Does the NRL have a Reserves competition? Whatever they’re doing, they seem to be doing it much more effectively.

its patchwork between NSW Cup and QLD cup and alot more convoluted than the AFL

QLD teams have up to 3 different affiliate teams in QLD cup, Storm have 1 affiliate in NSW and 2 in QLD

Most NSW teams have stand alone ressies in NSW cup and so do the Warriors

Chooks have a standalone team in NSW cup but also and QLD cup affliate??? which i have no clue how that works

I was always of the belief that the Storm's feeder team was only the Sunshine Coast team. They will lose North Sydney Bears when the Perth Bears fire up.

yeah NSW cup is just 10 ressies + Jets and bears both of which are affiliated with NRL clubs (sharks and Storm)

Strom have this interesting relationship with the sunshine coast, dont they even own/run the sunshine coast lightning netball team?

maybe they find it easier to recruit young QLD talent this way.

I remember the Storm got a great setup on the Sunshine Coast when News Ltd owned them and had 50% JV share of the NRL. Basically they ensured the Storm would have an excellent breeding ground of players to make sure they were always strong in a tough Melbourne sports market.

Bit like the AFL makes moves to keep Sydney strong for the last 30 years.

I can live with a wildcard weekend purely because it rewards the top 6 and eliminates the bye, they can't be classified as finals though.
Andrew Dillion has said that Wildcard Round is part of the finals.

"We're thrilled to deliver fans an extra weekend of finals footy, while giving more clubs and players the opportunity to play finals footy and win a Premiership," AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said in a statement.

The Wildcard Finals Round reflects our ongoing commitment to evolve our competition structure, building on recent additions like Gather Round and AFL Origin, ensuring our game continues to grow.

Ah ok so it's not a wildcard it's a top 10, I mean I guess it's the same thing really lol but I would've thought you classify the wildcard as qualifiers for the actual finals series.

Typical that the AFL don't actually understand the wildcard qualification concept.

What does that actually mean:think:

I think in a perfect world you just play everyone once plus maybe a rivalry double up & somehow extend the finals series in a better way I'd like 6 weeks of finals. That's more than enough football really with SoO coming back as well.

In reality this is just another two games of football for punters to throw their gambling dollars at.

They should have a pick 1 playoff between the bottom 4. All that tanking for nothing. And it would be funny watching two teams playing, actively trying to lose.

You'd be spewing if you had the 10th placed teams first round pick for that year and they Bradburied their way to a prelim or grand final.

Actually on this, if you finished 9th and are literally no chance to win through, wouldnt you just prefer not to risk your draft pick lol...alternatively what if you are 9th on percentage and want to lose some so you actually drop a spot lmao.

Imagine improving your draft position after a belting in a wildcard round.

I'm certain the AFL have thought this through and carried out extensive modelling around all scenarios to ensure the integrity of the competition and the draft.
