The myth that Troy Menzel is injury prone is IMO overrated. He did a knee as a 16yr old and it was an impact injury as a result of a collision.
Dan Menzel is injury prone with dodgey knees, yes, I agree. He has done multiple knees just changing direction.
In hindsight would you not draft Lever because he did an ACL as a junior?
Pretty sure T Menz ACL was a LARS. Bit of a ticking time bomb. I get nervous every time I seen him fall down.

Really hope his knees are stable for the next 15 years for both of them - but to say one is safer than the other is, IMO, still risky.

As for he GFC, can't see any reason why we would be in that discussion. WE have other priorities.

Are the empirical stats for LARS long-term success rates any worse than for trad knee recos?

The only thing I enjoyed from Geelong was watching DMenz play. What a phenomenal comeback & what mental strength being out of the game that long.

Sounds like a great research project for you.
Dan's LARS did not go well and I know in the NFL, several 4 clubs refuse to use them for the graft attachment issues that have been encountered.

The only thing any GFC supporter enjoyed was the same I can assure you.

LARS has been used for about 30 years now. I find it hard to believe they'd still be doing it if it was rubbish.

There are no good KPDs in our draft range this year, or none that I consider worthwhile taking with a first rounder. It's all good and well to say that we need a KPD, but the stock has to be there to take in the first place...

Menzel doesn't have that top end speed, no, but he has literally everything else. You can never have enough quality. If you get him for maybe Kerridge and a 2nd rounder then that's a steal IMO.
Haven't I had a conversation with you about this already? We can't be wasting our first for players that aren't an area of need.

Kerridge and a 2nd? I'd drive Sam to the airport myself if that's all it took but not our first.

I still can't get over how many people sounds like they're on the table.

Even if we lose Dangerfield, as long as we get reasonable compo there will be lots of assets available and we're an attractive destination.

I'm pretty sure LARS has a higher re-injury rate than the traditional reco.

If our club has balls and does the right thing and matches the Danger deal sending it to trade, I think if we got Cockatoo and their first pick, or Motlop and their first pick that would be acceptable.
Then the first pick off to Brisbane for Aish. Our second rounder and Lyons off to Collingwood for Scharenberg. Now somehow, just somehow, we need to turn our first rounder into one good enough to draft Francis. If we cant then I would love to see us pick up Ryan Burton. He is going to be a gun and I wouldnt worry about the broken leg, Jake Stringer had one similar and WB took the punt on him.
So out Danger, Lyons
In Motlop/Cockatoo, Aish, Scharenberg and Burton.
Thats a good year.

There is some chat about Burton on the dogs forum, but their broken legs are not similar. Stringers was a bad, but 'clean' break right through the middle of the ..whats it called the Tibia? right in the middle of that. Whereas Burton has broken his in a weird place right up near the knee and stuffed tendons and stuff.

It's a pretty special trade period this year. Carlton in full rebuild fire sale mode, Brisbane bleeding talented south aussies, GWS needing to clear out cap space and then future pick trading on top. We bloody well better cash in on this feeding frenzy

I like Atkins on one and Sloane on the other instead.

Hopefully Atkins has a big pre-season. Not sure he's fit enough to run up and down the wing all day for a whole AFL season just yet. Could probably say the same for Mayes at this stage after his injury trouble too though I suppose.

Either way, for me, I'd be targeting Mayes over Redden.

Yes, the metres gained and the manner in which he gains them means Smith is most damaging off half-back.

It takes time to transition into being a full time midfielder at AFL level. That game of his against Collingwood in the midfield was amazing. If we could get that out of him consistently as a midfielder, then...

Atkins was earmarked for making his debut early by Walshy on the wing and then got injured just before our first pre-season game. He's fit enough.
