I WAS there.

The drunk guy.

Could have been one of 22,000 people though!!!

Must say I did back Richo in to boot more goals than K. Kingsley!!

And good that we taught you a lesson in negativity, which was well learned!

:)

Henry is not great. As I've said before, he is the best we've got.
All you people knocking him, provide us with a solution. Not just 'oh, we'll go after Tarrant/Fev/whoever', tell us, fair dinkum, what we would need to give up to secure one of those players, and then - HONESTLY - if the loss of Bartel/Corey/whoever/whatever in order to secure a replacement for Henry would be worth it? IMO, only for Pavlich, Hall, Tredrea or Brown - blokes who at their best are untouchable matchwinners, at the average are better than most, and at their worst are good contributors.

I have sat back as everyone (except Jack) has been defending H, but can no longer be silent. Unfortunately if there is anyone left on this board who still thinks H is worth persisting with you must be dreaming. H is not and will not be the forward we are looking for.
I do not think he is the answer to all our prayers. For godsake's, it was his 1st full year playing in one of the hardest positions on the ground.
He will never b a 40 goal+ player, but he could easily be a 20 goal player, taking 5 or more marks a game, and making a contest.

And anyway, who else would ya wanna of put at CHF this year????? Name 1 other player that coulda played at CHF and done a better job? realisticly?? anyone??

The silence is deafening. There is no one else.

Play Tom Lonergan at centre half forward next year and don't drop him for the whole year. If he was given the same dream run that Henry got, he wouldn't do any worse. It's ok to sit back and say we have nobody else, but there is no harm in trying. Don't come back and say Toms form in the VFL does not warrant this chance as Henry never set the VFL alight.

NOT sure, but you may be better off with the ABC's Dan Lonergan than either Tom Lonergan or Playfair.
Why not play Ottens at CHF and make him earn those $1000s he gets paid. Or are his injury worries worse than what he and the club make out.
Liken his situation to Jeff Hogg being offloaded by the Tiges to Fitzroy. Neither did much once leaving. Ottens has youth on his side, but he is injured a hell of a lot more than he ought to be for my liking.
But will agree with you Outback Jack because you are a wise man, give Tommy Lonergan a crack and give him the chance to cement the position.
Said it before and will say it again: Playfair....no good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

But why would we do that after putting a year of development into H? You still don't get it do you? They've been grooming H for the role and so far he's only a small way into his development in the position. I can see (and I'm guessing so can the club) that he's shown promise, is likely to improve and is the best prospect we have at the moment to play the position in 2006.

Why don't you play Nathan Brown at CHF next season and make him earn all those $$$? Oh that's right, that would be playing him out of position.

I'M sure Browny would adapt quite well to CHF, as he would anywhere on the ground. He's like Deakin University in May: "All class". And I'm sure he wouldn't be lining up on the likes of Harley or Scarlett there. If it works at full forward with guys like the Hawks' Williams, I'm sure it could work elsewhere.
If you don't think Ottens can play CHF, you are kidding yourself. He's done it before. And let's not start about who out of Browny or big Sticky has earned the dollars paid for them. I'll guarantee you this, Browny will poll extremely well come Brownlow time and will be well in the mix, if not leading it, at the time he went down with an injury. :)

Well, perhaps my point hasn't been taken. You wouldn't play Brown there (as we wouldn't play Ottens) there because:

1. He isn't physically the right body shape and doesn't have the playing attributes of someone you want at CHF (Tall, mobile and a good mark - mainly); and

2. He could be better used elsewhere.

And no, let's not start on who has earned their big dollars. The only thing I will say is that the hypocricy of Richmond supporters going on about Ottens salary when they bought Brown from the Dogs is amazing.

The big H will be an outstanding player next year and many more too come

I've said all along, Playfair will be a very, very good CHF!

He's only 22 I think! Big fellas hit their peak at around 25-27! He was grabbing games by the scruff of the neck before his jaw injury!

Watch out for a big season from 'H' in 2006!

Where is it written that you have to be a particular body shape to play a certain position. If you played Gary jnr at CHF would the opposing team still play Trent Croad or Matt Maguire on him. Is Cameron Mooney a ruckmans build? Was Leigh Matthews a full forwards build. Was Peter Daicos a full forward. Anybody can play any position as long as the team plays it to there advantage.

Bollocks. Show me one example of a successful CHF that wasn't of the archetypical build. There's a reason - it's one of the most physically demanding positions on the field and you need someone who's going to be strong in the contest, take contested marks and channel the team's play to goal through them.

OH, it's true! It's true!

Like your thinking Jack. Threw it out there yesterday. Nathan Brown could line up at CHF (and probably has) and you would use it to your advantage. The difference is it wouldn't be Scarlett or harley lining up on him.

I used the example of Williams from the Hawks. The great full forwards like Lockett, Hudson, Hall, Lloyd, Roach etc. are all talls, but this guy is effective.

Players these days need to be versatile. I suggest if Playfair is persisted with at CHF and has no other obvious strings to his bow, he is not in for the long term!!! :)

To all the Henry bashers out there please watch a tape of the Adelaide game where Henry was in the process of dismantling the much vaunted Adelaide defence when he had his jaw broken. Also watch the Collingwood when Henry was a late exclusion and see how much we lacked direction without the big guy.

Henry has improved every year he has been at the club, he is athletic, tall and hardworking to suggest he play anywhere other than CHF for the next 5 years is adsurd. Yes he was poor in the second half of the year but he is a developing player and young talls are not know for their consistency. Hansen has not had a kick for the second half of the year, would we not take him? he will probably be a Premiership CHF in two weeks.

I hope this thread is now over.

Thankyou.

im sik of all u supposed 'supporters' bagging our players... henry is a young developing player and most weeks does his job exceptionally well... his 2005 season woz a colossal improvement on his 2004 and if he continues this he surely will play a huge part in teh cats' future... stop bagging him and SUPPORT ur team coz thats wot u r SUPPORTERS

I'll defend Jack's (and others) right to criticise players until the end of time.

I disagree with him strongly on H, but we can't make this board full of sycophantic bull******** apologists.

I have full faith in H and think he'll prove a few people wrong, just like Jarad Rooke has done.

Agree Phat.

Here are Henry’s stats for the past 3 years. A long with what we've all seen, it clearly displays that he’s improving.

Averages (possessions, marks, tackles, goals)
2003 - 4.5, 2.0, 1.0, 0.2
2004 - 7.2, 3.7, 0.7, 0.4
2005 - 9.5, 4.4, 2.0, 0.9

If he keeps improving like he has in 2006 he could average 12 or so possessions, 6 or 7 marks, kick 25-30 goals. He will also have intensive training on his kicking and will gain more confidence in backing himself rather than trying to dish off. He’ll be handy.

Is it cousin Jared or are you his manager.

Will that be the same intense training that Kent Kingsley has had over the past 5 years.

If you think players can’t improve their kicking, especially at the age of 22, you’re wrong. You only have to look at Stewart Loewe and Nick Holland (who were far worse kicks than Henry at his age) but finished their careers as quite solid kicks of the ball. Kingsley is the exception rather than the rule and besides, most of his problems are in his head rather than with his technique.
