Here is a hypothetical,

Trade our first pick (probably 3 and Cale Morton, or equivalent) for Patrick Dangerfield?

We would have to offer a massive contract and with the likes of Green and Davey nearing the end of their deals it could be the perfect opportunity to add a player of this calibre to our list.

He has genuine leg speed which is supported by the fact he won the 100m and 400m Victoria Secondary Schools Athletics.

His home state is Victoria so that could add some currency to our bid too.

Thoughts?

Can't imagine Adelaide would want to let paddy go, but if they were he would be a huge pickup for us. How does trading our first pick affect our ability to get Jack Viney?

equivalent = spud

Sorry, couldn't resist, funny stuff. I'm sure Crows would jump at the chance.

I genuinely agree...but if a deal was to be struck the trade would depend more on dangerfield than Adelaide...if he wants to leave and we offer bigger $$$ than the crows I'm sure that trade won't look like the worst offer.

We don't have to use our concession picks for father-son players, and I assume if we trade our first pick (say pick 3) then we use our next pick available...assuming one of GWS or Suns bid for Viney...meaning we would use our 2nd round pick if we trade our first round, but need clarification on that.

F/S is done before trade week, so those picks are already set in stone.

concession picks cannot be used for father son, however the bidding happens before trade week begins so if someone bids on Viney before our first pick nd we still except to take him, that pick is locked away nd cannot be traded..

But I believe our first pick can only be activated for f/s players by teams below us, GWS or Suns?

For example if someone above us bids for Viney we use our next available pick?

That is correct, but you and everyone else here needs to start accepting the fact that one of the teams that finishes below us WILL bid for Jack Viney. There is no risk involved for whoever does bid on him as we will not be entertaining the thought of letting him go to another club. With all of the rules in place to help even out the competition (draft, salary cap etc) clubs do whatever they can to gain a competitive advantage. If that means bidding on a player you have no intention of selecting so your opposition doesn't get a free ride, then that is exactly what they will do. The only way we get Jack in the second round is if we finish last, a thought that sends me to a place darker than the hole I was in post 186.

Our picks that hold some potential trade value are the two compo selections. There is scope to use one or both of these on an exciting 23 year old, but it would take an amazing deal to entice someone to our club at the moment.

I'm pretty sure Adelaide won't accept that trade offer. We'd have to throw in the likes of Moloney..
I don't really care about getting players via trade I'd rather get the young guns in one of the deepest drafts in a while.

At little early for throwing players of no value up for trade isn't it?

Crows wouldn't do it in a million years.

As pointed out above our father-son pick for Viney is locked in before trade week, so it would be pick four and Morton for Dangerfield (assuming we finish 16th).

Don't know about anyone else but I reckon that's overs.

They screwed us on the Scotty Thompson trade so i reckon they should give us a decent deal if Dangerfield wants to come back to Vic

I would pay for moloneys flight and drive him to the airport if it meant getting Patrick dangerfield...also how's the draft gone for us?

Don't be sold on this thought of a 'deep draft'

Isnt this just too early to be talking trades- this should be left at least until September:confused: Do we still have some games left in 2012:(

The only problem with us doing trades like this is that we are playing like crap. Very few players would see us as an attractive destination or a place where playing ambitions are fulfilled. Dangerfield has more prospect of playing finals if he stays in Adelaide. He'd have to be pretty darn homesick to leave Adelaide for us.

LOL @ Cale Morton, in the real world we would need to offer something like this:

Pick 4 and Luke Tapscott

for Adelaide first rounder (assuming they make the 8) and Patrick Dangerfield.

Having said this, i very very much doubt Paddy is going anywhere, seemed very happy in the post match interview on Saturday night. While the Crows are winning he wont be moving.

Make sure to water the MFC so his porcelain skull doesn't shatter when he hits the turf.

The six goals he kicked the following week suggest his skull is in pretty good nick.

However if we were to entertain trading for him, get his physical done by independents. Those Crow doctors are dodgy bastids.

I would rather pick 3....... for starters and Morton is showing value or more of it this year even ass a sweetener.

Pick 3 is a Judd, Franklin, Martin, Bennel type

As already mentioned in another thread pick 3 or 4 can also get you a pretty average player. Let's not be selective about who goes at these picks - we all know it goes both ways.
