1. Twenty seven scoring shots, plus another two or three that got close but didn't register. Good to see we've had a significant number of scoring shots, even if the accuracy was woeful.
2. Mayne just keeps on keeping on - great kicking for goal, excellent chasing, and seems to have built an awareness with his other forward line mates of how to lead into space when we are attacking. Pleasantly surprised am I...
3. Ibbo and MJ - Ibbo is doing so very well at overhead contests (Duffield take note), I have never been a fan but gee he is doing well lately. His kicking under pressure is great too, doesn't seem to try to over kick it any more, just lowers his eyes, spots an option and generally finds the target. MJ's kicking was off a bit today, but he still gave a strong defensive effort, and even seems to have a bit of mongrel almost creeping into his tackling and attacks on the pack. Still not fully convinced, but every week he keeps this up gives me more hope.
4. Dawson - great work down back, knows when to run off his man and help out, and actually seems to be calmer under pressure this season than I recall he was when at St Kilda.
5. Sandi - welcome back big fella, gee we missed you. His mark in the forward 50 was an enticing snapshot of what we could see if he can spend more time resting down there and get the hang of contested marking consistently.
6. Pearce - in a very dour and rugby pack style of gameplan, this bloke really seems to have found a niche. Not perfect, won't ever win the Brownlow, but geez he is hard at it, tackles strong, gets the handballs out and has improved his ball drop so that his kicks under pressure are quicker and more accurate. Currently playing better than Barlow and Mundy, and filling a real key role for the side.
7. Barlow and Mundy both got through another full game each, both unscathed. Barlow's disposal still needs work, but Mundy just has soooo much kicking skill it is scary to think what he will be like at full fitness. Mundy ran this game out better than any of his other 2012 games.
8. Rosscoe Pekoe's three quarter time spray - very good to see, and it had the desired effect too. He is taking this gig very seriously, setting really high standards for the players, and showing a commitment, passion and intellet that bodes very well for the future of this and next season. Now if the players could just get the gameplan down a bit more...
9. Neale's courage and speed - his attack on the contest even when faced with a much bigger bloke was exceptional. And he recovered and played out the game. Not yet 20 and already has the making of a really gutsy, hard at it AFL footy player.

AND most importantly

10. Pav! Sparked us in the middle, when others seemed uninterested. Returned to goalkicking form, including a richly deserved 500th career goal. Third highest active goalkicker after Milne (501) and J Brown (504) - quite amazing really considering how much Pav has played down back and midfield. 51st player ever to kick 500 - what a champ, we have ourselves a real footy treasure, and a classy bloke to boot, I hope he stays involved with our club for a long time after he finally finishes up playing.

Also, forgot to mention how pleasing it was to see Elvis return to form - his best game of the year so far by quite some margin. Let's hope he improves further in next week's game against the Hawkers...

In the AFL for 2012, we are:

1st for hit-outs
2nd for defense (scored against)
3rd for tackles
4th for possessions
4th for contested possessions
6th for clearances
6th for disposal efficiency

One more game left for the round though.

All without really playing well
Still figuring out the game plan and getting the forward line right.. Can't wait for some big games, show them what we can do and play at a higher level instead of lowly teams in Port and Gold Coast. Barlow and Mundy still hitting their straps in terms of match fitness and disposal.

Barlow and Mundy have been a bit down for me - so while a negative right now, seeing them hit their straps is something to look forward to.
Spurr I enjoyed watching, Neale was solid, Hill was solid - loved his intercepts

Was loving the spray at 3/4 time - Ross was very animated waving his arms and went on for a good 5 minutes without taking a breath it seemed.

I'd agree with most of that BPG. Couple of highlights for me:

Mundy played his best game and is starting to get some sort of fitness going, but he's still a long way off and will get shown up next week against an elite midfield (in terms of fitness not skill).

DeBoer is continuing to impress and is starting to look confident in front of goals too which is gold to us and the way we play.

They're the two that jump to mind.

Yeah De Boer was great - always hard at it. Was impressed with his game and Maynes.

both of their kicking on goal has been very good, obviously. i really had no idea how successful a move that was going to be with de boer, but his contested marking has improved out of sight.

Yeah both of them are sticking marks confidently - Mayne was hanging his head all last season and had no confidence in front of goal. Now he's happy to take the kick and it's showing. Have a lot more confidence when he has the ball in hand now :P

Not so much with Crowley - who's a bit 50/50 at the moment with his shots on goal. And Hill who's shot made me cringe. Seeing Hill go for marks though - awesome to watch. Refresher - didn't he and Mayne go up for a flier at one point?

Agree re Ibbotson. He'd never convinced me he was going to be anything more than a flaky Freo flanker, but his 2012 has so far been bloody good.

He's really stepped up and added courage and consistency to his skill set. He and Mz would be my most improved so far this year.

I've always rated ibbo, my only knock on him was his lack awareness(getting rundown from behind, just stupid shite). This part of his game nowadays seems to be ironed out.Good stuff.

Our two (pav & mayne) leading goal kickers goal averages increased again for
2012.

Pav is tracking at 1.6, chopper 1.9 per game.

Clarke's avg. would've increased too if he'd kicked straight.

I think today we had thirteen individual goal & point scorers, pretty encouraging apart from the amount of behinds.

Looking forward to pav getting his goal avg. north of 2.0 gls per game soon.
Bit concerned at ballas lack of goals this year, need that to change soon, and our goal kicking mids to convert too.

ballas hasn't been his usual bellicose self - i wonder if he's output is down because he's trying not to get up in people's shit. must be a hard adjustment when you've done it all your life.

I was quietly confident that Ibbo had more to offer us. Remember he had a shocking pre-season last year and was injury impacted pretty much all year. Season before was also injury affected. He's a natural athlete and for a tallish mobile player sees the play unfold in front of him well. I'm glad he's coming good this year.

Positive thread, and really great OP.

A hard part that is not mentioned is the after game analysis that is linked to games like DT or SC. They never account for effort off the ball. They never account for a toe poke or fist. The all mighty smother gets ignored which often in todays game becomes a goal to the other team.

Andrew Browne was the best at that in my opinion. I think McPhee gives more heart than most Dockers, and makes more mistakes for it, he needs to relax. Still I would pick him. I wrote off Clancee. The man from the snowy river. Good for you, awesome. The war horse.

Little things win matches, the football is not great, but the defence has me so so so happy. I think we might even beat the Hawks. They are soft!

Ibbo - I had written him off, but disposal and defensive stuff was very good today.

Fitness - we are finishing games very strongly.

Pav - 4 in the game to get his 500th in front of us.

Dawson - solid game with no WTF moments down back.

Scoring shots - we are getting alot, improve accuracy and things are looking better.

Not to jump the gun, but the same thing was said about Dane Swan early in his career, pretty sure some chumps on the C'wood board have it as their signature. Just sayin'

1st for hit-outs

All this with minimal the help of Mundy/Barlow/Fyfe, so really, our mid tier which is in stark contrast to the Freo of old.
