My first game on rookie i got smashed by the hawks 72 points :eek:
2nd game i beat them by 9 points. :D Alot of fun, getting used to the controls
more now and creating some nice plays.

I really like the menus, the stats on the main menu look really good.
The main thing for me was the game play, and i think Bigant have just
about nailed it :)

So, thankyou Ross and Bigant for a new AFL game. You guys have done
a great job, you can tell how much work has gone into it. :)

I think its average at best, rucking is terrible, gameplay is just get tackled tackle get tackled tackle, goal kicking is boring and it lacks a franchise mode. I give it 2 weeks until I put NBA 2k11 back into the ps3 and AFL Live is either on Ebay or bottom of the draw.

Appreciate the effort Big Ant but I just think AFL is too hard to make a decent game.
 
Would be good if there were more songs to play through the menu's or such, like FIFA has.

Do get tackled alot, so there is alot of ball up's. I seem to do alright at center bounces but boundary throw ins I'm horrible, :p

I also think its an average game at best..

Dont get me wrong i appreciate the effort put into the game but after playing it all afternoon its nothing special and thats what i expected so im not even mad..

For anyone to compare it to fifa has got their head in the sand..
 
Really enjoying it, a lot of fun but some issues are a little annoying, mainly the inability to see stats during or post game.

One thing will probably annoy me unless someone can help clarify it for me, I've tried editing certain players attributes (Ryan Crowley just can't be 86/100) but when I go to play a season the edit attributes are not carried forward, is it even possible?
 
Played my first game (first EVER game, I didn't play it during the playtests) and lost to the Hawks by just 9 points. The final score was 8.3.51 to 10.2.62. I was playing on Rookie with 5 minute quarters. I was pretty pleased with the result considering it was my first ever game. But one thing that's already annoying me is the goal kicking, on both sides.

Firstly, even though I'd never played the game before I didn't miss a set shot. The 3 behinds came from rushed behinds and a missed snap. But with set shots, I slotted all of them with ease from up to 55m out. On the other side is the AI goal kicking. They're also incredibly accurate from anywhere inside the 50, especially with quick snaps and tough angles. Hawthorn were 10 from 10 with shots on goal, the only two behinds being rushed. While it's cheap and annoying, I guess it kind of evens things out with the set shots also being incredibly easy.

Aside from that, a few quick observations/thoughts.

- I actually think the gameplay is too fast. While it's great that it flows and has very little down time, it means that scores are generally going to be unrealisticly high due to the quickness that the ball moves. I'm also finding it hard to use the interchange feature. There's virtually no time for me to use it. I've tried interchanging players during ball ups and such but play is always quickly underway before I can even select a player. I've pretty much just left it to the AI to handle the interchanges.

- Marking is indeed pretty damn hard. Not so much in the timing, but the positioning. The AI has the front position about 8/10 times. The only time I can really rely on marking is when I have a free player, which in itself is another rarity. All my players are manned up tightly whenever I go forward, yet whenever the AI goes forward there's always a good lead option.

- The commentary is pretty bad but not as bad as I thought. A few glitches here and there "Krakouer gets the balll. Krakouer... Krakouer...", but otherwise it's good enough. Though small, I don't like how Commetti calls North Melbourne "Kangaroos". "Today it's Geelong Versus Kangaroos!". Not only is it not our full name, but he doesn't even say "THE Kangaroos". :|

- One funny observation before I go eat dinner. I randomly generated a team in the Footy Factory and the first result was the "Murray Bridge Furries". Something sinister going on at BigAnt HQ me thinks. :p

- Also, where's the instant replay function? I can't seem to see it anywhere. Don't tell me they dropped that as well...
 
i didnt get to play long cos home with the baby on monday, but i enjoyed it. I suck at it, which i like gives me stuff to work on, i felt i sucked more cos of ability and not because of mechanics of the game as well.

I think it can get better over more editions for sure, but its finally an afl game you would want them to keep using a base to develop.

Looking forward to playing against others, think thats where the fun will be.

I dont care if its just because i am easily pleased but its fun game, feels like afl to me and im looking forward to a chance to play again.

I dont know if its because i was expecting woeful commentary after reading here but i didnt find it that bad

I am a bit over the menu songs tho

I would also say seen as the gws logo appears in the nab cup list (just makes swans and gold coast games a sim) would of been cool to be able to make that uniform perhaps?

The ruck looks totally unrealistic and taps hardly ever go to your player, 80% of the time the taps I win go to ground, even when there is a player in the vicinity. Even when the taps go directly to the player he is tackled straight away then another ball up, then a tackle then ball up, I played 5 games and found myself losing interest fast.

