Thought Webster looked good on his left but second half our forward line was hopeless

Composure

Ei thinks ahead and executes.

Wow Dunstan is clean.

Hickey isn't the traditional ruckman and makes good decisions.

Webster has a lovely kick.

(Imagine when billings comes in)
Imagine when Billings and Steven comes in

Love the fact we won contested possession, tackles, and clearances. I thought Hickey held his own against 3 ruckmen (with support from Stanley)
Dunstan, Eli, Ray, Joey, Lenny, Newnes all played well. WEbster and Wright tried hard on taller opponents. Savage tried hard too. Roo was immense in the first half and tried hard in the second half. Stanley did a lot of good things too.

Our defence did well after losing Gilbert. Delaney did a lot of good things....

Generally happy with the umpires and how they are letting it go. In the past I've banged on about inconsistency of decisions but didn't recall any this game.

Our turnovers costs us though which is due to fitness, bigger bodies, and experience.

A lot to like and think we're a chance at home against the Crows next week.

Imagine when Billings and Steven comes in

Yes not many have mentioned Jack was our most influential mid last season and he hasn't played a game yet.

I think we'll have a lot of games like this in 2014. Do really well in most games due to our aggression and attack at the ball but turnovers, errors, fitness, youth, inexperience will cost us. On the flip side, we are well set in 3 years time when all these kids will be more battle hardened!!

Good:
- The Manimal.... Dunstan! You are 1000x better than anything McEvoy could offer, and to think we got Acres & Savage too.... Hmmmm which idiots still think we lost this trade?!?!
- Lenny the old bull... Still doing what he does best & that's winning the ball or making opposition 'moos' earn it
- Roo... Our tireless leader, still at the top of his game
- the young blokes! Stoked with their effort. Hope they continue to put in like that every game. Templeton, Saunders, Newnes, Webster, Wright, Curren... Keep digging in boys, love the work rate & endeavour

Bad:
- Who kept running into the square early at the centre bounces????? That is unforgivable, & to do it 4 times in one match.... F***ing hell, lift your game!
- Short ass backline.... No knock on the blokes who played tonight, but Where is the 197cm Josh Bruce?! Would have been super handy tonight!
- Composure.... It will come with experience, but some very costly turnovers in the 2nd half
- Cox & his f***ing flailing arms bullshit in the ruck at boundary throw-ins trying to milk free kicks... Been doing it for 10 years & the umps still get sucked into that shit
- Gilbert's injury... Need his experience out there, hope its not to serious, but the moon boot doesn't look good

If jack was to come back in who would he replace , assuming gilbo- Bruce

Great all round effort. Luke d bog what a star. Eli played a great game he would gobble up that shot in the third 99 out of 100. Very happy with our heart. Adelaide will be very worried about the trip to the dome. Interesting to see how we respond. well done fellas.

Good:
  • Alan Richardson's Match Day Coaching. We were severely undermanned height wise after the loss of Gilbert. Noticed that until at least the midway through the fourth, there was a concerted effort to flood the corridor of the Wet Toast forward 50. This forced the inside50's either wide to the pockets or to just barely inside the 50 (i.e. 45+m out from goal). Forced a lot of hard set shots, which meant we were rarely exposed for height, and if the ball came in high, there were at least 2 saints going up against each eagle.
  • Luke Dunstan, what a blend of inside grunt and outside polish. I expected him to be quite the inside monster, but I have certainly been surprised by his poise on the outside. What a player on our hands. He's essentially a left footed Oli Wines. What a bloody steal.
  • Jimmy Webster, had to play on Darling tonight. His disposal is fantastic, and did a fairly decent job on the man, given the 15kgs Darling has on him. Really pleased with his vision as well, that little 15m chip to Dunstan for his second goal was a beauty.
  • Rhys Stanley, really enjoyed his game tonight. Disappeared towards the end, but had a hand in many important forays into our inside50. His decision-making and game sense has steadily improved each game this year. Give him time, he could surprise a lot of us.
  • Nathan Wright, what an absolute gritty player. The key 1v1 mark, with him being the last man between the eagles and the goals on the wing, they had about 4 front runners (Crippsy included) ready to pounce, but stood his ground and took a wonderful grab.
Bad:
  • Not much to complain about this week, we played hard, as a group.
  • Probably the only frustrating thing was Maister dropping marks, but he did seem to impact a few more contests this week which is always good. Longer should probably get a gig instead of him next week though.
  • Composure struggled a bit late in the game, but as the team plays together more, and the kids build on their tanks for a couple of preseasons, we'll be in fine nick.

Most on here would know i am abit Bias towards Stanley.

But surely that was one of his best games for us? I thought he did very well.
Yeah, ive been critical of his efforts over the yrs but I really liked his first half. Took some timely marks. Good game for him. To string 2 or 3 good games together is the real challenge for him.
Positive signs:thumbsu:

so there are differing opinions here, on whether Delaney was good or or bad? which is it?
I guess what I was told by a fellow NM supporter at the end of last year is true. Delaney is a pretty good KPD, but his disposal isn't that great at times. Jonesy fell back to the 2012 Jones which was a bit disappointing.

Will post a proper in/out/review tomorrow.

Great
Dunstan - 3rd game and has most possessions in the match with 29
Tackling, intensity - seems a carryover from Richardsons time with Port Adelaide. Teams will know they have played us
We won clearances against what is considered one of the best midfields going around
Montagna - stunning first half. Got a knock on leg start of third quarter seemed to slow him down. Great skills and excellent game
Courage - the young guys aren't phased by anyone They were not rattled by West Coast or the trip to Perth

Good
Roo - as always
Stanley - excellent game Marked cleanly Kicked very well Rucked strongly with Cox and out jumped Nic Nat He is definitely getting better each week. You can see his confidence growing
Hickey played very well against quality opposition
Ray - another excellent game He seems to be loving the role given to him by Richo and is doing very very well at it
Delaney - a quite achiever
Webster / Eli / Wright / Saunders / Newnes - another game, great effort, more experience
Hard to keep up the level of intensity we were demanding in order to crowd the game and not give clean delivery to the West Coasts forward line. We did it for nearly three quarters so so well, but very hard to keep up for the game.

Bad
We could have done with Bruce instead of Gilbert in the side. Gilberts out made it even harder to match up on their falls
Savage - a better game, more possessions, but his lack of precision with his kicking is frustrating
Maister has courage by the bucket. He presents and leads well And he does have a tank, but is not looking like taking any game on
Lenny has slowed and is making more mistakes than I think I have ever seen him make. Would think that is definitely his last season. He wouldn't want to go around unless he was at the top of his game (yes I know he got 22 possessions, but a lot of errors in his game tonight)

The Good:

Usual suspects stood up again.
Dunstan will give the Rising Star a serious shake this year.
We held up ok in the 4th.
Wasn't the drubbing everyone expected.
we will only improve when Steven, Schneids and even Fisher come back.

The Bad:

Gilbo.
When we went forward in the last there was no one home. Not sure if this was a deliberate flood or what.
Lack of composure and fumbles... blame it on lack of experience and their pressure.

WCE had a serious press happening at the end. How much of this was lack of legs or what, but they really took control.

However, we were competitive and never gave up against a better top 4 contender.

Wondering if Roo was injured. He copped a heavy knock by Maister, went to the rooms and never seemed to recover. Perhaps just a coincidence.
