thought the guys who did the job on 2 nth aboriginal boys were fantastic
one of them ended up with 2 goals but one was a complete fluke i cant remember the other one

armfield love his attack on the ball great speed as well u could say blistering pace
needs to work on disposal and decision making coughed it up a few times

cloke very good one of his best games

kreuzer very good loved his work 2nd efforts and such

The one thing that killed us today was, our boys, were playing on men. The backline the most so, they didn't have the strength to go one on one and were out marked in a contest far to often. We kicked a winning score in a game, where we were pretty awful and wasteful around stoppages and going forward.

In the next few years our boys down back will be a lot stronger and be able to win contests.

yea i very good points tish

that guy (used to play for sydney forgot his name) that was playing on mcintosh up forward got caned he will learn a bit from that so will his team mates didnt get a lot of support back there at times

Simpson solid as always, Walker finding good fitness and form, Judd well just Judd, Grigg was good and looks a likely type, Murphy won alot of ball in a pretty crap midfield, Jammo is all class and the big fella Kreuze will be a gun.

Great year Blues.. Probably not a bad thing missing out on finals..it'll just deepen our hunger next year and with all the young blokes winning a few games will hold us in good stead im sure. What we learnt today is carlton is lacking in the big man department which is where we got smashed and i hope ratts can get sum quality guys in the in the next couple of years which will determine the level of success of the blues 09' and beyond.

Went to the dome for the game and found it a bit disheartening. We're always going to have good days and bad days... what we saw today was how much further we need to go on our bad days to be competitive and in the finals next year. What we've seen in some other games this year is how close we are to being a top 4 side when we have good days.

Pro:
Carrazzo did a great job shutting down his opponents when on the backline and then, when allowed to move up the field in the last quarter it became obvious that his kicking now is much, much better than earlier in the year. He delivered a micrometer perfect kick to Fev in the right pocket that led to a goal and a few minutes later got the ball to Fisher in the same precise way. He held Campbell to 3 disposals and 0 goals while he picked up 21 disposals and 3 goal assists.

Fev was on song today kicking confidently and accurately. He wasn't chasing as much as he seems to always do when we win however.

Con:
Almost the entire team seemed to develop a bad case of 'bobble the ball' for most of the day. Running past it, trying to pick it up and muffing it, dropping marks.

Many of the guys who normally impress seemed flat today. Gibbs, Murphy for half the game, Stevens come to mind. Even Kruzer and Judd seemed a bit off except for a few instances of brilliance.

The structure and game plan seemed wrong. It was obvious once North made a few adjustments and dominated the second quarter that we were in trouble, but few changes were attempted till the end of the game, when a few guys were moved around. I'm hopeful that Ratts and his assistants are learning as the year goes on and we'll see the result next year.

Interesting thread this one.
All year everyone has been moaning about the fact that we desperately require ruckmen and yet if you scroll through this thread, the ruckmen have featured most favorably in our list of positives. Go figure.

Positives for me. We matched, what is quite possibly a Grand Final contending footyside for an entire quarter, man for man and goal for goal. Given the advantage in size, power and speed the opponent has over us that was a great showing. As our side develops into young men, we will do that for four quarters. And we will do it week in week out.

OK, we lost.
Im as dissapointed as everybody is.
BUT, ive got to say, there were a few impressive points IMHO

* Fishers 3 goals; Hes been pretty bad this year, and im not the only one thats going to admit that. But all his goals were on the run, and they were all accurate. Without Fish crumbing from Fev we might have lost by a bit more.

* Jordan Russel - Wasnt dissapointed with his game as always, thought he showed a fair bit, and imo is finally starting to come along nicely.

* The Soccer Goal - Fevs in the 1st quarter was outstanding. Really not a huge fan of him, but i thought it deserved some applaud :p

* Armfield; Absolutely loved his smother in the North Melbourne forward line, thought it was terriffic from the first year player.

* Special K - Second and third attempts were outstanding, especially in the last(?) quarter down near our forward 50.

Dont shoot me down, it was a disapointing loss, but theres always going to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Armfield - NO didnt rate his game today!
Russell - Yes very happy with him i hope he can finish the year on a high and have a massive pre season and give the blues something back next year

Armfield - will devolop into a nice run with player but at the moment doesnt look up to the presure of AFL especially with his disposal

grigg - potential star, got pumped up by ratts in the media a bit which put a bit of pressure on the kid.

Russel has glimpses of brilliance but he is no doubt a very frustrating player as he can only put together a quater or 2 and the goes missing. mb its fitness?

fevola - saw the best and worse of fev. got a really ruff deal with the umpires but he needs to become more disiplined and think TEAM

Saddington - Cya later.. thought he was drafted to plug a whole in defence but hes as affective as a bit a chewy pluging a gash in a pipe that was pissing out to be quite frank.

and finally ratts has to persist with hampson. only way he's gona develop into a A grade ruckman is to play against the best and try to better himself. most ruskmen get smashed for 3 year before they show anything...

comments welcome

- Carrots has been having good games lately. Impressive.

