Hyphenated names are banned in Greece.

My partner’s family is Greek. When her Aunty had a kid a few years back there was some fuss over whether it would have her surname or the father’s (also Greek). Being the helpful chap that I am I suggested that they hyphenate. Apparently 25 letters is too many.

In Iberian culture, we usually carry both names with no hyphen. In Spanish-speaking countries, it is Father's, than Mother's; in Portuguese-speaking countries, is the other way around.

So which name do you pass on to your children, your mother’s or father’s?

Both usually pass their fathers' name on — i.e., the mother's father's; and the father's father's.

In Adelaide I went to school with Papageorgiakis and Hatzyiakoumis and a couple of others.

Fast forward to adult hood and one of my friends here in Brisbane is Greek, married to a greek guy. Hyphenated surname.

Biggest disappointment is across both names there is barely 7 syllables. Such a let down.

A bit like all the Team GB athletes getting MBEs for winning an Olympic gold medal...

Tigers life membership rule “diminishes” honour: Brown

Former Hawthorn and Gold Coast defender Campbell Brown believes winning a premiership shouldn’t entitle a player to automatically receive life membership at that club.

At Richmond’s annual general meeting earlier this week, a constitution was passed which allowed the 22 2017 Tiger premiership players, along with past members of flag teams, to be eligible for life membership.

The previous guidelines for Richmond life membership were players who had won multiple VFL/AFL premierships, or a single VFL/AFL flag holder who played a minimum of 100 matches.

Could this be their over-doing it moment and begin the cycle of lolrichmond anew?
