at all - you're spot on! Has come on very nicely thank you very much! Must admit thet he is often a lot more effective than he looks - he often motors along like an inebriated giraffe but somehow now manages to pick the right option just in the nick of time!

Thought Stevens was stiff not to make your list, after watching the replay again I think he just shaded Carazzo as our best player overall on the night.

Agree with Bower but thought Jamison was good as was Betts and Bentick was very damaging and creative with some great sweeping handballs from the clinches to get us out and running, great vision reminded me a bit of Diesel!

that is a good way to describe Betts. I have been a critic of his and maintain that he will never be a top line player. But he has had best season by a mile and has been quite clean with his disposal in critical situations this year

Could not include Simpson on my list. His first half was probably the worst half of football I have seen him play, especially considering we were under little pressure.

Stevens was the man for me. His drive and penetrating kicks kept us afloat in the third quarter. He took some heavy knowcks as well which hopefully is a sign that he is gaining confidence after the injury.

Judd fought hard to the end even though he was exhausted...just kept willing himself to contests.

Bower and to a lesser degree Waite also stood tall when it counted.

Agree. I honestly think both the Eagles and Carlton will benefit from the Judd trade. Carlton got an experienced player, who can stand up when the game needs to be won, and who will greatly help the development of our youngsters with the link on effect Judd getting the number 1 tag will have. Whilst West Coast got 2 gun kids and a pick 20 who could be good too

I always maintained that Carlton were screwing up the development of JK. Too often they would kick it over his head to Fev who was double teamed. Fev was always their main focus, and JK couldn't get into the game because players wouldn't even look to him. Now that he plays at the Eagles who have a terrible forwardline, he will get a lot more opportunities to show what he can do. Im real happy for JK that he's playing well so far in the games he's played this year, and I really do think that both the Eagles and Carlton will win out of the trade. Carlton needed leadership and experience, not more young kids

Mate bite ur tongue.. Jammo is a developing KPP and is lookin unreal down back! I reckon they've done a great job with him...
