The Adelaide Oval Hotel was just the thin edge of the wedge. With the annexation of the Adelaide Aquatic Centre proving too hard the newly strengthened alliance between the SMA and the Camry Crows will see an AFC HQ built on the Adelaide Oval footprint. Probably with the majority of the funding coming from state and federal Liberal governments.

After all as the team representing the state of South Australia they are entitled to it.

A few years ago the Crows had the chance to turn over a new leaf and change their ways. They even looked like they were beginning to do it. Instead they doubled down on everything that makes them a shit football club (sic) and a shit organisation in general, and are now more entrenched in their own mess than ever. May they reap what they sow, and fail in perpetuity. They will never taste success until they change.

Should we even bother showing up on Friday night?

That would be rather annoying.
They had way too much of the footprint at West Lakes and I don’t want any repeat of that, the smarmy self entitled b****rds,
nor do I want any of my tax dollars propping up a club that markets itself as a ‘have’ club financially.

I think today marks the official moment the SANFL shrinks to being smaller and less important than Adelaide Football Club.

For the ex chairman of the SANFL/SAFC to become chairman of an AFL Club, says it all.

Once Adelaide Oval was redeveloped, the 2 AFL clubs were freed of SANFL control with their licences, the 2 AFL clubs got full control of their players via their own teams in the SANFL, Whicker retired, the SAFC started appointing independent commissioners with no league club preferences, the writing has been on the wall for this day to happen.

In WA things go the other way.

In WA, WAFC chairman became chairman of the WCE the first 3 or 4 years when public company Indian Pacific Ltd held the licence, then WAFC Chairman's were independent of the WCE and commissioners usually had no club allegiances to WAFL clubs.

In mid 2010 Frank Cooper who was on the Freo board became chairman of WAFC after long serving chair Dr Neale Fong stepped down. Fong was chairman for 8 or 9 years and was seen as a WA Labor government appointee as he was head of the Health Department. In 2015 Murray McHenry who was WCE chair in 1997-98, became WAFC chair. In 2020 ex Chief Justice and current Lieutenant Governor, Wayne Martin, was made chairman of the WAFC.

The question has to be possed, does Olsen have to resign from the SMA board to be replaced by SANFL/SAFC chair Rob Kerin or someone else?? Current SMA board is

Rear Admiral the Honourable Kevin Scarce AC CSC RAN (Rtd) (Chairman) (SACA)
The Hon. John Olsen AO (Deputy Chairman) (SANFL)
Andrew Sinclair (SACA President)
Philip Gallagher (SANFL)
Peter Hurley AO (SANFL)
Dean Marsh (SACA)
Rod Phillips (SACA)
Louise Small (SANFL)
* Louise Small is an independent SAFC commissioner. She played netball for Matrics in the state league, was an assistant coach at Thunderbirds, is State Manager SA/NT for Mortgage Choice, was chair of SCOSA, only footy involvement was as an AFLW player Development Manager at Adelaide Football Club from 2016-2018.

If Olsen stays on as an SMA member then Port have to push for a Port representative on the SMA. Maybe this is where KT can continue to help assist the club.
I thought Kevin Scarce was a Port (& Centrals) man?

Yes he has connections, barracks for them but he is 1 of the 4 of the SACA's directors so his principal loyalty is to represent them.

They won’t be able to build on AO like they did west lakes - if they do it’ll be the first nail in the coffin for the oval.
Although that white elephant that will be the Oval Hotel may end up in their hands.
