Well, obviously, I've come home expecting to see us celebrating a great win only to find we are thinking it was a carp effort, not even worthy of a nod or a wink, and instead lets get stuck into Mayne, Fyfe and Bradley for their "poor performances"???

FFS.

Can anyone else see how good a win that was? Or are Brisbane supposedly such easybeats that we can beat them hands-down without Barlow and Muz, with Elvis and Sandi going down before half time, and with a first gamer and two players playing their first games for the year off of WAFL reserves??

I mean, FFS - is no one else even a little happy with our drive and effort??

No-one??

No positives??

At least Mammaries and GrungyGarbage aren't around???

C'mon, there must be other good bits??

i was very happy given our recent form that we won a last quarter. i thought silvagni was awesome.

mellington earned his selection for next week set up a couple of goals and looked very good.

pav kicked 5.

honestly though, even if we won every game including the grand final some ********s on here would complain we didn't win by enough / this 50 gamer needs to be dropped etc. dont take it personally.

  • Palmer playing the tagging role well
  • Pavlich Dominating
  • Hayden and Silvagni successful returns
  • Mellington Debut showed a lot
  • Fyfe continued to take marks and expand
  • Broughton having free run over the ground and playing exceptionally

I really enjoyed the win, Pav back on track, the team showed some intent and passion in the last half................ just that another two injuries puts a dampener on things..... oh and if we had kicked goals, instead of points................ we would have SMASHED em.

Loved the win (with some beers) but really we were playing at home against a team that is probably worse than GC. We only won by 23 points and were in danger of losing the game till the last quarter. So in summary will take the win but not going to get over excited about it...certainly not a good enough win to make two threads about how amazing it was.

Couldn't fault the effort and intensity throughout, despite all the setbacks

SNOS being in our best 3 or 4 in his first game back. Such a class player.

Pav leading from the front

A lot of our 2nd tier players putting their heads over the ball

Some quality ins over the next 2 weeks

SNOS & Roger returning and having an impact!
Mellington's game - I was mighty impressed, he's worthy of lacing up Ballas boots it seems! Great desperation & game sense, a bit of mongrel was good too. Has the same two left feet that Ballas has though.
Pav & Broughts - Wow. Where have you been?!?
Fyfe - plugging away, as he does. Another quality game albeit a little quieter than normal.

Biggest Positive:

Sitting up the city end next to the brissy faithful and heckling them as they left early when it started to drizzle.

Biggest positives
Pav showing why he needs to spend more time forward.
Palmer showing why he needs to be midfield or not in team.
Mellington debut nothing special but gave it absolutely everything, attacked the man an ball with great courage an desperation.
Snos comeback game was fantastic
The pressure applied an hardness at the ball in final qtr.

They need to get the tapes out an highlight some of those efforts in the last qtr that should be the standard.
Anything less is unnacceptable.
Why did it take losing quality players to make the rest of the team lift an realise they need to give it everything if they want to win.

If they play that way for most the game every week for the rest of season we can still win about 5 more games

Were you there? Nothing special?? Crikey!!! Mate he was like having 2 Deboers.

- SNOS and Roger... boy have we missed these two in defence!
- Mellington's debut was brilliant. People might pick up the paper tomorrow, look at his stats and think 'oh, that's a pretty average debut'... but the thought of him, Ballas, Mayne and de Boer running around the forward line brings a smile to my face :D
- Greg Broughton played his best game ever statistically. Besides ruck, is there anywhere he can't play?!
- Pav stood up, led from the front and carried us across the first three quarters before everyone else joined the party.
- They didn't score in the last when the match was up for grabs. Without McPharlin. My faith in our blokes carrying out the forward press is restored.
- High Fyfe!
- Palmer did a job on Power and did some good stuff.
- McPharlin put his hand up to win a car.
- WE WON!

Palmer, showing a bit, if he can get rid of the yips he's nearly back.
Ibbotson was cool & classy all night.
MJ I thought was excellent. Was so thrilled when he put his body on the line to half that contest and then kicked the goal around his body after getting it back from Keps.
Mellington showed enough to say he will be a player.
Silvagni was superb.

yep was there what i meant by nothing special was stats wise.
Didnt do much with the ball or get on the scoreboard much.

Like i said absolutely loved his effort, attack on the ball an the man.

Absolutely, great to see him being able to string together a few solid games and starting to attack the contest :thumbsu:

- Zac Clarke... why isn't anyone mentioning Zac Clarke - that experiment, though I was weary to begin with, is actually working to great effect!
- Chris Mayne was superb with his forward line pressure... literally carried the side with his intensity to keep us in the match at quarter time (really wish he could get his kicking on goal sorted though)
- The Pav showed us his best is not yet beyond him
- SNOS pulled off one of the best performances of any Docker this year (and after half a game of WAFL ressies no less!)
- Roger Dodger, who many of us thought may be unable to get back to his best, showed he had lost none of his flair (I under-appreciated how big an 'in' these two were going to be this week)
- Ibbo, Duff and Lower had poor moments, then backed them up with absolutely inspiring efforts to make up for it
- Johnson was great, again (struggled to find form at the beginning of the year but please get off his back people)
- Fyfe
- Flyfe
- FLYfe
- Hilly struggled with the tag again yet still mustered 20+ possies
- Palmer kept power to 8 touches, yet gathered 22 going the other way. Our third B.O.G. only cos Broughts and Pav had epic matches
- Broughts was more than just a band-aid solution to our midfield woes, he absolutely smashed it tonight
- Second tier players like Clancee and Hinkley really showed something
- Josh Mellington will be a jet (and unlikely to get dropped by Harvey if he keeps on producing such selfless efforts). I at times couldn't believe I was watching an 18 year old throwing himself so hard at the footy and showing a bit of mongrel to Brisbane's bullying of him. I hope Micky Walters was watching...
- Matty De Boer was absolutely relentless, then very classy with his disposal going the other way
- We only lost two star players tonight, which considering our current shithouse run with injuries, is a win...

Make no mistake kids, this was one of our best wins of the year. We have been absolutely up against it this year and yet we're still somehow 7-6... This was just about the worst team on paper we put out all season - PLUS we lost arguably our two most important players early on... and yet we still came home with the bikkies!

Food for thought: West Coast, who are clearly a decent side, suffered similar heinous injuries last year and got the spoon. Is it no mean feat that we're still firmly in finals contention...? Be proud of the boys.

We won without mundy, barlow, suban, McPhee, ballantyne, Grover, morabito and mzungu who are all best 22.

We then lose mcpharlin and sandilands during the game. Amazing win in my books.

Yes - so we won without our most important midfielders (from both a structural and statistical point of view), our most important defender and our most important ruckman.

And we are still on track to make the finals for the second year in a row for the first time.

Cop that all you naysayers....

Should have ended sentence before this bit

agree with all of the above. I thought Clarke looked better when he went to CHB,this might end up being his position in years to come.

I am also glad to see Roberton back in the backline as I think he is potentially aplayer that could allow Broughton to move into the midfield.

Thanks E Shed for bringing this up - it was great to see. If MJ's poor form has been all psychological then that passage of play could be the point where we can look back and say he turned the corner.
I also enjoyed Mellington's AWESOME "line em up and take em out" tackle in the last quarter. :D
Lots of positives from last night. We played with a lot more intensity and weren't squibbing out.
