i must say i wasnt excited by the womens match, i understand the attraction from a club point of view but as a game to watch it was pretty average. Will be interesting to see where it is in 3 years time, when people have to put their money where their mouth is.

That game last night had just about everything going for it including the romance of Carlton Collingwood playing at Princes Park, no other sport happening in the self described sports capital of the universe, free entry, good weather, footy deprivation, huge AFL endorsed build up and promotion and a huge dose of morbid curiosity. The actual standard of the game was the equivalent of A7 D grade. I think once people realise that, outside the blind faith go team mob, interest will massively wane.

Was occupied elsewhere tonight and only caught 5mins of it early on. As the father of 2 daughters it looked amazing.
Shocked by the crowd. Geez wish we had a team in it :(.

Free entry helped I think

Plus novelty factor

A good crowd so it seems, with some footy. Was it free entry? I had imagined that there would be a lot of interest at first as its new fad, also this first game of women's football would have attracted 30% of that crowd just wanting to be there to see the first game.

The first season will go well, I have my doubts that it will sustain this interest.

I have some interest in it, but not enough for me to buy a ticket.

i tend to agree unless the womens clubs get a really strong following of female's that turn up week in week out, if i was the AFL i would be running the AFL womens competition as a twilight event through the school holidays like the big bash, cricket wont like it, but that is its best possibility of survival and will turn the AFL into a 12 month sporting industry, you would have 10-12 teams playing with a game on every night.

Yep I went for the morbidity.

I won't be spending money on a ticket until Port is playing.

Yeah not overly interested, like papa v said

That was under perfect conditions I'm interested to see what its like when initial interest filters out.

Also I found watching the first half if they seemed less interested in showing "look how tough we're" and more interested in skills they would produce a better product.

Don't think the venture will fail and dissapointed port don't have a side but that would be the case if the AFL generated this much funding and press for ammos div 5

Just like netball, men are not the target audience for the WAFL, stop assuming you are.
I don't think that's entirely correct. The sponsors and the grounds need men as do the little girls who want Dad to take them.

It's therefore aimed very much at men as well, without male support the women's game will remain as it has for the past century.

I coach a female team, there are zero females putting their hand up to coach it at this point in time, they are neither capable (through lack of experience) or particularly willing.

I just don't think there's been enough justification and explanations why a few guys on here won't be following women's football.

I have stayed out of it and been patient but FFS WE GET IT YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED SO STFU seriously just let the people who are and who watched discuss it. You do realise that you don't have join in every discussion on here.

There are about 3 posters on here who obviously feel very threatened by women's football. I don't think your d!ck will fall off or the world will end because women play. Exhale and breathe, go to your safe space.

No they don't.

Womens sport doesn't need men, they just need women and children interested and the dad will do whatever makes their kids happy.

If they don't they are literally the worst dads ever.

Yes they do, don't talk silly. So a mum who doesn't want to watch her sons cricket match is the worst mum ever according to that criteria.
If women's sport didn't need men, we wouldn't be having this conversation. It is a traditional male domain and needs the support of both genders to be successful.

My team wouldn't exist if it wasn't for men. It's a passion for the game and wanting to share that passion with more people that is driving the whole thing. A playing passion that there aren't enough women with that experience yet. Yes there re plenty of female supporters, but an absolute dearth of coaches and ex players. Watching AFL is a hugely different experience to playing club footy.

Spoken like a young man with no kids.

So you'd be happy to ignore your children's interests because it doesn't align with your own?

Absolutely, I do it all the time, it's called parenting.

Nah

If the local women's comp didn't have male coaches, male trainers, male umps, and male facilities it would fall apart. I imagine it is the same in every grass roots female footy league currently.
