What are the positives we can take from the game.

1: Otto shows he can be a big target for us up forward: better delivery and some smalls around would have helped
2: Egan Solid performance down back
3: Bartel still has the courage to go back with the flight of the ball
4: Gazza new he was going to be hit but still waited to deliver the pass Great Effort
5: The draft pick that is early should allow us to patch a small defect
6: Confrimed what a lot of people think about some players. E.g Kelly appears to be in first gear when the game is played in about 4th gear. Thats why he got caught HTB that lead to the first goal. SJ talented but he is a waste of talent thinks the game revolves around his skills or lack of.

The value of some players when the team is playing not so well show out.
I would rather us make a mistake trying to win than just make mistakes.

Coaching not sure what happened but maybe we need a review not saying we replace Bomber maybe we need an external look at what has been happening. Midfield beaten again, backline no first options out of defence. Players running away from the ball just to hopefully find their man, maybe we need to apply more pressure this may mean man 2 man or a switching defence where we apply on ball pressure and the defence switches to cover the pressure player.. Surely when your man beats you a few times you may think his direct opponent would go to him and at least apply some pressure. Zoning did not work, we need accountability

Hahaha @ positives from yesterday. Another season shot down.

But I do agree. Ottens and Egan continue to improve which is great to see.
Ottens has been in some fine form with his hands, his kicking has been a tad iffy the past 2 weeks though.

Good post!

Given that probably none of us will ever be privy to the strategic thoughts and meetings of the coaching executive, it is entirely possible that the sort of shake-up that we want is already being played out by the recent inclusion of players who have unquantified value. If the club is not getting return on investment, then why not try and increase their value to prepare for the liquidation of assets. In other words, who knows - maybe they are getting ready to get tough and do some hard trading.

Now I know you could equally say the same about the coaching executive, but I'm trying to think positively and not go down that road.

He was disgraceful. Never seen someone run with the ball so many times and use it to no advantage. Definitely a game he'll want to forget, sorry if you love him. Egan was fantastic in the back line.

i seem to remember woja being one of the few that actually bombed it long into ottens for one on one contests instead of chipping it around and allowing north to get back.

Possibly becasue there was no one working up the ground to create leads and options.

His disposal at times isn't the greatest (not alone there) but he was the only cat yesterday willing to break the lines from defence and attack the game. This was the same last week as well.

If you look at any half decent team in recent history you'll notice that they all build strongly from half back through strong running which creates headaches for the opposition defences. If you suggest that chipping sidways 20 meters everytime to a "safe" option (which we seem to stuff up most of the time anyways) is better then actually trying to take the opposition on then I'd suggest that you are very wrong.

How about the fact that Riccardi is still silky smooth class and we have him for another.......4 or 5 games? Hmm not so positive.

Woja is fast, seeing him on TV does it no justice.
Ottens played well considering he was double teamed (excluding that stupid handball to Chapman on the boundary after he marked).

He didn't show anything silky or smooth on the weekend. He looked like the game had passed him. This may have been just because it was his first game abck. but he didnt look great at all.

I don't love him at all. His disposal is disgraceful.

He was, however, the one player playing the style of game that wins us matches - taking on the opposition, running and carrying the ball and kicking long to 1-on-1 contests (ie. not waiting until they get a 2nd man back to interfere with Ottens).

Shining light. When you play like that your disposal matters less and less because you give your forwards a much better chance.

Agree, but disagree.
The game has passed him, but all of his kicks were very nice, put out in front and looked the goods. They actually were spinning properly, which you do not see as much these days.

The first time he got the ball (i think0 was in traffic and he just made it look so easy and had so much time to decide which option to go to.

Bomber only has 5 games left.
Beat me too it.

Woja's bad disposals werent his fault, everyone standing around not moving because they wanted a chip kick was the problem and you can't win games just by taking more marks and kicks you have to DO SOMETHING WILL THE BALL and Monica was about the only player who did.

Don't stick up for him, he was terrible. You know it! I'll admit he showed integrity and his efforts were better than a lot of other key players. But he did have a disgraceful game and don't hide from the fact that he should have used the ball better. We have been waiting and waiting and waiting for Woja to step up and he still hasn't yet this season. So don't hide from the fact that he had a disgraceful game!!!!

That's crazy talk!

Im sure some of you so called experts were not really watching too hard rather than hanging it on all out players.

Monica while not his best game for the club showed some great glimpses of what he can do/will do again. Yes he ran throught the line and no one else wanted or for that matter could. He can let him self down with disposal and we all know that the tube does not show you the full game so sometimes its hard to see where the forwards were going. However when you have the lazy forwards in McCarthy, SJ Mackie not leading, Moonie drifting down and not being accountable leaving Otto 2 out is not a great place to be pinpointing a kick. Mind you he still does need to work on his disposal at speed something that all our pacy kids need to work on eg Tenace.

AND AS FOR RICCO

Was shown he is a bit slower than his best. Did not do a lot then again is not really match fit so was never going to be our game breaker. Ricco was still getting some hard ball clearances and quick disposal to a player in advantage. His skills are still better than anyone in the club and if is easily a walk up selection for the rest of the year and I believe should go again for one more year...with adecent preseason (like the rest of the idiots)

think the players were generally knackered. that and going two players down was the final straw.

Kangaroos were very impressive. Apparently they are number 1 at clearances - cats couldn't get into the game.

Positives for me - very few - Enright's continued great season, Ottens marking, mackie's passing and improvemnt, Wojinski's running the lines.

I hope we adopt the "break the lines" game plan (rather than the chip around, which we don't have the skills for) over the last rounds - I really want to see which players can do it. think that Byrnes and Tenace have the pace - lets stick with them for the final rounds and see if they are going to be part of the answer.

Nope, they average 30.5 (11th), we average 30.1 (12th).

Yet somehow (please explain Bomber!) they beat us 29-19.