I also agree that anyone who compares this game to FIFA needs their head read, not even in the same league. As I said nice try and appreciate it but I dare say nobody will be still playing this game in 6 months time.

I guarantee you that I'm still playing this day after day in 6 months time
 
Issues:
Well even though the manual states you can take customised AFL lists online, It seems you cannot.
The Salary cap for fully custom teams is so ridiculous I can just squeeze in a 2 star team for $7 million.
Ive already finished a season and feel thats all there was to the game and because the customisation is so limited for online play, I can play as Collingwood/Bulldogs whatever or get smashed.

Ross, if you read this, can you let me know the secret button combo I need to press to take my custom AFL team online? Thank you.

Would love an option for 7.5 minute quarters.

I think that would be the perfect balance as i find 5 minutes too short and 10 mins too long.

7.5 would be perfect to get a good representation of AFL scores IMO.

This. 5 minutes isn't enough and 10 is to much, I'm currently playing a match with 3 mins left on 10 minute quarters: All Stars 153 - 79 Victoria.
 
First few games i got beaten pretty easy. Didn't kick a goal until the 3rd game.

Put it on the easiest level and started doing well, won 2 games with collingwood and geelong.

A lot of faults with the game but as another poster said "its afl so ill play it"

Happy with the pace, enjoy the variation of tactics, a huge improvement.

Polished presentation.

Fairly realistic, but the way the ball bounces and a few other things are noticeable. Still a great effort and so far alot of fun.
 
Didn't Ross say that scores would be realistic, no matter what length you have your quarters?

I'm forced to have 10 minute quarter when I don't necessarily want to just to have realistic scores in other games.

Plenty of bugs in this game.
 
Find the opposition come back in the fourth quarter a little too much and a little too well. I can understand wanting it to be a contest, but being overrun game after game gets a bit over the top.

Found goal kicking a bit difficult. I can understand not wanting to make it too easy, but you should havesome idea about kicking it 20mtrs out on a 45 degree angle.

Too dificult to get open at all. Even on amateur.

AI runs around like headless chooks in defense.


Other than that. Looks pretty good.
 
Disappointed. I traded in Black Ops and Crysis 2 for this (and got some other stuff, no way would i trade in 2 games for 1) and it doesnt feel like a worthy purchase, will finish a season, win the cup and it'll be traded in for something else (portal 2 perhaps), maybe my expectations were high but its a letdown even after mastering the controls and scoring big wins, i'm left bored.
 
First impressions after playing for a few hours, and a couple of online matches, i still think the movement of the players are too unnatural, changing directions are way too fast, and it means you can never take players on, as you cant catch them dedicating to a tackle in one direction then change directions to catch them off, as they just instantly change directions and tackle you.

dont like the fact that you cant sell the dummy, i think this goes a bit with the above, you just cant take on players, it really annoys me, yarran should easily get around leigh brown, ruck work is great, hard to win all the time, but i dont like centre clearences, its just a tackle fest, get the ball get tackled, lose the ball tackle, rinse and repeat for a few minutes before some1 finds a free player, the gameplay seems like all you do is hold triangle to tackle.

also not being able outrun someone chasing you down, no matter who you have, juddy, yazza, wojinski, varcoe, garlett, these players should be able to break away like they do in real life, and the interchange system might be a bit buggy, my 2nd online game against the hawks, i had players like carrazzo one on one with franklin, then russell 1 on 1 with roughead, fair to say they we're marking everything

disappointed at the fact that you cant set it to stop auto changing your selected player, its very irritating when your chasing someone down from behind and they get a kick away to a leading player, it then auto changes to your defender who turns around and walks away from the marking contest, cant really seem to find a camera that works well in every situation, i dont think it exists, its just so hard to do, when im in the pocket i can literally see a few meters to the right of me, so i cant kick into that direction at all unless im kicking and hoping.(can use the radar i guess)

as someone else already mentioned, i much rather the opponent kicks a goal than a point, its such a pain trying to hit a target after a kick in, 80% of the time i just turn it over, i'll give it a week or so, if i still find that you cant get around these problems ill probably return it, no disrespect to big ant, i think an AFL game is just too hard to get right
 
I don't feel that the game is boring but after only playing for a few hours, I'm turned off by how many bugs there are. Honestly, I don't really want to keep playing my Carlton season thanks to the Round 5 bug. Surely a patch will be developed ASAP to fix a few things.
