Autopsy Post game Pies loss to Eagles

Regarding our game plan there are a few things which do my head in.
At the centre bounce why is there always a mid on his own waiting for the quick backwards handball. We seem to concede a lot of easy centre clearances. And today we were playing a side who has the freak Nic Nat playing for them, you know he is going to win the hit outs yet there mids were quite often standing unmanned.
Also we need to do something about the overlap. I know Bucks wants us to be a hard defensive side but when every player goes to the man with the ball it leaves others on the outside ready to take an easy clearance.

Pretty much agree with this on Jesse. Always gives his best effort but seems to poo his pants under any sort of pressure, which isn't a desirable trait for an AFL footballer. We aren't winning a flag this year so its not like his presence is doing any real damage but finding someone who is a better 2nd tall is hopefully a priority

The biggest problem with White is that he simply drops to many marks that he should take.

Scharenberg is not ready for senior football. Watching him in the twos, you can see his potential, glimpses of what he can do. But he is still tentative, and against Footscray last week was pulling out of contests.

The match committee have reasons for not playing guys. We dont know all the reasons, but they are there.

We had players out there tonight that are not AFL Footballers. Big one is Seedsman

Kennedy is a burn merchant imv.

We're a young team, the 6th youngest in the league, and we need to nut out our best 22. Maynard is the future down back as the Toovey replacement. Scharenberg or Langdon hopefully for Oxley.

I find it hard to make a call on White's game. I thought he was trying his guts out. I've never seen him work so hard. He was contesting beautifully and smashing into packs. I applaud his effort, yet he actually did less than usual. It's weird, he effort was actually decent for once, but he played even worse than usual. Just isn't a very good player.

The bolded still doesn't excuse the supporters Bronx cheering him in the last.

He is a third forward at best.

Can someone please explain why he goes up with one arm all the time?

Like you said Joely his effort was ok he just had a stinker like a few of his team mates.

Thought Kennedy done some nice things tonight and would like to see him start every game for the rest of the season. Reckon with younger players it's not just them getting used to the pace of AFL, but also their team mates having confidence in them. I sit up on the wing and couple of times tonight Kennedy gut ran to create space, but his leads were ignored.

Grundy and a lesser extent Witts I don't think we kicked it to their advantage enough either kicking over their head or on their head. I lost count of how many times we kicked to the goal line and yeah Grundy and Witts fumbled, but if that kick was 10 to 20m out it would have been a lot harder to rush it through.

That was pretty awful to watch at the ground. Only the Eagles poor conversion that kept us in it until 3 qtr time.

Varcoe was fantastic. Sidebottom was everywhere, although his usage was a mixed bag, some great some poor. Pendles was Pendles. De Goey and Greenwood were pretty good I thought. Fasolo tried to fill the gap left by Cloke and Elliott, but it was too much for him to do.

The inability of White and Grundy to take a contested mark hurt. One or two pieces of play aside, Seedsman was godawful. Most others well not great.

I'm going to say this, and expect to get heat for it, but Grundy at this stage is a myth. His performances in no way reflect the level at which people rate him. It's ok, because he's only young and you can see he has scope to become good, but he's not at the moment. Witts was well beaten by Natanui today, but did more in the ruck and up forward.

Cloke out for us is massive. If he misses multiple weeks, we are going to seriously struggle to win enough games to make the 8. He left a yawning chasm of a hole going forward. Definitely a case of you not realising how much we need him til he wasn't there.

Kennedy was ok without doing anything too notable. He did look dangerous a couple of times crumbing in the forward line, but couldn't finish it off.

White isn't the problem, he's averaging 12 disposals and one and a half goals, that's fine for a 2nd key that helps out in the ruck

I don't want anyone in the team who can't kick over 35m

The past 4 weeks when the game was there to be won, no one stepped up!

I mean no one, not Pendles, not Swan, not Cloke or White or Elliot or anyone.
NO ONE!
Our so called elite match winners just aren't anymore.

This is something I've noticed over the past few weeks, my take is that he tries to knock it over the back, so he can then burn the defender with his greater agility once the ball hits the deck.

I don't mind the overall direction we are heading in but to get their we have to dump players that will not stand up in sept.

Seedsman has to go he is soft, can't defend man on man, and misses his targets by foot.

Tonight just confirmed what a liability he will be hopefully we trade him out.
Agreed.
