For me the march to the 'G followed by an excellent performance against Melbourne was one of the more emotional days I've had for the EFC.

Also the obvious of:
1) Tippa
2) Parish
3) Hooker re-committing despite everyone saying he was gone
4) Heppell staying true to EFC
5) Zerrett's continued development
6) Zaharakis
7) Berger's tapwork

Heaps of positives to come out of the year for me despite our bottom of the ladder position.
Not convinced we will be automatic top 4 next year as some of the media are suggesting we will be but we will be bloody hard to beat.

A couple of (personal/subjective) positives that haven't been mentioned:

  • Long has come on really nicely.
Though he is yet to play a senior game, he has developed really well over the off season and has been solid after a pretty exciting start with a couple of BOG's in the VFL. Has added a little bit of size, but his aggression and tackling have been a bonus. Kid is a ripcord; I think he will smash it next year, and beyond.
  • Paddy Ambrose adds a string to his bow.
Most divisive is our Paddy. For some an out-and-out spud, for others a physical machine with fascinating potential. He has in fact proved that he can do a decent job as a lock-down defender, with the tank to take on roaming forwards, and the mongrel to cause some hurt when possible. Disposal efficiency has been surprisingly good for mine. Questions over his closing speed have, if not been answered, then shown to be not so pointed. That sentence makes no sense. He hasn't set any worlds on fire, but his development has been solid and incremental IMO, and that's a good thing for us - even if it means we are only deepening our roster.
  • No major injuries, particularly to our young mob (yeh, good jinx dickhead).
  • My alcohol consumption has reached a ten-year high, peaking whenever EFC seem to play.

Only 5 games to go now! We've unearthed some future players - parish, Tippa, Francis, Z.Merrett, Hartley.
Pick number one pretty much locked in - if we can lock in Hurley & Watson (not so worried about Hibberd) then we have a lot to look forward to in 2017

Seems to me like the media is forgetting to mention young Laverde when talking about our positives. For me he is really progressing. So strong and courageous, great hands and generally uses the ball well. One of my favourite already, future looks bright (y)

Notwithstanding sitting on one win and with a % south of 60, the core young players have been amazing this year. It's not just losing the 12 banned players. Aside from Dea and Kelly and the odd game from Jamar, the replacement players have hardly been on the field, almost like a rash of long term injuries on top of losing 8 or 9 best 22 players. It could have been so much worse. Worsfold has been immense IMO.

1. Youth stepping up.
2. Merrett establishing himself as a star.
3. Daniher taking his game to a new level.
4. Fantasia up forward.
5. Tippa providing the run-and-carry that we haven't had in years.
6. Ongoing improvement from Langford and Laverde.
7. Looks like we nailed both the Parish and Francis picks.
7. Effort in almost every game even when out matched.

We've managed to fast-track our youth to some degree with many taking on more responsibility than they otherwise would have. Unearthing the likes of Tippa and Hartley will also pay dividends for years to come. Next season can't come soon enough.

The 'top up' players (jamar being the latest) can't speak highly enough of the environment at Essendon these days. Although Essendon may not yet be a destination club, the messages coming from the top ups and guys like Cooney (all from outside the club) have been great for helping the club turn its reputation around.

Everyone here.

Still posting, still watching games, still complaining about players.

I know many peoples love of Football has diminished as a result of this saga, and some aren't still posting here as regularly but we are all still healthy and supporting a club that's been through hell.

There is plenty to not just be positive about but to be proud of.

on the contrary, i think this year has been far better than last year.
It was hard watching last year. So many broken souls.

My top 10 for the year:
1-Zach Merrett. I loved his 2015. This year has been f'n amazing. All this w-fest over Bont and i reckon Zach is his equal.
2-Tippa. Love him. i had my doubts he'd make the jump from VFL to AFL. the egg on my face is delicious
3-Fantasia. A small forward. thank the gods.
4-Hartley & Ambrose. We lose 2 defenders (Carlisle & Fletch), up pop another 2.
5-Pick 1. Im sorry, but i love the fact we will likely have it and the idea of Brodie or McCluggage
6-Daniher. That mo has powers. never shave it young man. Has been a good leader this year
7-McKenna. Another solid find.
8-Parish. I was a little sad we didn't get Oliver. But I'm stoked with Parish's year. Best debut since Heppell.
9-Woosha. I like how calm he is about everything. stabilising force at the club.
10-Most people seem over the saga. There will be trolls, but all in all, our games have been rather pleasant to attend this year. May change when we start beating teams though
