"PORT Adelaide could pick Leon Davis in the pre-season draft after coach Matthew Primus spoke to the former Magpie this week"

Quote from HS today.
That will be hard to watch. No premiership medal there.

Perfect result (well after he left us).

I almost feel sorry for Leon, he will never play in another final again.:(

Might Struggle to play in any more wins and why would Port want him?

if he ends up at freo. that will be the 2nd player who freo have not traded for but wanted from collingwood and got them to enter draft....

Yeah it's a strange decision, but I guess Port need to start winning soon or by the time they get to Adelaide Oval they will be on their knees financially (even more so then now).

I don't think Primus has time to rebuild thru youth (long term). He has to get some players to start winning games, otherwise he will be the next coach with his head on the block.

He Needs more than Just Leon then

Not sure why Port are going after Davis. He's a decent player, but you would think he only has another 1 or 2 quality years left in him. With Port's financial woes you would imagine it would be hard to fit Davis in.

I don't think he will cost much. He is probably happy to live in Adelaide for the same $ Collingwood offered $200,000-250,000 deal.

Cant see why they wouldnt want to grab him, he'd add some excitement for their fans, and would be their best player, even if for only 1 or 2 years they'd be silly to not do it if the price is right.

Can't help but think this would be a very, very poor career move by Leon.

He loses his one club status, a valid chance at a premiership all for a possible few extra bucks and is a measly one hour closer by plane to his family.

Plus is going to spend the season watching balls go over his head.

Seriously Leon, wtf??

I'd actually like it if he played for Port. If he went to Freo or West Coast he could be a premiership threat. No offence to Port but he's not going to cause us any headaches being there. And he would provide value to Port even if he was there a couple of years.

His family is from WA, hers is from Adelaide.

I'm personally ambivalent if he plays for Port or not. We aren't pushing for a flag this year but I think he would be a decent in helping young players learn, even just "at Collingwood, we did this and this and that" etc.

I can't see why Port would want him.
They will not be in contention for the flag while he is playing and all he will do is keep out a younger player from developing.
I can only see him fitting in at either Freo or West Coast as both should be pushing for a flag in a year or two.

Maybe with the lose of chornes brogan motlop they see there is a serious lax of older bodies in their team and dont wanna end up below GWS ^.^.

Yeah, I can't agree more Swooop. Although it is not just one more hour closer to Perth, it is also in the home state of his wife's family.

Nevertheless, in the event that we do win a flag in 2012 (which is far from a certainty, obviously) I can't help but thinking that down the track he will massively regret leaving. And he would also be a slight chance (only slight) to get to 250 games with the Pies as well.

What are you thinking Leon?

I hate to think of Leon wearing anything but the black & white, but out of all of the AFL options (Adelaide, Port, Freo, West Coast), Port would be the least worst in my view.
