Most likely, it's super annoying having to switch settings when i decide to use a different console on the day just to have an open nat.

I also think it's a possible signal strength issue - if i hook the console up to the room next to where the router is it's generally less problematic.
A good router and positioning make a massive difference to download performance.

What router do you have and how far from your playstation? Any walls etc in the way?

If it's a fair distance and you can't run Ethernet cable you might look at a set of Ethernet over power adapters so that you can set up a wired connection through your power points.

Linksys e3000 - my game consoles are in the lounge room 80% of the time and about 15-20 meters from the room where i keep the computer, modem and router. There are 2 to 2 and a half walls in the way. When i am on the kitchen bench which is adjacent to the doorway of the room where the computer is setup, i sometimes get a good download transfer rate.... sometimes i don't (the "don't" is very rare though).

I've been through 4 different routers since 2008, i prefer wired gaming where possible but if i have other visitors over i don't trust anyone to NOT trip over the ethernet cable i have from the lounge room to the computer room haha - last thing i need is someone to trip over it and the console goes flying OR at worst i have a disc inside and the disc gets wrecked.

I started off with a d-link brand router and didn't know that it was bad until a few months later, i had two different Belkin routers that were pretty good.... one stopped working after a while and the next one refused to forward ports necessary to keep an open NAT for gaming.

I'm using an ASUS RT-N66U router and it's exceptional as far as range and performance goes.

In your situation though I'd look at something like a Netcomm NP505 powerline adapter kit - plug your console into the powerline adapter you have an Ethernet cable going from adapter to console same as a power cord - if you've got multiple consoles, smart TV etc you might look at hooking up a network switch from the adapter

Just tried this and the difference was exponential.

Thank you, good sir!
Thank who ever gave me the idea to do it :p

Someone from here a few months ago, cant remember who though.

If you have foxtel use their ethernet over power adapter. Thats what I did.

Have an older Foxtel box (the one first given during the original analog to digital change over), never bothered to get iq so i don't have a foxtel power adapter. Looked on the foxtel website, it seems to be the same make and model as the Netcomm NP505 powerline adapter that was recommended by blackshadow earlier in the thread. I'll investigate further and see if i can improve things.

How much longer is it going to be before the new free games come out? 4th of June already.

Yeah just gone onto the store now to grab them and I have to say looking at the list I'm more disappointed that I thought I'd be. I've been playing through some classics on my PS3 in the last few months and getting the backlog done but this month is just week. Instead of the great games like Bioshock Infinite, Payday 2, dmc, Borderlands 2, Metro Last Light etc there's NBA and Lone Survivor (which is terrible by the way). That's after recently giving us the terrible PES too.

I guess Sony just spoiled us too much in the past and they couldn't keep it up every week.

You got all of those new gaming purchases to keep you busy anyway. :)

I'm still disappointed that I bought 2K a month ago and now it's on PS Plus, on the bright side this average lineup will give me time to go through some games in my backlog.

Did you even play PES?

I have played PES games in the past and I used to enjoy them immensely.

I'll probably check it out once I finish all of my uni shit. Right now I'm too busy to play the games that I've actually payed for :(
