every century year is not a leap year, except fourth century year. so 1200, 1600, 2000, 2400, 2800 are leaps years. 1800, 1900, 2100, 2200 were not. Having just experienced 2000 as a leap year, not many around at the moment are aware of this rule of the calendar.

It's all to do with corrections in the calendar. Every knows it's not exactly 365 days to circle the sun completely, but neither is it exactly 1461 days to circle it four times.

Found an even sweeter one to do with the Gregorian Calendar.

No century will ever start on a Sunday, Wednesday or Friday. The reason for this is the Gregorian Calendar completes its cycle every 400 years so if you add 400 years to any date, the day of the week will be the same.

Jan 1, 1201 is a Monday. Jan 1, 1301 is a Saturday. Jan 1, 1401 is a Thursday. Jan 1, 1501 is Tuesday. Jan 1, 1601 is back to a Monday.

Also there is debate over whether a century starts on xx00 or xx01 - But I think the general consensus is it starts on xx01 (1801, 1901, 2001 etc,.) even though we tend to celebrate the 1999/2000 new year more than the 2000/2001. Need to remember there is no year 0 in the Gregorian Calendar.
