Doesn't affect us so I dont really care. Milera the only possibility of impacting on us, if we intend on taking him at 13? I think McKay will be taken at 13 anyway. Pick 9 will probably be a midfielder given we are getting Menzel.

And what matured ruck were we going to get that was worth getting? Reilly O'Brien already beats the SANFL ones and he's 20.

I think the issue is O'Brien may not be ready for the AFL. If Jacobs goes down then it will be trial by fire and we will soon know (although we still have Lowden too yeah?).

As for the defence....again we have some good players growing into those positions. We really need a ready made tall defender to steady the ship and accelerate growth. It may well be the difference from winning a flag in the next two or next five.

My God winning flags is hard. I feel like we have not won one in 18 years. By the time players naturally grow into a position, GC and GWS will probably be powerhouses and our opportunity could slide. Tough gig I reckons.

Matt Crouch will never be an AA selection (Thompson 2012), nor will he ever win a club B&F (Thompson 2011, 2012). He's just not that good.

He hasn't had a pre season yet ...hold fire or look silly

The odds of thommo being AA at same age were lower

It will come down to his mental application more than his ability in my opinion

That said, posters like you and I who tend to hold pretty similar views on most things AFC would acknowledge that these are the types of trades we've been screaming out for.

For mine, if we deal Kerridge + 28 for Menzel then it's a no risk high reward strategy. The kid oozes talent and hasn't flourished in his current environment with a pissweak culture and a vacuum of leadership.

I'm rationalising it like this: I'm sure there were times when cats fans wanted to throttle Stevie J too but he countered that with sheer brilliance. I hope Menz will be a similar beast for us. If he busts, meh - we tried and spent not much in doing so. If he fulfills his potential then we've pulled off highway robbery.

Tough position to be in. They got no depth in the ruck spot. If Ryder goes down then they are SOL without Lobbe. May as well hold on to him for another year.

His ceiling is closer to Tyson Edwards. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, given that Edwards wasn't an inside mid, but he's the closest I can come up with to make my point. Edwards was a really good player, but he was never in the running for the B&F, nor was he a Brownlow Medal contender (Thompson finished equal 4th in 2012), nor was he ever in contention for AA selection.

I'm expecting Crouch to be a good player, who has a long and health AFL career. He's just never going to be in that top echelon, the way that Thompson was at his peak in 2011/2012.
