I really hope you don't think getting goals with 18 opponents in the back 50 is a matter of riding the momentum wave.

The ball was in our forward half for most of the last five minutes. You are a fool.

perhaps watch the game a little closer, they had numbers back at centre bounces, then once the ball was in a stoppage situation, they moved up and crowded the stoppage area.

And also watch the game a little closer to realize most of the stoppages were between the arcs, including the most important stoppages of the game.

If you were happy with the set ups and outcomes of the stoppages, then you are setting yourself up for some poor results

Plain and simple... got r*ped...

Walkers decision was probably correct as it was tough, but digs arms gettin chopped (resulting in lecras goal) and lynch dropping the ball in our 50 were just no brainers and should have been paid...

Is there anyone who feels a bit disappointed that Walker did not make a 100% effort for that contest instead of putting his hand up for a free kick. I would have hoped that he would have put total focas into getting the ball in any situation especially when the game was so tight.

Lots of ..... experts with expert insight

Thought Ratts coached very well the other night

Anyway..our coach ... your coach .. lol

agree totally. nothing frustrates me more then when a player plays for a free kick and stops going for the ball, regardless of whether the free kick is there or not

Walker's commitment there is as bad as Judd's kicking which is wrongly questioned. Some muppet even bagged Walker's effort in last year's final for not going hard enough at Joseph's terrible kick out of the backline. It's laughable to question Judd's kicking and decision making like he's David Clarke or Andrew Carrazzo. Judd is one of the few players we have who you can trust to take risks and deliver it quickly under pressure to the spots the defenders hate. Posting crap helps no one.

last time i checked this was a forum and a duscussion to discuss football

This thread was opened to discuss saturday nights game and that is what im doing. Sorry if you are to one eyed and lack any knowledge of the game to participate.

It was something i think should have been tried in such a tight situation when it was obvious the blues couldn't get there hands on the tapouts and is something most of the top sides use in tight situations.

Also think the rest of Ratts coaching throughout the night was good and he deserves an extension after his efforts this year.

Next time grow up and take someone elses opinion on board

Personally i thought Ratts coached poorly late in the game.

The blues were getting smashed in the ruck all night (hitouts 61-38)
Late in the game, all the eagles wanted to do was get numbers around the stoppages and kill the contest, and every time cox or nat would tap it down at the feet and the eagles would get what they wanted.

Why wouldn't you try having a 3rd man up in the ruck contest, such as Robinson to come over the top and smash it into space, or simply down the throat of a carlton player.
All the top clubs do this. Collingwood (Pendulbury & Thomas) Hawthorn (Lewis & Hodge)
Geelong (Bartel & Selwood) St.kilda ( Goddard & Dal Santo)

Carlton had the run in the legs and more speed then the eagles at the end of the game and needed to utilise this by having a 3rd man up to knock it into all that space created by the eagles flooding the stoppage.

And If you need to win stoppages, it beats the life out of me why you would have one of your best stoppage players in Murphy sitting in a forward pocket when the game had to be won. Just a couple of areas i thought Ratts could have done better with.

The time we tried 3rd man up and the extra Eagle at the contest got the clearance.

Maybe Murphy was resting in the forward pocket rather than on the bench.

My advice to you would be to show respect when posting on a Team Board.

Remember where you are.

Well sure it;s a forum, I don;t have to agree with everything that;s posted...
your opinion is fine, maybe we should have made more of our opportunities in front of goal early on, Gibbs or Thornton would have been handy when the game was tight and some responsibility goes to the players.
I suppose I'm a bit tired of Ratten being criticised.
Anyway. no need for a personal attack, I see you are new, advice : you need to respect the supporters of the board your on...

Agree with those saying we lost it with the MC. CANNOT believe they left out Hammer, if Kruezer and Waite were fit, they would both be playing, so why not go in with the same structure?
1 ruck
1 resting ruck
1 perm forward
+ Thornton as swingman

They've played this structure numerous times throughout the year, so why not when we really need it.

VERY POOR DECISION MC

It's been mentioned a million times that Hampson rolled his ankle last week. Hampson hasn't played a game since round 13. Far too underdone to be played in a final. We made the right call after Hanneberry's shoulder kept popping out against Hawthorn. Everyone would still be bagging Ratten if we had picked an injured player who broke down again.

Hopefully we have Kreuzer, Gibbs, Russell, Waite and Lucas playing next year.

Can't go past Ratts assessment - it was a game of inches. Fiercely contested footy and the game could have gone either way. When unpredictability of the ball is taken into account (i.e. the Kennedy long bomb or the Garlett goal in the last quarter) the umpiring was just another unpredictable factor in an uncertain outcome.

No doubt we missed Gibbs, Waite and Kreuzer, particularly Kreuzer. Had he been playing I doubt the Weagles would have gained the ascendency in the ruck that they did over a game Warnock. Obviously Waite would have been an important target forward and Gibbs is just a very good footballer where ever he is on the ground. I would have put him on Embley to shut him out of the game.

It is interesting to think that the Weagles very nearly beat the Pies without Kerr and with Cox out of the game after quarter time. Cox and Kerr were clearly the Weagles best against us. Without those two I think we would have run all over the them. We are unlucky not to still be in the race and I am sure, if we were, we would be every chance for the Cup.

For 2012 I want to recruit just one thing - Luck. Go Blues.

So you are suggesting the MC should have selected a player who was injured during the week? Perhaps we should have selected Kreuzer with his 'dead foot' just to make sure we had the structure right.

Agree with Nerv, DE% is the biggest joke of a stat imo, it means sweet FA, sure he butchers the ball sometimes, but so does everybody! IMO he's improved his goal-kicking as of late though..

Anyway, congrats guys on a successful year, you may've fallen a little short of where you wanted to be but that happens, it's all about improvement and you've certainly made a significant improvement on last year despite only going one game further.
Next year is going to be scary with the increasing possibility of playing you guys in a final.

Good luck in the offseason (just stay away form Dawes and we can be friends :p), cya next year with a healthy, improved list

When is that ever going to happen... not in my life time :D

As for Dawes... with all the big name re-signings for large contracts to keep them out of the hands of GWS, you guys dont have the money now to pay him what he is worth and there are a few other clubs floating about with the spare cash from the back of the couch that will possibly make a play for him.

If we go after him, it will be because we have identified him as a solution to one of our needs and we will offer a fair deal for him. However, your boss, Eddie Everywhere will probably not do a deal with us because he is a w***er who hates us as much as we hate the pies.

On the couch review of the semi final

Thanks so much Wookie for your efforts with these previews, reviews, just great :thumbsu:

This one with Paul Roos....he talks mainly of himself and his coaching at Subiaco against West Coast, talk about conceited

Overall though a good year by the blues and will be an even bigger force next year

I have not watched game again but remember us going 3rd man up a couple of times and losing

I need selling on Hammer being injured as excuse for not picking him. How many emergencies did we take over there ????

I have now remembered Bower but going in with one ruckman - if something happened to Warnock pre game , I figure they were going to play Hammer
