Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Melbourne

The main thing with everybody is to accept that we are finishing at the bottom of the ladder.
Forget the criticism and look to the future.
Foley played his best game so far I think and looked like he belonged.I’d shaken my head over him so I was pleasantly surprise.looking forward he is now firmly on the plus side.
Jameson showed us enough in three games to show us that we have already unearthed a very handy big man.The club probably hadn’t budgeted on him putting his hand up this early.
Edwards is a monster but a very balanced monster.I feel the ruck stint last week freed him up a bit and gave him some confidence.
OAllen hopefully will make a full recovery.
Rioli and Ryan still have years to go.
Barass has years to go.
This years draft was very handy ( hopefully) for us.
Cresser looked good,Bazzo by all reports is the goods,Hough has done a bit already.Williams is young but looks very capable.
Yo;subject to fitness; has three or four years still in him.Ditto Kelly.
NN should have a couple of years in him as he hasn’t played a lot over the last five or six year.Jameson can learn from him and play a Jackson type 2nd ruck role.
I think Williams will fall back in the pecking order. With his marking ability surely he should be looked at as a key forward.JD is going on 30 so he is not the future.OA is to small to be playing on monsters like Andrews at the Lions. He plays more a Gunston role.Williams has the size and leap to play the role.
Bunga needs to retire, ditto Shuey, ditto JK.Cripps is now borderline.
Witherden,Waterman,Rotham are definitely not in the 22.
Petrol is on his last chance.
SPS looks handy depth.West and Clark will fight it out with SSP for that 3rd 4th 5th mid role.
What we dont want is getting all our old stars back dropping the kids and winning five out of the last seven games and finishing 12th or thirteenth.keep playing the kids; all of them; Let’s finish as low as possible.
I wouldn’t be worrying too much about us winning 5 out of 7 games later this year. Ain’t happening, ain’t possible.

We lost mostly on talent imbalance. If you let the two captains pick sides from the 44 players involved most of the first 10 picked would be Dees players and most if not all of the last 10 picked would be ours. This current WC side isn't beating the current Melbourne side in a month of Sundays.

We had a dip. 61-52 tackles, 12-12 tackles inside 50, 10-12 centre clearances despite a clear disadvantage in the ruck. Compare that to the Port game for example where centre clearances were 16-5, tackles 75-58 and tackles inside 50 28-3.

Rotham and Witherden are good with ball in hand looking to take the game on and kick long. A bit like with Priddis retiring helping our mids I think these guys will benefit when Hurn's not there. All 3 in the one side isn't balanced but we who else are we going to pick?

Kelly and West had their best games of the year, Redden had a good Redden game in his 250th tackling hard. Clark handy too.

My man Jamaine Jones got decent game time across half back. Will probably get dropped for making the odd mistake and giving away 4 frees but Luke Parker isn't going to shrug at him.

Edwards looked more confident.

We still play comically dumb footy. We were on top for the first couple of minutes and even had the lead for about 3 of those. Then before you know it Melbourne had 6 on the board before they woke up. How many goals have we conceded from 10m sideways kicks in the back half this year? Out of 144 goals I'd say at least 10 of them. How many have we conceded from our defenders all going for marks and no one killing the contest or staying down? How many from contests not killed over the boundary line or letting the ball get out the back?

Rotham and Witherden are walking turnovers when they look short inboard.

Foley out with concussion and Ryan suspended (somehow only for one week).

Winder. I just don't see it. For a guy that is a regular ND pick and on our main list the SSD and top up players are better.

63,84,109,75, 74 as losing margins just isn't good enough, surely worst of all time stuff.

We showed merit in moments but the amount of negative 12 point plays we allow to happen with piss poor turnovers is sickening.

People keep saying "it can only get better from here", but things have been cooked for 5 weeks now.
63,84,109,75, 74... the modelling suggests that we have reached peak sh1t

Probably just consider the sheer volume of ball the backs are seeing and just how little of it is staying in our forward line for them to catch their breath. They would be feeling under attack for 120 minutes straight.
Nope, they are doing it at the start of the game as well and often under no pressure. I realise that the backline have been getting bombarded and with poor structure ahead of the ball when we win it there will be more turnovers but that doesn't excuse missing open targets 25m away when under no pressure. Witherden has been the worst lately but no orphan.

Imagine if both B and J Williams come good and lead our forward line for 10 years. The commentator's minds would explode.
I would be very surprised if B Williams is here for much longer. He has never seemed happy to be in WA and his body language after kicking that goal on Sunday was just a bit ho hum

We were getting pantsed, if he had celebrated it would've been a pretty poor look.

I was very surprised that he kicked it, truth be told. All games I have seen of him, his goal kicking has been woefully off. Maybe JK has been working with him.
This is the inside info that I would love to hear.

The camera was on these two post game when they were having a chat, and I couldn't help but notice the vast difference in physique.

Pickett is chiseled and looks like a finely tuned athlete, whereas Ryan looks physically the same as when he was running around for Subi.
Is it just me or do a lot of our guys seem to have beer bellies?

To be honest I think he was a better chance from there than 30m out directly in front.

I recently told a 60+ year old guy involved in the SWFL who asked me about Bailey Williams that if I was given the choice of Williams, Casboult or himself kicking for my life I would choose him. He said he couldn't make the distance to which i replied "Yeah, but you can kick straight and it might roll through, i'll take the chance"

  • West remonstrating with Brown for a late hit on Foley early in 3rd (I think?);
  • Clark getting stuck into Viney after his late hit on West later on in the 3rd.

Have seen hardly any instances of WC flying the flag for their team mates in recent seasons. Normally our players just pretend nothing happened and keep walking.

Hoping this general combative attitude returns to the team under their new brand of footy.

Just watched the 4th quarter vs Melbourne as I missed the bulk of it.

Liam Duggan is rubbish. He's played 123 games now and looks an absolute mile off it.

The worst part is he's probably our best small defender. And he stinks.

Duggan isn’t rubbish.

He’s also not that great.

He just kind of…is.

Which is fine for later picks, but you’d hope to have extracted more out of a first rounder.

He is coming back from a fairly serious injury, and has had a fair amount of injury over his career.

He has had good patches in his career, average patches and some not so good ones. He is a good, average player, solid B grade at his best. You can’t build a team around him but he can be good support player. Ideally you would want a better return from a first round pick but he has produced a lot more than Cockatoo who was around the same pick.

This makes him considerably better than a number of others presently floating around in the backline.

Flying the flag like Hunter on Hall?
