I think you are on the money here. I am not terribly worried about whether X stays or goes, mainly because I have gotton used to him not being in the team.

Nearly all the comments made here are relevant.

I think I would acccept a 2nd round pick but we may be shortchanged for a third round.
If Drain can get the Clarke brothers through a season we will know he is good.
I think I once read something on Harvey where he was saying the trick ( as he got older ) was to recognise when the Hammy's were getting close to the limit and to "stop". Young guys in the heat of a game can keep pushing to the breaking point.

X is a major part of our steady improvement moving forward. He is a pacy outside type midfielder who has a beautiful kick and he can kick goals. His pace allows him to be an aggressive tackler. He needs to work hard and maintain fitness to strengthen his hammies. This preseason will go a long way to cementing him in our midfield. The years he has with this playing group will do us in good stead - he has the desire and the skills he just needs the fitness.

Mark Williams for some reason just does not rate him and refused to play him, even going to the extent of pretending he was injured as an excuse. Just about every single Port supporter thought he should have been playing all year and even Port legends like Francou were pleading with Choco to play him.

He's a good player, and would be a good pickup at the right price (cheap).

I know what you're saying, but make no mistakes Birss is not some gun midfielder waiting to blossom. However he is a reliable player with solid skills and seemed to be the best option for our team during the year and was surprisingly not played.

I don't know much about Thomson but his statistics for this year ( when he played ) look good.
However, beware of trades with a groin injury history! I could be the real reason he wasn't playing.

And he still spent almost the entire season out of the side.

If we get a 2nd round pick for him we should jump at it. No use sticking with the same players that have achieved nothing and most likely never will albeit due to some circumstances that have been out of his control.

Saints should trade x.clarke he has never become a great player. Trade him this year because another year like this he will be worth $0. Try trade him for Mitchy Thorp or try getting a 2nd draft pick for port as he was our 1st rounder a couple of years ago. Then if we get a 2nd rounder we could get zaharakis and another good player in the draft.
