I liked the efforts of Broomhead, Greenwood, Aish and De Goey today but Aish does get pushed off the ball too easily.

Howe and Dunn were really good

Maynard has improved a lot this year liked his game

Adams disposal was terrible

Smith was terrible and should be dropped for Varcoe after the bye

Langdon was poor would not be playing if Goldsack and Reid were not injured. Reid takes his spot if fit after the bye.

We need another tall target to go with Moore

Furious. Where do i begin.

Its easy to focus on individual calls but more importantly, I was under the impression in the last 5 minutes of a close game, the umpires would try their best to not let weak, 50/50 calls decide the outcome of the game... Free kick was 10-2 in the last Q if I'm not mistaken? Time and time again teams were officiated differently.

I can take loosing. We have had our ups and downs the past few years, we get through it, but i can't take a game clearly impacted by biased officiating.

Frees 10-2 in the last quarter.

GTFO.

We lost that game in the first half.

Don't kid yourselves.

Whilst I wasn't overly thrilled with the umpires' interpretation of holding the ball today that was dubious at best, our first half whilst brilliant was also poor.

We dominated general play, scored free willing, and controlled the ball.

Yet we gifted Melbourne 6 goals from our own turnovers that were unforced and pressure free or from a free kick.
Considering the created nothing for a half for all their scores to be as a direct result from us was disappointing.

Can't knock the effort or the manner in which we played because we were daring, we ran hard, we zipped the ball around and took risks but unforced errors with no pressure to speak of hurts.

What did Buckley spin at the press conference?, did he use the "we lowered our colours line?" or comment on the umpires?

Yes, given our injuries would like to see him stay in the team. Would much rather Brown getting games than recalling Blair.

Daicos and Kirby is where its at both might not be quite ready aerobically but both bring genuine xfactor and class to the team.

Likely we wont see them till last few games if the seasons shot if at all.

all the so called pundits..all of the numbers..blah blah blah..they never call it as they see it..the most telling point of the game was the massive BOOING after this game..and it was fully justified..it began on Thursday up here in Sydney with the 4 umpires..for some bizarre reason it simply doesn't work...the holding the ball rule is?? if a pie player takes it under he's pinged..same thing in Pies fwd zone melb player dives on it..its a ball up..and what about the hit on Dunn? at centre half back?..what happened to protecting the players head region??..GWS yesterday got some shockers as well..but i feel your pain Pies fans..this was utter utter theft by the amateur, below par officiating..and the Boos told me and thousands of others they absolutely despise seeing a game decided by poor officiating..

Out played when it counted ,lack of will to roll up the sleeves when it was time to get our hands dirty.
Congrats to Melbourne clearly the better team in the second half and Howe what a mark.

Who cares, over the excuses, he wont be coaching us next year, 4 years with no finals is inexcusable for even Eddie. Roos or Ratten should be coaching us next year, and they will get this team to a level it should be...

It was infuriating. We FINALLY kicked straight and could have absolutely BELTED them. But it was like we felt sorry for them on their special day and CONTINUALLY gave them goals.

4 in the first half and at least 2 more in the second half. Take away those 4 goals (the umps gave them another 2) and we go into half time 8 goals up. Game over.

Usual Collingwood performance. Fight it out to the very end only to just lose. It's been the norm for 4 years now.
I don't like blaming umpires, but **** me the were bad.

If we're up by 40-50 at half-time, we don't lose.

I fail to see how you don't understand that.

I don't how so many are ignoring that first half. All they see is "Collingwood up by 4 goals" and think everything was fine and dandy.

The way we gave them free goals was EASILY the worst I've seen from us this season. The only reason it didn't stand out (to most) was because we actually kicked straight to give us the edge.

A 5% better game from our Captain and we take the bickies, he tackled hard but otherwise was really disappointing.

Only at the coal face.
His defensive run like most weeks is a slow jog to give the appearence of "running back", his opponent however are sprinting so get loose fwd and create out numbered situations.

Pendles is a champ but he and treloar really need to lift their games in this area.

I said it in the 'Unpopular opinions' thread,

Not a captains backside, IMO.

Treloar should be ashamed with himself, too.

Everything's already been said that can be said about umpiring. Just perplexing and the inconstancy in HTB frees is the biggest problem in the AFL now by far. The ones against Greenwood and Broomhead (I think it was him?) late were definitely 50/50 but arguably there (you can guarantee they wouldn't be paid in a final though). But then one minute later Hunt gets run down and there's no disposal of the ball and it's, I presume, knocked out in the tackle? Ball wasn't even knocked out but I just don't know what holding the ball is anymore?

Think Speshal Ed has nailed it, lost it in the first half. We had the ascendancy and every goal Melbourne seemed to score seemed to come off a turnover. A bad turnover at that. Just kept them in the game and should have been about a 40 point lead rather than than 25 or so it was. Think our inexperienced backline got exposed a little as well (just on the basis of being inexperienced). Smith, Maynard, Scharenberg, Langdon all made some bad mistakes today as well as the more experienced guys like Adams and Sidebottom. Got Reid, Goldsack, Varcoe and Sinclair (I rate him as best 22) to come back into that backline/half-back line. Can't help but feel even one of those guys in could have made the difference.

Just stopped winning the contested ball in the second half and Melbourne were able to slow down our loose ball movement as well.

Still some positives to come out of the game though. We played some seriously good footy in patches and the forward line looked lively without Elliot at times. Thought De Goey won some important contests, Crocker and Phillips kicked some ripper goals. Fasolo did some really nice things. Brown showed some real ticker. He looks a bit light and maybe a bit off the pace of AFL at this stage. Perfectly understandable though given he's a first year debutant, looks to have a real hunger for the contest and liked seeing how often he was on the bottom of the pack.

Could have gone either way but again think we're more the victim of our own mistakes rather than being completely outplayed, although there were elements of both throughout the game. Bye's come at a good time and hopefully get Reid, Varcoe and Elliot back in 2 weeks time.

Tends to be a bit timid in ground contested situations doesn't he.

Needs to add a good 10kgs of muscle.
To be honest I didn't mean to single him out but it just happened at the wrong time for us.
Not sure if adding muscle mass will solve this problem either.
We can afford to let this go to the keeper if he's utilised properly - up forward.
And not in no man's land land on the wing like he was today.

Aish was the other noticeable culprit in that regard but he can sort of be forgiven, recent injury and stuff.
