I remember it because it was so stupid, and I couldn't believe the bloke who was supposed to look after the players welfare side of things, could make such a dumb statement and not do a bit of research beforehand if he was so concerned about the player, given it happened on a Sunday, I think, and he was speaking so much shit about it on a Thursday night.

Must have been the next week as I don't remember seeing it, but I know they and in particular Gale, back tracked very quickly after the surgeon said he is an idiot, doesn't know what he is talking about, and that he and his team deal with car crash victims nearly everyday who have similar types of busted face, accidents.

To be fair, you don't put established coaches through the process, you know what you're getting with him, with Lyon. You bring them in for an interview and that's it. If you're gonna waste time treating them like a first go coach then yeah they'll not want it, much like no one wanted Collingwoods job.

You would want to find out what went wrong at Freo and what was the issue with the female staff member that a non disclosure agreement was signed all about. They did a mickey mouse almost no process with Malthouse and in the end,he didn't last very long.

Why is Mark Williams never talked about for these jobs? His record reads better than Lyon's and his presence seems to have also coincided with relatively successful periods at GWS and Richmond. No one seems to make the link between him arriving at Melbourne this year and their improvement.
He doesn't really get the respect he should.

Still remember having beer (I hope) being tipped on us from Collingwood supporters in the tier above as we watched that losing 2003 prelim against them at the G.

The simple fact is that Eddie McGuire is one of those self important VFL heavyweights that Mick Warner describes in his book, The Boys Club, who are outraged at the fact that lesser mortals from interstate clubs fail to give them the sort of lick spittle respect that they think they deserve.