- Cloke had a great game by his standards, the 3 big men policy works well.

- Hampson took a great mark on the run - jeez this bloke is quick! An exciting talent

- Kreuzer is an archetype of the mentality we need to develop. He puts his HEAD OVER THE BALL at every opportunity - he never whinges for frees, he gets the bloody job done and doesn't squib EVER. Huge wraps for this kid. He will be an absolute ****ing star!

- Judd flew the flag a bit aha

- Fevola, though a ********, is in amazing form. Let's hope he can get the Coleman.

Isn't is funny how a first year 19yr old ruckman is not only one of our most reliable shots for goal, but also has one of the best mindset and attitude in the team.

I truly believe in future he may have the most influence and impact out of our three no.1 draft picks. It's a very exciting future.

Along similar lines to Dusty: North, on the back of an experienced core of strong seasoned bodies, great work ethic and even contribution across the ground are IMO the second best team in the competition and the only team that looks like they have a chance of toppling Geelong.

Our first quarter was a massive positive, the second quarter deflating and the fight back later in the game to get back to within 20 points was also a great positive given the opposition.

In other words the main positive was that we lost because the opposition were simply too good, not because we played badly.

Individually, Kreuze continues to impress, Cloke had one of his best games for Carlton, Carazzo another fine defensive game, Judd is so good around the stoppages but needs support, Grigg was great on an in form Wells and Fev's goal kicking was was a pleasure to watch.

On the flip side of the loss, playing against a genuine top 4 side... This will give our boys a vision of what it takes to get to where Nth are ATM... Aside from Harvey, they dont have any stars. They are just a hard working class outfit that plays for and with eachother week in week out. They showed us that all the stars in the world wont win you games, but a commitment from 22 blokes will.

In some respects the loss they way we did is a positive... if you can understand what i mean...

Positives: our youngsters are developing perfectly.

Positive:We have all pre-season next year to organise a 6 man forward line with the mindset of TEAM FIRST and organise a midfield with the mindset of TEAM FIRST and organise a backline with the mindset of TEAM FIRST.

At the moment our players are playing basically as 22 individuals. This is not a surprise really as TEAMWORK takes time and trust.

Ratts is a good man to build this over a few years.

Another good post, but Wells can play a bit. ;) :)

We would have learnt alot from the Roos both on and off the field with the way Laidley gets the most out of this 22 to have them in the finals. They're a very well drilled side and play to their strengthes when a spud such as Brown played and Power on his second chance. I'm still not convinced they have a bright future like the Hawks and will be a genuine contender in the next few years when their better players are old. They will lose Harvey, Simpson and Grant to retirement in the next few years and have a workmanlike backline (ranked seventh in the AFL for PA).

Good ruck division and young spine with Petrie a very good player and Hansen looking like he'll be a gun KPP.

Our seconds knocked off their's when they were undefeated at home all year.

Just thought of another positive:

We kicked 14.6, as opposed to 6.14. The goal kicking practise during the week must have helped. Cloke for one, looked far better in his action and he got a couple of goals.

Fisher kicked 2 or 3 goals...but I'm going to speak too soon about him, he could kick 3 straight behinds next week for all we know. TBH I don't remember much about his game.

Fev was obviously deadly accurate. That's the Fev we come to expect accuracy wise.

worth noting we have only a partial alignment with North Ballarat, there were 8 listed players playing for Werribee, including Hamish McIntosh. Still a very good win for the Bullants though.

Congrats on a great win. :thumbsu:

The AFL has underrated the Roos who are a great team and not a team of champions like several other so called top sides.

Haven't always feared them (that's changing fast) but have never stop respecting them. Have had to deal with all kinds of shit with ****-all assistance and have not only endured but are currently flying, certainly on the field. I'll say it again if Carlton fell over tomorrow I know where my allegiance would be. Hats off, Rooboys. You took us to school yesterday bigtime.

For mine, the biggest positive was that we showed that we are capable of playing the standard of footy required to beat a top 4 side (which i'd argue is actually the 2nd best team in the AFL at present).

Being able to play at that standard for a quarter is definitely better than not being able to play it at all, and if we can work on our application and maintain that standard for an entire game we'll beat most sides. The main difference yesterday (IMO) was that North maintained that standard all day, whereas we went missing for periods.

We're better for the run, and are only going to improve.

I think the only positive from the game was cameron cloke. at 195cm, he is a little short but he has fixed his kicking and is now taking some good marks

Don't know about anyone else but after Sunday's game I can see lots of positives.
