Well, what a load of crap. The following points:-

1. 10 points down at the last change and going with a 3-4 goal breeze - you would think you would have the desire to ensure that you outperformed the opposition but no, not the Crows. Our season is in the toilet thanks to the last three weeks.

2. Can someone please explain why you would have one of your best midfielders at half back? The thing that has been exposed for some time is how we are getting outplayed by the opposition coach. Mark Williams has outplayed Ayres for the last 7 showdowns. Shirley on Burgoyne - amazing more damage was not done.

3. Do we know how to run the ball once we get 70-80 metres out of goal. We seem to hit a brick wall at about this distance and stop running.

4. Dumb footballers - we have more than our fair share of this quota. Stenglein/Shirley/Perrie (why oh why do something silly in your forward line)

Sorry, I can accept what has happened in the last 3 weeks and anyone who does needs a good dose of reality.

PS : It will be interesting to see what sort of crowds they get next week given AAMI stadium members will have to shell out for two matches and I for one will never go to a Power game.

No one is bagging Shirley. I think we all agree the match-up was complete crapolla.

I wasn't getting stuck into him (for christ sakes I'm a local Eagles supporter- still trying to come to terms how they didn't score at all in the second half yesterday). He can't choose the matchup however someone somewhere ballsed up.

What a fu*cked up weekend for yours truly.....

Agree with most of what you say though i thought you was a bit hard on Shirley who in my opinion did not disgrace himself & not sure about Burgoyne's stats but i did not think he done much more than take a couple of marks & kick 2 goals,

We are not as skillful as the paps & their 2nd tier players are close to what our 1st tier group would be if you take out the Roo, McLeod & a couple of others & as for Ayresy being outcoached by Williams well i think that Gary was a bit light on having the right cattle out on the ground & whether that's to do with selection or not i'm not sure,

But i can now understand why Kerley labeled 6 or 7 of our players as not having the footy smarts it was pretty bloody obvious today,

Kane, you hit the nail on the head. We're just not good enough. The result of today's game was clear, the only query was the margin. We fought hard and competed well, the effort was there, hence we got close. But we were never going to beat an elite side like the Power. And Kirky, you pointed out a few of the reasons why quite accurately.

I don't accept mediocrity but you have to accept your limitations.

"McLeod played on the half forward line not across halfback"
Thats pretty much what Ayres said in the press conference.

Well Im dumbfounded.
Its a strange place to run off when your'e playing at half forward
I guess Ill have to hand in my Coaches hat.

WHY wouldnt he start off the half forward line?
WHY wouldnt he be thrown into the middle even at the start of the third qtr?

I think McLeod had 7 possessions to half time?
Our handling of macca sucks:mad:

If there's anything that makes Shirley a dumb footballer it's his tendancy to want to handball too often. Although he had a few friends in that regard.

Anyone remember this passage of play late in the second quarter?

Ball spills off the pack in Port's forward line, McLeod picks up...
He gives quick handpass to Torney...
Handpass to Shirley who runs forward into space...
Handpass forward to Stenglein...
Stenglein turns back facing the Port goals, handpasses back to the running Shirley...
Shirley takes the pass running out of the defensive fifty...
Shirley takes on the Dew the tackler and suceeds...
Handpass to Reilly who has nowhere to go, manages to shrug off Stevens' tackle and handpass to Stenglein...
Stenglein takes two steps forward, thinks about a kick, decides to handball instead but can't get it away because Dew is right on his tail...
Holding the ball!

At least half a dozen disposals and we move no more than about 30 metres. Talk about piss-farting around with it!

I think my cries at the time were something like, "Kick it. Kick it! KICK IT! KICK THE @#$%ING THING! OH @#$% IT!"

My thoughts exactly! I think one major difference between some of our players and the players of top teams like Port, is that we handball to 'get rid of the ball' whilst others handball to advance down the ground.

Unbelievable, Exactly what I said!! ;)

As for remembering it, how could you forget it!!

Had to be the stupid play of the day.

God How bad was Stenglein today. He was so slow to get rid of the ball and got caught twice.

Am I the only one that thinks he hasn't had nowhere near as good a season as he did last year?????
I agree. It's sometimes difficult to assess how well a tagger is performing. But offensively he just isn't getting as much of the ball this year.

However I thought today was one of his better games for a while.

My thoughts exactly - and anyone who does is an imbecile.

This is what I was saying in regards to accepting mediocrity/we are in danger of becoming Norwood.

We've pi$sed this season down the drain for no good reason... Dave will say "hey we're still alive... don't be so pessimistic" but if we do get past West Coast - which I'm certain we will - we'll book an away date versus Port, Sydney, Brisbane or Collingwood.

Yes we can perform a 97/98-esque miracle or four... but we shouldn't have to. We should've been looking forward to a tough qualifying final and a double chance... not an uphill climb against Lance Armstrong.

Yes!!

I think I may have actually disgraced myself today by setting a record for the number of times the F... word was used in a corporate box!! :o

Hehe.

I just hope for our sake you won't have to break your own record next weekend! :p

I agree. Listening to the number of Crows supporters calling up the radio and saying how we have to flags and all that crap. WHO CARES?????? That was 5 f*cking years ago. We cannot live in the past. We have to look to the future and thing how can we get another one.

The most disappointing thing for me is that 3 weeks ago we were 2nd. All this year we have been the side that has never been blown out of the water and was playing some really good footy. In a space of 3 weeks we have f*cked up our entire year. How many of us said after the St.Kilda, Collingwood and Hawthorn games would come back to bite us on the backside. This is what really sh*ts me about this year. Its the fact that players started to believe all the media hype during pre-season and they underestimated their opposition as well as losing games when we should have had the opposition well and truely on toast by 3QTR time.

IMHO, this has been one wasted year. Last year without the likes of Carey, Burns and Perrie we managed to win 15 games relaying on the likes of Fitzgerald, Schell and Beinke to provide a contest. We really have screwed this year up and for the life of me I cannot see us making the prelim final.

And one other thing, we have gone to Carey concious. Plan A: Kick it to Carey, Plan B: Kick it to Carey, Plan C: check plan A and B.

When we got Carey all we could hear out of the AFC is that he would be just another player in our structure and he would not be the heart and soul of the forward line. What a load of crap. Its the trap that we have fallen into and becoming a one predictable unit that gets figured out very quickly and the coaching staff that is not imaginative enough to come up with plans B and C.

I just think its too early for post mortems.

Yes, we've thrown away winnable games in recent weeks, we've done so all season.

But we're still in there with a shout. So I'm remaining hopeful.

BTW, Stiffy, I don't really agree that we're too Carey conscious. We've had plenty of forward line options this year.

We have options but 9 times out of 10 we will go to Carey. Its too bloody predictable.

I say 90% of our attack today was directed at Carey. We just kick it to him even if he is not in the best position to get it and this P I S S E S Me O F F big time.

Think about that Stiffy.

What you're really doing is not condemning those kicking the ball or Carey, because he gives a hell of a contest.

Where are the crumbers front and square feeding off of that?? It should be a crumbers paradise.
