After reading threads calling for Ratten to be sacked as coach, I have decide to make a simple poll thread, I have been a supporter of Ratten at Carlton, he has the passion, a club legend and a great who gave 110% for the navy Blues, the problem with Ratten it seems is that he has no tactical awareness. Our young ELITE players in Murphy, Gibbs etc don't seem to have matured into out and out game breakers under Ratten.

I have to question what sort of work we do on the training track, our skills have not improved and we don't seem to have a game plan, our goal kicking is the worst in the competition. The problem is you can't have a game plan where you need to chip the ball around if you don't have players who can't kick or hand ball to a target 15 meters away.

Do we need a whole new coaching panel, was never happy with Mark Riley as our midfield coach or whatever he does at Carlton, I read on one of the threads that our problem is we don't have any Assistant coaches who have been at successful clubs, this might also be a factor when you have to try and change the culture of a club.

In a lot of ways I am very disappointed with the way we have started the season, watching some of the highlights on the net it seems to me that we have gone backwards. We have a very tough 8 weeks now and our season could as well be over by round 6, lets hope we can go out there and play with passion and save the season, there is still time but it's quickly slipping by the wayside.

If Murphy hasn't developed brilliantly under Ratten I'll eat my hat. On the back of one performance, after a brilliant 09 and an excellent game last week, on the back of an injury interrupted preseason?

I have my doubts. Ratten seems to be lacking tactically. There's no way I'd sack him during the season but it is something that needs to be reassessed come end of the season.

At the very least, we need to hire somebody who can help out tactically, ala Port and Laidley.

Still think we're being a touch reactive after yet another shocking performance against the Bombers.

And your a idiot, did you read my post I did say I read other threads idiot.

Have some pride boys, it's only one game.

We were 2-2 last year and had a great year after that. Beat Adelaide next week and we've broken even without Fev and Judd for 3 rounds.

No. It's only Round 3.... wait until the end of the season before assessing. You can't blame Ratten for lack of intensity and poor skills from the players, put those two factors in last night and we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

While intensity must come from the players, did we approach the game the right way? Downplaying it all week while Essendon were pumped up for the occasion, is it any wonder we were second to the ball to just about every contest around the ground?

No not on the back of one performance, Murphy has the runs on the board but we need him to stand up more often, I haven't seen the game and don't want to. Have seen a little bit of the highlights (low lights) and that's about it.

P.S. If the mods don't want this thread they can merge it etc.

Then what are you basing it on? You said yourself Murphy has the runs on the board.

Was our most consistent player for mine last year.

Would rather just delete the thread. it's being discussed elsewhere and will only end in embaressment for the board

Brett Ratten's incompetence is an embarrassment for the club!

I just think we need him to stand up a bit more, I know he is still young but those excuses are fast disappearing. It's all well and good when Judd is in the team and makes everyone playing look good and when Judd get the hardest/best tagger, Murphy needs to show he is a leader of men, in the end that is what makes a player go into the next level. Don't get me wrong I love his courage and determination, but there is something missing, I might be wrong with this. It is just my opinion after all, this is the year he really next to take the next step, leadership wise.

Is this anything like the "sack Worsfold" thread on the Eagles site. Both clubs had 3 things in common, a past player coaching, off field discipline issues and the same captain.

For Murphy? Do we forget that he's barely run all preseason after hip surgery?

4 votes after 3 games given that is a fairly decent return, I would have thought. Had a very tight tag yesterday with very little help from Mr. Invisible Gibbs and an injured Mclean.

It doesn't matter, we should have good intensity regardless of opponent. The hype got to us last year, that certainly didn't work - the flip side did not work either. I doubt Ratten told them to lower their intensity this week.

I voted maybe, we have to see how the season pans out, but we are going to be pushing shit uphill over the next few rounds. Ratten will be looking over his shoulder if things don't improve.

We'll have to agree to disagree then.

Just find it hard to believe somebody can be questioning a player who was a whisker away from All Australian selection last year and played one of the best quarters I've seen from a Carlton player in a long time versus the Lions last week, effectively dragging the team back into contention.

I agree but I must say in my opinion and many others he was not in our top 5 and it was hard to find 5 worthy of votes

Didn't give him votes either. I thought he worked hard and found enough of the footy but was constantly under pressure and not at all clean with his disposal.

That said, it was probably one of the tightest tags he's had to contend with.

Do we think that Ratten can improve as a coach? Is he too soft on the players? I just heard his post match interview and I thought to myself is this guy serious or what?

Was anyone trying to help him out? Did Ratts try and change things around and help out Murphy?
