Will we ever kick accurately against a great Brisbane team at the Gabba, like GWS have done the last two times they have played Brisbane at the Gabba?

Brisbane losing is a great result for the Crows and GWS winning is a $h!t result for us.

The Matildas will always draw a reasonable crowd wherever.
I just don’t see the GWS thing taking off , you live there so you would know the answer to this question.
Can you see GWS ever taking over from the Raiders and NRL in general?
Nope, you're right. GWS have never been a Canberra team, and they don't even play in their "localised" guernsey any more. I suspect had they had "Canberra" in their name from the start, and split home games with Homebush, that might have seen more traction here.

I guess it's the same though for any "new" team in an area - they come in when everyone who is interested in the sport already has a team, so it's difficult to get converts. Success of course changes that, but they haven't had a lot of that since joining. It was interesting to note at our recent game that the Port cheer squad outnumbered and out voiced the GWS one. Attendance was good given the conditions, but I suspect a lot of fans were neutrals going along because we don't get many opportunities.

It may not seem so from outside, but there's a fair bit of competition for bums on seats here. Both the Raiders and the Brumbies have been around for a while, and both have been winners of their respective competitions (and are having good seasons this year). We also had very successful mens and womens basketball teams for a while (Cannons/Capitals) which were very well supported. Until quite recently we also had a successful baseball franchise, and we have reasonably well supported mens and womens soccer teams. The ACT Govt is also pretending to be interested in building a competition ice hockey arena for the local team.

I can but not if anchored to Manuka as capacity maxes out at about 15k. Canberra’s population will continue to grow, it’s not far off half a million now which is significantly bigger than Hobart, and is only going to get bigger. All 3 GWS games at Manuka last season were sold out, highlighting that if they are playing well, the people will attend.

That’s it if you win something especially in Australia people will jump on.
If they won a flag it would make the world of difference but if they don’t it’s going to be hard as Capital Power said there’s a lot of successful franchises around that way.

As an another election has just been called in Tasmania, Albanese has again publicly backed the AFL's proposal for a roofed stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart, saying it will transform a rubbish dump into a vibrant new precinct.

Seems like the AFL has lobbied Albanese to do this. What's the bet he will announce an increase in the amount of Federal Government money that's put into the stadium build as an election sweetener. Well played Dillon.

Given that both the Tasmanian Liberals and the ALP back the stadium, a bucketload of more Australian taxpayers money into the mix (reducing the amt required from the Tasmanian govt) will make it a certainty I think.

It’s easy to throw hundreds of millions of dollars at something when the money isn’t yours

Raiders and Brumbies are both playing very well currently but would rarely get crowds bigger than Manuka’s capacity. I don’t know what sport migrants navigate towards but the more people that come here the bigger the market for all the teams.

Canberra needs a city stadium - it’s weird currently with Manuka in inner south and the rugby out north, and both stadiums are old and shite, but apparently it needs an electric tram line more.

Until a new stadium happens talk of a permanent team here is moot. 20+ years away.

True. That applies to all involved here.

The Tasmanian Government. The Federal Government. The AFL.

But make no mistake. There will be a lot of money made from this new Tasmanian team. And my view is that those getting the biggest financial returns from any investment should be the ones who are making the biggest up front investment. Basic risk/reward stuff.

But, as I said in an earlier post, the AFL is the past master of shifting the up front cost and risk for investments that they and their sponsors will reap the biggest financial rewards over to mug taxpayers who will get f-all.

**** me, here we go with the Crows media sooking again.

Having a whinge about the AFL making a relevant post about calling to say goodnight.

Unbelievable what a sensitive and sooky bunch they are. Actually earns the 18:08 spot on the news. Crazy.
Which news service (he asked him knowingly).

Edit: Found it. Shocked to find it was the crow's partner news service, Smithson and Goodings led Channel 7, that led with the outrage story. Shocked I tell ya!

The irony of a news service leading with a story about the need for the AFL social media team to be 'unbiased' clearly lost on them all.

I have an Essendon supporting friend of the family who’s always telling me that Hinkley is a great coach who does very well with the list that he’s got, and that I definitely shouldn’t want someone else coaching us etc.

I can’t wait for Brad Scott to get sacked because Hinkley will be available when that happens.

The post was garbage, deserves criticism but not news worthy. Let them do the crying over this; Port usually do the heavy lifting on the important things.

Gee they are in a league of their own. Pathetic bastards. Worst in the AFL by a long way.

Hinkley is going to have a lot of offers.
Might be the first AFL/VFL coach to coach two sides at the same time.

Is this that stupid farmers game haha? Another flipping bogus AFL marketing bullshit game. BIG VIC CLUBS AT THE G TRADITIONAL VFL

Long overdue recognition for the beating heart of rural Australia that is the metropolitan Melburnian suburb of Essendon
