He'd be a risk. We all know about the off-field stuff and he's not in Freo's best 22. That said, he can play either end (even if he doesn't kick many goals as a forward) and is a contested marking specialist. If the club think he'll be better for moving away from WA and won't cause any off-field drama then it's worth it. It's really their call.

Despite the off-field stuff, he would be a good pickup. He is definately in the Dockers best 22, and is outstanding as CHB. The Dockers have plenty of good key position players, and this guy is underrated. Would be good to play at CHB so that Grant could go forward and be rested for games next season.

Pick him up I say. The Dockers have a reputation of giving away some of their best players which they didn't rate. eg. McPhee, Simmonds.

I'm a harsh judge but I don't rate them either.
To me McPhee has done precious little after his 1 good season but Essendon players are always talked up and especially blonde ones.
Wallace believes Simmonds is in AA form, maybe he is but there are least 3 or 4 better rucks in the league. Its taken him a long time and Wallace has to talk him up to justice his 5 year contract.

To get Polak we will have to trade someone of similar quality...Now, some people may take me down for this, but I think Hargraves for Polak maybe an option. Hopefully, we wouldn't have to give away a draft pick and I think we'd be able to cover the loss of Hargraves in our backline, especially if Polak ends up playing down there.

I know its a risk to take Polak, but if the dogs are up for it I trust the coaching staffs opinion. I just thought I'd throw this up as an option if the club wanted him.

McPhee was rated - but to get a quality player like Headland, we had to give quality away. We also got pick 55 in that rather convoluted deal, which we used to pick up Ryan Crowley, who has turned out to be pretty good for us. Headland and Crowley for McPhee and Brennan (Brisbane) is a break even IMO. Crowley has only played about 20 games and Brennan is inconsistent so they are both still developing. Headland is finally playing the type of footy that we have known he is capable of - in great form at the mo.

Simmonds was rated - he was a VC, and was offered a 4 year deal to get him to stay, but on the last day of the trade period Wallet came up with the 5 year deal that he's now on at Richmond, so he packed his bags and left. I am more than happy to have got Blackie back (we have loads of talls, not too many quick smalls) and to have Sandilands and JLo in the ruck, plus we have a young, very tall, very agile ruckman developing in the WAFL, so while having Simmonds would be great, we are doing okay without him...

Bellie and McLeod were back in 1995, so you can hardly hold that over the curent admin, and Clement desperately wanted to play under Malthouse, at a club with "history". Didn't have the balls to hang around and be part of a player group who could create history. Besides that was a Damian Drum trade.... so that hardly counts either... ;)

Our best deals of recent years have been Leigh Brown to Roos for Pick 13 (Schammer 2002), and Steven Koops to you blokes for Pick 19 (David Mundy 2003... :thumbsu: ).

Anyway, no need for me to tell the truth, the myth of Freo's poor trading is still strong and people will believe whatever they want to believe... and really, meh. ;) I actually can't believe I just wrote all that anyway... 5 minutes I'll never get back - and a couple of minutes reading time for you guys...

But back on topic.... I reckon Polak needs a change of scenery. He is a very talented player who away from his old high school mates may very well flourish and play some great footy. I watched a copy of the Freo v WC Rd 6 game last night and Polak was outstanding. I would be very sad to see him go as there is no doubting the talent is there, but for whatever reason, while young talls like Johnson, Mundy, Murphy have come on great under CC, Polak's development has stalled. He's playing good footy in the WAFL, but with these three just mentioned, plus Pav, McPharlin and JLo all ahead of him, he just can't break into the team despite being named as an emergency the last couple of weeks.

The Dogs could do worse than make a play for him.

I for one wouldn't be happy trading Hargrave for Polak. Hargie is an important piece of our backline and it would be a case of getting rid of someone playing well in the HOPE of getting someone better.

I think getting Polak is a risk, but is worth pursuing if the price is right. He was a high draft pick and at his best is very good.
Maybe Skipper is the right trade, with say a low draft pick.

Hargrave gives us flexibility- he can play on a short or tall, can go forward and is a good link man. He also has a bit of mongrel which I like.
Don't trade Hargrave!

We couldnt go for polak AND aker, so i hope we go for Polak. The type of player that he is, is exactly what we are missing (a KPP who can take contested marks and is versatile).

We cant rely on the fact that Darcy is coming back from 2 reco's, williams hasnt played a game yet, Walsh could very well be delisted at the end of the year, and tiller, mwest and wells will be YEARS away from making any impact.

We need a player like polak. God help us if hargrave or harris got long term injuries next year. we would be screwed.

Polak may not be the JESUS we are waiting for, but at least he is a READY MADE player for our team next year, unlike our other talls.

He won't be at Freo next year so why would you care if he ends up at the kennel or not?

Trading Shaggy for him would defeat the purpose of getting him in the first place.

Our first pick plus Skipper.

I think he will stay put to be honest. I'm not sure what i would expect from you guys in return for him if he were to be traded though. I would say ray but i dont rate him that highly at the minute. 1st pick and something maybe, but not Skipper.

I like the idea of the Polak for Skipper and low draft pick. Waste of time getting Aker. I'm guessing the Dockers will want a quick in and under midfielder. Perhaps Farren for Polak and pick?
I know its tough to even consider trading Farren, but we really do need KPP's.

Any other ideas?

That is one I think may cause a ripple of interest... Your first pick will be around 12-14. Skipper will never set the world on fire, but can play a bit and would be a handy player to have lurking on the list.

That said, I hope he stays, but like I said in my rather lengthy and long-winded post, a change of scenery (city) could do him the world of good.

I reckon that's not a bad one either. Not sure about us throwing in a draft pick for Ray, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in the Purple.

No way would we give Polly and a pick for Ray. In the scheme of things Polly has done more at the top level than Ray has, just not in the past 2 seasons.

The fact that Polak hasn't done anything in the past 2 seasons as you have said, would make it more likely wouldn't it?
Ray would easily make Freo's best 22 at the moment, and Polak isn't in yours. Polak would be in the Dogs best 22. So it would be win/win for each club.
The loss would actually be for the Dogs as Farren is in their best 22, unlike Polak for Freo.

Easily? Not sure about that. Freo are doing pretty well at the moment and competition for spots is hot. Who would you displace for him? Not saying he wouldn't be in there, just not sure that it's "easily" as I don't know who would be the obvious choice to get the "heave-ho". We still have Hasleby (class and experience) and Crowley (189cm, 94kg midfielder /tagger) to come back in from the team that has done Adelaide and the Saints in the last two weeks.

If Ray gets traded because the BULLDOGS want to trade him, then i will give up on the Club. If Ray goes because RAY wants to be traded that's a different story.
