WTF is with this GUY? his has honestly been one of our best players this year, has definitly stepped up to the plate, what was going on at freo? did he not like the colours :p ?

I got told off for saying why he had problems at Freo, so will probably avoid that again. Let's just say I heard couldn't resist dancing amongst the devil's harvest.

This information was directly from someone in admin, so I think the information is more reliable than 'gossip.'

It's good to see him playing well for Richmond, it's that talent I think we all knew he had but rarely saw for us.

The problem with Gutless Graham at Freo was we have a guy, McPharlin who can do the same job as Polak, and do it better consistantly. Polak was always going to be a bit of a depth player for us, but i don't think hes that bad.. you guys got him for a steal IMO.

Polak has always been a couragous player, not a gutless one. Just didn't have his head in the right place off the field.

Polak was good until he crossed paths with Croad. Croad taught Polak how to be gutless and dog a challenge - from then on he became Gutless Graham Polak.

You and your little sidekick (or is it the other way around) are the only ones I have heard call Polak gutless. Lazy and unreliable maybe, but never gutless.

I think if you go back through the posts around trading time it was posters fom Victorian clubs who thought he was useless. There were planty of us suggesting he was a bit of a rough diamond. He did have patches of great games for us. I think it was the start of 2005 he had 6 great games beofre getting injured. And I'll never forget him outmarking Alessio in his first game.

I don't know all the reasons but my mail is that like many Aboriginal players he blossoms away from home.

I also think it has a lot to do with fitness and getting a run of games under his belt.

He's a brilliant mark isn't he? And he's fearless too.

Polaks problems at Freo were not on the field, they were what he liked to get up to off the field.

No no no. Wrong.

Croad 'stole' his courage and took it to Hawthorn with him. Trent then on-traded it to Luke Ball for an All Australian spot. Luke Ball still has it but is said to be seriously considering sending it to Max Rooke in exchange for his mo' and a head that doesn't hurt when he flies on a plane.

You're very welcome wart101. Except when they're playing against us, i really enjoy seeing ex-Freo players from WA playing well when they leave us e.g.Medders. The trade was a win-win and it shows Polak as another product of the Freo area, the cradle of football in WA. Except for next week when he comes home to theatrical hostility (not too much booing, please), I hope he really helps your team and fulfills his potential.

Just keep him on a short leash, especially down St Kilda way.

hes the best player in a team that has 0 wins. he is still not playing as a KPP more of a 3rd tall who just roams around the defensive 50 assisting other defenders

he still has a long way to go to prove we made the wrong decision

I assume your referring to Polaks. There was no win-win.

Polak was a shit who wasnt prepared to do the hard work off the track and on it consistently who did the dirty on us with the trade to the Tiges.

A little niave but Freo did alot for him and it wouldnt have taken much for him to get us a fair deal.

I dont know the real ins and outs of Croads time here and the reason for him going home, but I reckon the kid had it hard here.

Traded as a messiah whilst under an anaesthetic. Two team town with a anti freo biased media. Bit of a pretty boy in the media, unless the guy was BOG week in week out he was a big poppy to cut down.

I agree , It must have been hard to have his goal/salary ratio brought up repeatedly in the media when He was in reality a 21 YO and a long way from peaking.

I for one will never diss him for wanting out.

Croad was a useless prick who was more interested in living the high life than earning his keep at FFC.

Exactly. Look at Tarrant who was much more of a potential liability, and has had more pressure on him from both sides of the nullabor.. and he hasn't put a foot wrong, becuase he hasn't gone out and bought a 2 million dollar house, spent 2 days a week in a health spa, and the remaining days (when he isn't playing football) getting his gob in the papers. Croad was an extended holiday over here, and he got paid big dollars for his trouble.

I was a Croad fan, but He dogged a contest right in front of me one night at Subi and I cut him. Same with Polak he took a strong mark and showed potential but he took a few haevy knocks and lost his bottle, he was gutless at Freo. The reason for his improved form is that Richmond have insisted he lays off his beloved weed. Pretty Boy Craod and Gutless Graham should be inducted into the Daniel Bandy Hall Of All Dogacts.

I think the major problem was something sinster that you do at night at dance parties/raves/Nightclubs if you get the drift, i think he over it now though so Good for him

He has bulked up a lot and looks to be faster. Glad he is doing well. I think the problem he had in getting the best out of himself at freo was that he was in a comfort zone of good times. It was a lifestyle where football performance was not an overwheming number one priority as it probably is now. Being traded is probably the shell shock that saved him.

Getting rid of Croad and Polak may have been a good thing for the culture at fremantle. They both had the take it easy, footy is just another facet of their young, wealthy, good looking lifestyle. Not the No. 1 priority that we demand of and remunerate handsomely for. Easy to see how young players might get the wrong ideas into their head about what makes up a professional footballers life when seeing what these guys get up to.

Just to make it clear I think they have changed their ways since leaving and it has been good for everybody all around. They now have a focus to get the most out of their short time as footballers.

Pity that is the way it had to be.

I think Connolly struggles to get the best from lazy footballers. Polak, Medhurst, Headland and Mundy would be better off under a more disciplined coach.

Thats gotta be denial to not say that losing him wasn't the wrong decision. We effectively got nothing for him.

3 years ago I was on this very board saying we should try trade Polak for Kerr. Everyone yelled me down of course. That was a realistic trade back then.

Some start arse at the pub is going to be watching a Freo game saying,"Why did you let him go?" and I'll have to listen to Commetti say "ex-docker" for the next 8 years.

I'm sick of Freo throwing up this crap. It was a mistake but a mistake made 2-years ago. Should have cut and run a lot earlier.
