was only a few pages back one poster was bragging about taking his daughter outside their 5km zones multiple times "because her happiness is more important than your grandma's life"

Was that the same guy who said it was barbaric he couldn't be with his mother on mothers day?

not sure, sounds like him

I couldnt be with my dad after his cancer surgery - there was a bloody good reason for it though.

what is the alternative?

On SM-G925I using BigFooty.com mobile app

the virus enters your body and survives in your sinus area, where your immune system doesn't work. Meaning whether you are vaccinated or have had the disease before, you can host it again and become a bigger spreader of the disease.

So the same people who will die now are the same people that will die after immunization......being the immune compromised.

so we are waiting for nothing other than a WA election

we tolerate it because the alternative is worse

and the alternative is not "its just the flu", or "its fake death numbers, and noone is actually dead because this is a deep state takeover of the world", or "the virus will disappear once we dismantle the 5G towers and charge Bill Gates with crimes against humanity"

I hear you but a vaccine will only help those that aren't immune compromised......who are the same people that covid is mild.

the same people will die after vaccination as they would today.

Given pre-existing health is a major contributor to covid deaths, should we ban fast food, cigarettes and booze? Should we mandate morning exercise? or should we all pay a price for other people's lifestyles?

perhaps we should have just isolated the at risk part of the community?

and yes people are dying. Please feel free to google India and the same thing is happening in China. In Australia we will no doubt see a rise in suicide from economic hardship.

That's a lot of words for "they are old or sick, just let them die FFS"

Personally I vote no. If we start executing the weak and vulnerable in society, we are pretty ****ed up

Those old people seem to be dying anyway?
How has this lockdown saved elderly?
Everyday Dan lists deaths in aged care...
What am i missing?

It was only a few months ago many here were saying police shouldn't break up a BLM protest in Melbourne because the risks were worth it and for a good cause.

Same clowns are now cheering on abuse of police powers.

What a joke and double standard.

that's not what I said and your position ignores what will happen after vaccination

You are ignoring facts.
People in aged care seem to be 99% of people dying from covid in Australia.
So again how has this lockdown saved them?
Does it mean masks don't work?
and countless numbers are dying earlier due to covid19. it's not only deaths that are driving dan's push to get hold of this terrible thing it's the spread of infections among all ages and the catastrophic consequences that can come if it isn't controlled. look at india and brazil. even the usa and uk where intensive care units are under severe pressure. there will be no economic recovery until the thing is controlled and anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a parrallel universe.

I understand to be careful and cautious. (Sanitize and distance)
However is hard lockdown to harsh for a place like Melbourne?
Some of the harshest measures in the world for a country that has had a low death rate.

Why are they reducing centrelink?
If they reduce it to $500 a fortnight like it was.
More people will be rioting.

here's a fact. So far 2,000 cases of COVID-19 have hit residential aged care in Australia. we have 200,000 living in residential aged care

as bad as 2,000 is, its just 1% of the sector, and doesnt include the millions who live at home still with residential support (ie carers who attend to their needs)

so isolate the aged care sector and anyone that wishes to be isolated.

and after vaccination, these same group of people will still need to be isolated. Given that's the case, are you proposing we remain in lock down forever?

we have already covered this let it rip

its not just the 200,000 in aged care accomodation and 100,000 in disability. you also have to add in at least 1 million more who are living at home and having services provided to them

and it doesnt stop there

you need to lock away:

- everyone who works in residential aged care, disability accomodation, AND aged care/disability support services
- everyone who lives in a house with someone who works in these sectors
- everyone who provides catering, maintenance, transportation, cleaning, counselling, medical, and frankly any onsite services for residential aged care and disability accomodation
- everyone who lives with someone who provides any of the above services

also everyone of those workers and their families you are locking down, it is a hard lockdown. no exit from house, no exercise, no shopping (they have to have delivered). if they need a doctor or any external support, it gets provided by the govt

and this is indefinite

this is not viable because of the sheer size of it, you will literally be locking away millions of people to Wuhan style home detention for at least a year

you say at least a year but that's not correct. This will persist after vaccination, so how long do we go before we accept nature?

so you are saying let them die?

you realize 10 million australians have age/health issues that mean they are a high risk of complications with covid?

i find it funny the same people who think this virus is a secret campaign by Bill Gates to reduce population, also want to let old people, disabled people, and those with health conditions die just so we can all resume as per normal

1) no re let them die. I'm suggesting we should protect the unhealthy but let the healthy get on with life
2) why? pre or post vaccination, the same group of people are at risk. So timing is irrelevant to when we open
3) based on your position, we wouldn't open for the flu..................and yes flu is a serious illness which kills many of the vulnerable.....and will kill more people this decade than corona in Australia and possibly the same could be said in the world (650,000 pa according to WHO)
4) I'm not sure of the relevance of conspiracy theories

how will you finance indefinite home detention (Wuhan style) for several million Australians? As i said your idea isnt feasible, so you cannot protect them without cutting them off from all support staff (let them die), or doing protection half assed because staff will be exposed to infection in an open society (let them die).

the notion of a bubble is nice in theory, but its impossible to implement

and how do you protect them for eternity?

whether now or in the future (post vaccination), you have to answer that question

We've saved thousands of lives this year by locking down, so why is it important to lock down to save people from Covid, but not the flu every year?

That's the biggest question I'd ask anyone who says we have to save the lives of the old and vulnerable, why didn't you care during the 2017 flu season which was the worst on record? Why weren't people screaming for lockdowns to save old people from dying then?

Lockdowns stop the flu completely so will we now be locking down every year? Or is it ok for old and vulnerable to die from the flu every year?

and how do you protect them for eternity?

whether now or in the future (post vaccination), you have to answer that question

yes, but you wont like it because its against your views

1) you acknowledge the issue is bigger than just residential aged care. in home supports and disability accommodation have to be part of the equation

2) ALL staff and support staff for this work get free PPE provided by govt - no more charging residents for this

3) Access to any aged care site, funded home accommodation, or SIL/SDA is now regulated.
- all access is recorded and accessible by dept of health/aged care/ndis
- all workers must be tested every week
- a positive test results in paid covid leave until 2 negative tests are recorded
- all tests are to be on this central database, available to all national jurisdictions
- ancillary services (ie catering, maintenance) are to be done off site or segregated from residents
- if this is not possible, the residents exposed to these staff will be in 14 day lockdown after exposure to the person
- family living with the in home care agree to live per stage 4 restrictions
- violation will result in serious fines and suspension of ability to perform services for any govt agency/dept/commission
- violation by friends/family will result in 14 days home detention with ankle monitor

- opt out for in home care is available as long as the resident signs a waiver acknowledging they are likely exposing themselves to the virus, and no staff/govt is liable if they are infected.

I think some don't appreciate what a large killer influenza is. Perhaps as we don't record deaths for influenza and covid the same. If you die from influenza but had an underlying issue, the death is recorded as the underlying issue. Thus hiding the real stats. The opposite for covid is true.

Further, I don't see the police closing down McDonalds, bottle shops and cigarette outlets to prevent the major underlying causes resulting in death from influenza and covid. I also don't see government officials blowing a whistle to morning exercise. So health isn't really the concern it actually is made out to be, from the government or society.
