A new game plan under Dew and 3 wins to start the season and we could be on a roll very quickly, I firmly believe the difference between 1st and 10th is not talent it’s belief.

Hawthorn were a great side because they believed it and after a while other clubs did too. That’s why when the fall came it came quickly as they lost the belief and the other clubs saw them as vulnerable.

We can make the 8, we have the talent, wins will bring belief
Agreed , no one can tell me Richomd went from 13th to 1st on the back of Prestia , Caddy and Nankervis , Dew will be our biggest recruit this off season.

Agree wholeheartedly with this. Although I think the 1st half of the season will be tough, with no home games, nor our 1st class training facilities.
However as you've stated, a new Coach, new game plan, ALL players being treated equally, then the foundations will be set for a great period in the Suns life.
Looking forward to it, and renewing my overseas membership. And who knows, if the AFL hierarchy can give us 3 home games out of 4 next August, I might even be able to purchase a 3 game membership as well, seeing as I'll be back on the Coast then, for a month.

Who are you? And what have you done with iva?

the only positive is HIV positive as evidenced by clayton's HIV induced encephalopathy at the draft table

Did Evans and Dew get to you too? :p

My understanding is we have our facilities and will be using the new back oval for training.

Went to the GC 600 today
Such a brilliant event
Love my Gold Coast.
Once we start convincing people how unreal it is here the floodgates will open with players wanting to be here.

It will come
I’m not a player but I’d love to be up there.

Love this post Iva! We lack belief. There are 2 players in particular (there are more) that I think can have a huge impact next year, and yeah they are pretty obvious, as we've all seen the signs from them that they have what it takes but to me, they certainly lack confidence and belief:

1. Peter Wright - Dead set weapon of a kick from 50m out. Tall, good engine, and smart but just lacks a bit of belief in himself that he can be the main man. No reason he cant have a 60 goal year. Always looks hesitant to have a shot from 55m out when we all know he can nail it. Just need to take the ownership. If he gets it within 60, just go back and back yourself in.

2. Brayden Fiorini - We have seen him accumulate alot of the footy. Loves giving it off at first opportunity, especially around goals.... This bloke actually needs to take a leaf ( maybe only one or two) out of Aaron Halls book and be a bit more selfish. Take on the responsibility, have a go at the bananas and checksides inside fwd 50 if he sharks it at the contest. He has the skill, again just needs the belief that he can be that 25 - 30 disposal, 1 or two goal a week mid.

The talent is already on the list. Dew just needs to extract it and maximize it, the best way he can.

I like the hiring of Dew and with a little research done, I like Weller. Hopefully our 4 2016 first-rounders progress enough that can have something of a positive year.

Great thread and so encouraging to see so much optimism. I predicted a middle 6 finish this season, with finals a possibility and being in contention for all games the main objective. I was dead wrong, but until the injury toll came along there was hope that the team could collect 9 or 10 wins.

2018 will see 39 players on our list with AFL experience, which is better than the 35 we started 2017 with. You would hope any delistings are replaced by experienced players to keep this figure. Wigg hasn't played AFL yet, although his 3 years in the SANFL will place him in the mix with players of the same age, of which we have plenty.

The 5 Rookies from the 2017 Draft will all play again next season, with Bowes and Ainsworth already pencilled into our best 22. Brodie seems to be next man up, while Scheer has the advantage of having played in the Suns system like Bowes. Scrimshaw was told to hit the gym as soon as he came to the club, so an offseason in the new facility will hopefully get him into AFL condition. All 5 need to improve their endurance too if they are to become regular selections.

The 2014 and 2015 Drafts brought in talent that has yet to truly fire, although Wright, Miller, Ah Chee and Fiorini have shown massive potential and are top 22 players. Macpherson, Willis, and Schoenfeld are all potential cuts or re-rookie projects, although I'd hate to see any of them go. Leslie, Lemmens, and Kolodjashnij come from the underrated 2013 Draft, yet I reckon each one has the potential break out this year.

Jack Martin is 23 years old and having been recruited at 17 is one of the club's stalwarts. I want to see him more in the midfield creating opportunities for our forward line rather than waiting for poor delivery. Aaron Hall is a star and despite his coachkilling ways, he is the most likely to fill Ablett's shoes. Swallow is our best midfielder and I can't help but think that if he gets his wish of playing alongside his brother that he will go to the next level (just stop being a kamikase, Davey).

The next group are the nucleus of the 2014 side that got all of our hopes up, yet couldn't get the job done without Ablett. McKenzie, Nicholls, Lonergan, and Sexton are all still young, but probably at the crossroads of their AFL careers.
Day and Lynch absolutely need to come back from injury for the forward line to click back into the unit they previously forged, while May is a player that the team can't seem to win without.

The Free Agents of 2017 are a brilliant complement to the maturing squad, while last year's 4 FA's added a dimensional of toughness and positional need that had been missing. Rischatelli and Barlow are big question marks to continue, along with Rosa (concussion), because their injuries will limit them. Original FA, Harbrow, is an essential part of the team and I really hope he can form a partnership with Hanley to provide the kind of slingshot off halfback that will have fans going "Saad who?"

There you go. I'm the most optimistic Suns fan in existence. I'm so positive about this team I've been booted off other social media platforms for calling pessimists and trolls.

Talking about positives (I hope it is) how is Sam day going.... always liked Sammy and wish all the best...
Last I heard he was hoping to join in full training after Xmas. I might be wrong but I haven’t heard of any hiccups since.
I hope he makes a return as he’s invaluable with taking the pressure off Lynch, can go back if needed and pinch hit in the ruck. He’s also a quality bloke and is very loyal to this club.
Thanks for your interest.

Great that Suns stood by him in wake of an horrendous injury . Not sure of outcome - but Suns extended his contract to 2019. Looking good at this stage of preseason- hopefully a role forward or back as needs be.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting here, but as an opposition supporter I'd just like to say that you have a lovely group of players! We live in the Tweed Shire and popped down to Byron on Sunday for the open training session. The players were all in good spirits and very friendly and generous with their time. Aaron Hall, in particular, was awesome with my 10 yo son and a couple of his mates, involving them in some weights session. He's now my son's fave non-Melbourne player. Tom Lynch also had a good chat to him and I found all of your players to be great to chat to. As a result we're now planning to travel up to Metricon to watch a few more Suns games. I hope you have a good 2018!
