Been meaning to get to this after a few comments on who is and who is not performing at the moment.

Again, supercoach isn't the be all and end all on player performance - but it is a reasonable measure of 'output'.

Did a comparison from last year to this year SC scores and took a differential. The list below shows all players whose output has dropped by 10% or more from last year.
(NB: I tried to take out games where players were sub affected or injury affected)

To me, Wright/Jacobs/Mackay/Danger/Vince are probably the big ones. Those guys being down has meant Walker/Petrenko are impacted and I'm not super stressed about DT getting a touch or two less a week - but he hasn't been as dominant as he was last year and there isn't a better option anyway. Definitely need to shake up the 5 I've called out there and get more from them.

-10%Matthew Wright
-11%Sam Jacobs
-12%Jared Petrenko
-20%Jason Porplyzia
-20%David MacKay
-21%Daniel Talia
-22%Patrick Dangerfield
-23%Taylor Walker
-24%Bernie Vince
At the other end of the spectrum the following guys have all show > 10% improvement in output.
Besides Dougie (well done son) that's pretty much our back 6 (minus DT) who are seeing far too much of the ball!

26%Brodie Smith

Clearly shows who has improved and who hasn't.
With us getting flogged in the clearances & contested ball, I found these stats.

Thomo - Centre clearances yesterday = 1, ave for the year = 1.4, stopages 2, ave for the year 4
Danger - Centre clearances yesterday = 0, ave for the year =1, stopages 3, ave for the year 3.6

Can we afford to have both these leadership players contributing 2.4 centre clearances per match & 7.6 clearances at stopages??

With Jacobs struggling, we need guys who can read the ball off hands in the ruck & then do something constructive when they have it. Time for a change in the clearances maybe?
Or is it still to early in the season to make assumptions ?

Nice analysis and confirms what we've all known, our midfield is killing us

Porps, MacKay and Vince especially need to step it up. I forgive Danger because he's been not too bad and is obviously carrying an injury which is really limiting his output right now.

Hendo up wtf? Did he do nothing last year?
Interesting in DT points Jacobs averages about the 4th most for us this year
Henderson started last year playing in defence. This year he's playing further up the ground, which may account for much of his difference.

Brown's stats should probably be ignored, given that he only played a statistically insignificant number of games last year. That said, his 2013 has been a vast improvement on what he showed last year.

Thanks Allefgib, interesting reading. But...

Sorry... I know I bag Douglas in every thread. But how does he get a pat on the back?

He's not a kid like Brown. He hasn't come back from a major injury like Otten. He's not being fed more of the ball in our under siege defence or changed roles. So any "improvement" this year you have to ask what was he doing last year? There is no reason for his figures to go up.

Unless we're saying he absolutely stunk it up last season and has reverted to expected standard this season.

Which I'm fine with, but it would have been nice to have some support last season :)

Really? Douglas is kicking arse this year in a midfield that is struggling. I'm not a fan, but he's a player managing to stand tall while knee-deep in shit.

You may have been too busy watching all of those players rolling off their opponents into the backlines Carl, but part of the improvement in Dougies numbers has been the change in his role from predominantly being a high half forward last year to spending much more time in the guts.

The big question is why Patty and Rory have been spending so little time in the centre square despite the rogering we have been getting in centre clearances. Is this part of the great new game plan that you referred to early last season? Is Sando trying to develop Patty into a forward that has an occasional run on the ball?

Maybe Danger was injured for his first three years?

Neil have you been interviewed by ASADA yet?

apart from winning a B&F

you need a new alias, this one is getting boring
Didn't make the top 10 in 2011 or 2012

But, everyone's right. A one word summary of his last four seasons would be:

2010 - good
2011 - good
2012 - good
2013 - good

It's all good.

Mmmm ....Douglas likely leading the club B&F at this point ;) .....can't see Dangerfield being in front given midfield performances

This type of thought shits me. Comparing the performances of a heavily tagged and targetted player to a player the opposition wouldn't spend 2 minutes on. Let's swap roles, Danger gets to run free and Douglas is tagged with a sore knee, who is winning the B&F then?

I reckon Rory would be in front of Douggy in the B & F at present. It is good to see D playing so well. If we can get the rest of the midfield back where it was last year and Douggy remains the same, we'll kill them all.

But we're dealing with facts, not hypotheticals and reasons ;)

I think Dangerfield can only do so much at times when our midfield is being destroyed, we see that when everything is working like it was in the Doggies and Crows game Dangerfield booted 4 goals, I still love him to bits and admire him even though he has had a bit of a slow start to the season. Still a gun and my favourite Crows player.

the elephant in the room is ~ why are so many players so badly out of form and/or down on last year? questions need to be asked of the fitness team and the pre season strategy because whatever the intention, most of our best players are as flat as a tack.

is it a coincidence that this coincided with Schwerdt leaving and Poulos taking over? you just have to look at Port to see the impact a world class fitness guy can have (and conversely how badly their previous guy was stinking it up).
